Swami’s NFL futures 2022

2dueces2dueces Posts: 6,231 ✭✭✭✭✭

The Swami is back for another exciting year of futures
To recap 2021 Swami went 3-3 on win totals over/under last year.
But to make up for that mediocre performance Swami hit on the Rams Super Bowl win at 12 to 1
For a tidy profit just the same.
A little early for Super Bowl predictions but witnessing the draft at my favorite casino I have entered a few early wagers.
So let’s get the season rolling. With last year’s winnings I’m taking a big swing at 2 teams. Usually my customary wager is $100 but
NY Jets over 5.5 for $250
Broncos under 10 for $250
Bengals under 10 for $200
Bills over 11.5 for $200

I know this isn’t a popular thread but I’ll update throughout the year.

Stay away from the Matt Corral and the Carolina Panthers Swami, I don't want you to lose money, just stay away!

I like the Swami thread. It's fun to check in later and see how you did.

You know you want to pick the Bills to win the SB right now. Just do it.

The Bengals a two win team the season before won their division and made it to the Super Bowl. But the key was they played a last place schedule. This year a first place schedule including
    Kansas City
    Buffalo
    Tampa Bay
    Tennessee
    Dallas
    New England
    Baltimore twice
    Pittsburgh twice
    Cleveland twice
    Jets
    Saints
    Dolphins
    Atlanta
    Carolina
Best case they go 2-4 against playoff teams. Go 4-2 in the division then they must sweep the bottom halve to get to 11 wins. I think 8-9 is very possible.
The Jets loaded up in the draft, possibly the best this year and an A+ rating. They will win 6 maybe 7 games.

The way that you look at these preseason Swami picks does shed sone light on things and does help us foresee how the season will go. Strength of schedule really is a key factor. Playing a first place vs last place schedule does have an impact. And the over unders of win totals, this far out, are pretty interesting to look at when you are sizing up the team you root for vs other teams.

The 16 game season is so ingrained in me, that when I look at these numbers I am a little off in my brain computational-wise 😂

Edited to add: for example, a ten win season doesn't carry the same meaning that it used to.

Strength of schedule is one way the NFL achieves a certain amount of parity.
Teams must play 6 in division ( obvious ) and rotate opposite conferences every 4 years. The remainder is strength of opponent.
Its the exact reason why a team like the Bengals can go from worst to first.

As far as I know, the addition of the 17th game was made with the full intention of actually making it an 18 game season. Do you foresee this happening sooner rather than later?

Absolutely. No one cares about preseason. The players hate it. No one watches it. The owners lose money on it. A draw back to cutting preseason games is some really good players will fall through the cracks. Another is the wear and tear on veterans. But trust me it will happen sooner than later.

I wish I knew the Cardinals first 6 opponents. DeAndre Hopkins is suspended for those. He missed the last 4 games last year and the team went 1-3.
Hollywood Brown is no where near the threat.
Before the suspension Arizona win total was 9. I highly doubt they reach .500

D.Hop out 6 games. This is how you pick over/under future. BTW, look who has the easiest schedule. The Cowboys have had this for the last few years and have been bounced early.

Cardinals catch a break in first 6 games but I still put $100 on under 10 as they play the 2nd hardest schedule behind only the Rams.

After careful consideration and knowing I will face an incredible backlash from @thisistheshow and an horumph from
@perkdog I added the Patriots for $100 under 8.5. I’ve scoured the schedule and I cannot find more than 6 wins and a tie with the Jets for last in the AFC East. Y’all are my board friends and it’s just wagers.

I don't know enough about the Bengals to make a prediction. Except Burrow is very good, and that the Bengals coaching staff was totally unprepared in the Super Bowl. Don't those guys watch film?, McVay played the Bengals like saps in that game. They fell for it hook line and sinker! Couldn't they see it coming????? But, the Cardinals aren't going anywhere. Third place in the division at best.....I predict last place. Kyler Murray is the most overrated QB in the league. Barring key injuries, the Rams are the team to beat. They were a much better team last year than their won/lost record would indicate.......With the exception of a TERRIBLE performance by Stafford against the Titans and the loss to Green Bay, the Rams could easily have gone 15-2 last season. If Robert Woods comes back healthy, the receiving corps of Woods, Kupp, OBJ, and Tyler Higbee, who is the most underrated TE in the league, will make the Rams unstoppable. I said all last season and I'm sticking with it for this season....... The Rams are the best team in the league, by far.......Sorry guys.......that's just the way it is.

The Key to Super Bowl Repeat...

    Robert Woods.....

Oh, and by the way.......the Rams loss to the Niners in the last game of the season?......The game where everyone was peeing their pants in excitement because SO....SOoo ..many Niner fans were at the game???? That sucker was a setup.......the Rams did not want to play the Packers in the playoffs.....it worked out perfect! Jimmy G. did the heavy lifting against the Pack until Aaron Donald lifted Jimmy up in the 4th quarter of the championship game and threw him on his as* on the way to the Super Bowl.......Sometimes it's not in your best interest to win.....the Niners deserve as much credit for the Ram SB victory as the Rams do......McVay hoodwinked Shanahan ,for once.......THANKS NINERS!

I'm going to ride that bandwagon to the bitter end! You have no idea what's it's been like to be a lifelong Rams fan.......Man,.....the Rams in L.A. have been horrible FOREVER!..... even when they won it was only because the NFC West Division was the worst!......The Rams never stood a chance in the playoffs. Hey, I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.......and they are the best team in the league....... I seem to recall they won the last SB.......If I'm correct, the Rams lost 16 of their last 17 home games in L.A. before they moved to St. Louis.......I was at every one of those games.......The only game they won was against the BROWNS!!!!.....that says it all!!!.........During those 17 games I sat front row in the endzone.......the only highlight?......the cheerleaders were real close!.....Oh, those girls! I've stuck with them when they lose and now I'm on the winning bandwagon!.... Yippeee!!!!......The Rams are the best team in the league!......For now.

P.S. I think the home opener is against the Bills. I can't wait...... I'm A Josh Allen fan...... I think he's the best!

    Go Bills....Go Rams......my two teams!!!!!

I think you are a bit too wishy-washy. Stick with the Rams. You can't have the Bills too. Week 1. The Rams host the Bills. I can't have you coming in here telling me it's a "win win" like @perkdog with his Pats bet. I need you completely fired up for that game. ALL OF US will be watching
Heck, all of the world will be watching. On that Thursday night, Sept 8th, for one night only, even thisistheshow will be a Rams fan. Why? Because they are playing the Bills. And Pats take the Patriots/Bills rivalry very seriously. And I will be extremely disappointed if the Bills win that game. Will you? Will you be disappointed? That first game means nothing. I think it is the SB preview. The two best teams going head to head. I have never left a Ram game disappointed if they lost or real happy because they won.....I don't care......just love the game.......But!.....there is only ONE game that actually angered me.......it was the Ram/Bills during the 2020(?) season. The Rams were down 28-3 halfway into the 3rd. quarter. The Rams came back, like they do, and went up 31-28 with seconds left on the clock......The refs then gave the Bills the game.....horrible call.....as worse as I've ever seen....So,....I think that the Ram/Bills opener is going to be a grudge match. The Rams will be out for revenge......I think it's going to be a Hell of a game! Pick sides?......O.k.,.....I want the Rams to win!.......

Congratulations on the Rams SB win. My question is wouldn’t you rather play the Texans opening day than a team like the Bills to kick off the season?
I like the fact that the Bills are playing 8 prime time games but my own personal feelings are I’d rather they eased into the season than play one of their toughest games first. JMO

I see your point, 2dueces. My thought on the Rams/Bills opener is this; I think the Rams and the Bills were the two best teams in the league last year. If it wasn't for the Bills getting ripped because of stupid OT rules in the Chiefs game, I think they would have gone to the SB. So, I'm looking at the opener as a substitute for my dream SB matchup that didn't happen. And yes, the Rams and the Bills are the two teams I pull for. It's really nice, right now, to be a fan of those two teams. AND.......I really like that Josh Allen. I really don't care who wins the game because both teams will probably end up in the playoffs either way. Great game to start things off! I think it's going to be a good one!

my little hydrantette babysitting rates just took another leap. maybe like $25/hour now. and a patti pie in the freezer.

in all seriousness though, if the 2021 NFL season had been halted at the 1/2 mark, who would have won the MVP award? Murray would have. they whipped both NFC Championship teams a combined 3 times in the first 9 weeks. but unfortunately for him and the Cardinals, 1/2 a season does not make. for the past two there has been a serious disconnect between the level of play in Sept-Oct and that of Nov and beyond. start very fast out of the gates, crawl to the finish line.

personally, i think the coach sucks. Kingsbury's teams have a track record of being doormats the latter part of just about every season since he has been a head coach, dating all the way back to his days at Texas Tech. i don't know what that tells you, but it tells me that he possesses a complete inability to make necessary adjustments when required. when faced with adversity (e.g. suspensions or injuries) i don't think he has any clue, and his current team has often had that look out on the field.

well, this season is going to be unlike the previous two. there will not be a fast start unless he shows his true worth as a head coach. no Nuk for the first 6 weeks and a very rough schedule. i honestly think the first game of the season against the Chiefs is going to set the tone for the entire 2022 season. if the Cardinals get rolled up, it will be a long one and Kingsbury will be (or at least should be) gone. if they take care of Mahomes & Co. without one of their key cogs, it'll give them the confidence needed to weather the storm until week 7 arrives. then hopefully it sustains them through week 18.

honestly, i don't have a prediction for the Cardinals. i've molested my quasi-swami crystal ball and i've got nothin. last year i did........and had a winning ticket in my possession by November. and no, i'm not giving Kyler a pass if things go awry this season. he has a lot to prove to me as well. speaking of manifesting your true worth, he also has that opportunity weeks 1-6. his bank account is swollen, and now it's time for him to produce.

I don't disagree with anything you say , Galixico, maybe I'm too hard on Murray, but I just don't see the greatness there. I guess it's over my head........And as far as babysitting the Hydrantettes™?......$25/hour is a good deal... for me. You sell yourself way too cheap...... And the Patti pie clause?.....You'll have to bring your own snacks and hide them really, really good......I haven't figured out where that would be.....maybe you'll have better luck. The goodies disappear fast around here .....REAL FAST! 🍦🍧🍨

Here in Dallas/Fort Worth, I've been aware of Murray's career for a long time due to his connection to a local radio station. Read this article.

    https://www.oklahoman.com/story/sports/college/sooners/2018/12/07/ou-football-how-a-talk-radio-sow-helped-boost-kyler-murrays-football-career/60484456007/

So they would talk about him on the show. Talk about how he had succeeded at every level, and to probably not bet against him becoming a great pro.

So I have not been adamant, like some others, that he is overrated. He is more than a running quarterback. He has great accuracy. His frame should keep him healthy. I know he has been injured, but he is not fragile.

But some of his qualities are the antithesis, in my opinion, of what you want in a quarterback. He acted passive aggressively with his social media cleansing move. He's on the record as saying he doesn't rely on film work. And I don't know if he is the leader that an NFl elite QB needs to be.

That being said, I still believe that he will have a great career.

I’m not sold on Murray the same way I wasn’t sold on Lamar Jackson. Seems Baltimore isn’t sold on him either.
If Baltimore wants to continue down the path of being a running team the blueprint is draft a running QB every 4 years and pay the rookie salary and spent the $30-40M elsewhere

ok so i just checked the O/Us for the first time and my eyeballs almost shattered my monitor when they shot out of their sockets

incredulously, they set the Bears number @ 6.5

there is no such thing as easy money when gambling, but this is about as close as you'll ever get. trust me when i say Chicago has a very realistic chance of being the worst team in the entire league this season. offseason fire sale. o-line is going to be an absolute sieve. Fields' collection of "skill" players to play pitch-n-catch with is utterly contemptible

please duck that figure and win yourself some clams..........i'm going to

Some have predicted they will end up dead last. It will take the Bears 2-4 years to recover from the Nagy dumpster fire.
On a side note Nick Wright predicted the Bears will win 11 games. 😳

I’m pretty sure you’re safe. Nick also said Josh Allen was a bust. 😳 That was before he was doused in ketchup and mustard

I'd take the under, if the o/u was 1.5, on the number of times a group of NFL skill players has been described as contemptible.

it was a toss-up between that or odious

edit: i'll stick odious in my hip pocket just in case Eberflus starts to coach like Nagy

I always loved language. But my mind is a sieve. So regardless of the number, take the over when betting on the number of times I've had to look up a word while reading one of your posts. Contemptible I know, and odious I feel as though I know, particularly in context, but I've had a few I didn't. Lol my mind is not what it once was.

i didn't exactly use that word in the proper context, but when the top 3 wideouts on your favorite team's depth chart are darnell mooney, byron pringle and velus jones, then hopefully it's understandable how i could possess a tinge of unfounded hatred :D
