Will the American Woman Quarters Series attract any interest?

Starting this year the US Mint will issue five different coins in the American Woman Quarters program each year through 2025. Do you think this series will generate much collector interest?

The designs for the first year actually appear to be well done.

Am I correct in assuming these will be regular circulation quarters and not just "made for collector" issues?

The gimmicky commemorative quarter, nickel, dollar, and cent programs were interesting for maybe the first year or two. Now, who cares?

The 50SQ grabbed a lot of attention because it was new and because the mint put a tremendous amount of effort into education.

Subsequent series w/o the education... not so much.

Shame, it wouldn't be that hard to do a one-pager on each National Park or Notable Woman.

And of course, research today consists of plagiarizing Wikipedia....

I'm more interested in the fact that there will be a new profile of Washington facing right on the obverse. What would be great is if the Mint had the new profile of Washington facing right on the obverse, and on the reverse have the Washington Crossing the Delaware that is now on the 2021 quarter.

They’ll have some name recognition with some. Interest will probably be on par with the presidential dollars.

I agree. The "Crossing the Delaware" obverse is a welcomed change nonetheless.

Sally Ride will probably generate some interest among the space fans. For Anna May Wong, while the coin has an interesting design, she has mostly been forgotten. Her movies are never shown anymore.

I have no interest in these. the new obv is an awful looking design imo, and I really do not understand how the mint decided on the first five women to put on the coins. I knew something about two of the women and sorta remember one of the others. But the other two I had never heard of and had to look them up. If I remember correctly when I did a search of famous women in the US the only one of the first five to show up was Sally Ride. It seems to me that if the Mint wanted to create some "buzz" with this series they would have started with some more well known women. I doubt that very many young people will have any idea of who any of these five are and will not be inspired by this series.

Unlike prezzies these are made for spending. They are the mint's replacement for worn out quarters. Whether you like them or not they will be your new pocket change.

When I think of coins where the primary feature is a particular personality that personality has to be very prominence to be placed on a coin. Franklin, Washington, Lincoln, Kennedy, Eisenhower and Roosevelt were extremely prominent individuals whose lives greatly impacted the nation. Kennedy might be an exception given his short term as President but the assassination is probably what pushed him over the top. Even with the dumbing down of history most Americans will know who these individuals are and their impact on history. I seriously doubt a majority of the population know who any of these women are and I don't think anyone can seriously claim they had any where near the impact on U.S. history that the individuals mention above had.

I hope so. Expanding the subject matter covered by coins may expand the number and types of people that are interested in coins.

I admit to having Washington quarters fatigue, after more than one series. The very obscurity of some of the subjects will work against them, but a silver lining is that it might inspire some like myself to research who each of them were. When I was growing up, the Postal Service did this a lot, released stamps with people I had never heard of, but then became familiar with.

As for going back to a classics design, it's been done. And done. And done. And done....

There will certainly be coins of interest, and perhaps it will bring in some female collectors. I will not be doing the series, but likely will get some of special interest. Cheers, RickO

I agree with some others and I'm also getting burnt out from the special reverse quarters, dollars, etc. There are so many that I don't consider them special and rarely give them an extra look when I receive them in change. With the exception of West Point quarters (which they discontinued), I think the mint jumped the shark years ago on circulating quarters.

I'll like collecting them from circulation. I also found it interesting and appropriate that the obverse was originally designed by Laura Gardin Fraser, James Earle Fraser's wife.

I do wish the Mint had used Theodore Roosevelt for the obverse of the ATB series, but that train left the station a long time ago.

It's hard to say how much interest they will generate, but the designs look decent plus Washington gets to face the same direction as Lincoln!

There are assumptions here about "not knowing who these people are" or "less impact on history". Lots of sharks jumped there, sheesh...

I think it will appeal to women to start collecting. I don't see it being anywhere near the hype of when the state quarter program was announced years ago.

These are available in silver but the price remains to be seen. They are offering all 5 in quarters only sets both clad and silver 👍🏼

I saw "remove from cart" 3 minutes in.

When it first popped I looked at the page source and availablecount was at 7531. Even now with unavailable I look and it still shows 7531. Not sure what to think of the reliability of this page data.

The series is problematic. Sure, you might get a few more female collectors but the cost to operate versus the profits to be made will be negligible. On top of that, without knowing in advance who will appear on the quarters means there won't be any dedicated folders or albums for a few years, compare that to the States, the Parks, and the Presidents, all of which had a known topic and order of issue.

I agree the "W" quarters should be picked up again. The low mintage circulation drop would inspire the hunt and the yet-to-be-informed could see the "W" as standing for "women" similar to how some see "S" being for silver.

I had gone from no interest to indecision. Last week because of the fact that the loyalty program free shipping hadn't kicked in for the year (and enrollments are free shipping and count toward the loyalty program), FOMO especially if the USM does produce W quarters (I would want these as well) and the thought that they may go quickly (I've missed a coupke of AI dollars) I signed up for the 3 roll enrollment. Happy camper today.

I really like the Maya Angelou as I respect her a lot, and the rendition is fine (for a coin). The rolls of "S" minted quarters may be of interest at least in passing for the hard crew here....
