Nope. Still looking for just the right type 1 FH standing liberty quarter. There's only one "prime focal area" for me. The last one I saw on ebay looked like she got halfway through a lumpectomy and they stopped. I'm going to have nightmares tonight...
This will probably sound dumb to everyone on here, but I really want the Lincoln Professional Life Commemorative penny. I have been searching every penny I get for what feels like an eternity, and I still haven’t found that one to complete my set. I don’t want to buy it, though. At this point, I want to find it, as weird as that may seem. 🤷♀️
I got one of my two “target” coins this year. There still a chance on the second one. We’ll see.
Here's the one I found. For as ridiculously common as trade dollars really are, I had a much tougher-than-expected time of finding one that I really liked at a grade/price that was acceptable to me. This one came via Gerry Fortin. I wasn't aware until it showed up that it lives in an OGH. Bonus!

Got the second most expensive coin I ever bought this year from Sarasota Rare Coin a 1857-S $20 Central America. Most expensive was a PCGS MS62 1889-CC $ over 30 years ago.
This one may not be the ultimate coin of the year, but close to it, and it was one that I had my eye on for most of the year.
I'd like to see the pics of that $20 Jim. It's gotta be beautiful!
Yes, one. I've posted it in a couple of other threads. I tried to buy one other coin, of a different type, but was outbid. I'm very pleased with the one I did buy -- it's a really nice add to my collection.
I did - but overpaid and it came back cleaned ... would have rather lost the auction!!

I thought I did. I bought an example of a coin that I have been chasing. Paid up for it. But I was a little less than thrilled when I got it in hand. Decided to return it and the dealer wasn’t happy. He offered me a partial refund to get me to keep it which confirmed for me why I was returning it.
Still on the hunt. Which may be the more fun part anyway.
While I have gotten several new things I have still not found the one I want. Very grateful to forum members pointing me towards Landis ,d.Carr and Grove mint. Oh ya Intaglio. And very grateful to those who helped guide me through some coin situations that saved me quite a bit 😉

One coin I wanted to get was a Saint Gauden’s Double Eagle. I wanted a nice example but didn't want to go crazy pricing. When I say "nice" it didn't have to be MS (you can find some real dogs in 63 and under) but something with a decent amount of luster and not banged up. After some patient searching I found a 1915-S NGC in AU-53 CAC. It has some wear and chatter but no major dings, spots or other distracting marks and it didn't break the bank.

O.105a, R4. Ex-Jason Carter, Brian Greer, Dave Kahn, Keith Davignon, Chuck Link.
A scarce and intriguing die marriage. Both dies are in their second use. The obverse was earlier used for the punctuated date, O.103 and the reverse is that of the R.6 1817 O.104. On the O.105a Liberty’s portrait appears mushy while the dentils are usually distinct. Both dies feature notable die breaks.
The prime 1817 O.105, without obverse die breaks, is a great rarity – probably R7.
This AU58 is the highest graded by PCGS.

Wanted to find an upgrade for my 1814/3 bust half PCGS AU55 for several years. I found this nicely toned, and well struck, PCGS AU55 on a dealer’s website shortly before the summer ANA. Decided to send it in for regrade at the show and was very happy it upgraded to 58 since 1814 is my favorite year.

No. I really wanted to acquire a 1797 half dime with 13 stars, but the one chance I had got bid out of my budget.
No. Had two opportunity but was the underbidder both times.
Not exciting to look at, but this date in true AU had my set stopped for many years. Pop reports show it’s one of the scarcer coins in the series, but flies under the radar compared to the more ‘common’ 19D, 17S obv, 21P, and 23S walkers. Assuming CoinFacts is accurate, the last one auctioned in this grade was four years ago.
A fortuitous opportunity via a metal detector find by a forum member allowed me to acquire it.
A 21P is more common?? Not where I live ...
I don't care if you live on the moon, mr. grapes, - look at the pop reports in AU....and then compare the price guide values. The 20D is scarcer than the 21P, and valued at ~half. And few seem to realize it, hence my comment about it flying under the radar....now if you're talking about searching melt buckets and binder pages for low grade coins, Ok - you got me! I'm sure by the sheer mintage the 20D is more common in low grade. But I'm talking about true AU coins.

I wasn't sure if I would be able to pull this one off. Looked for a suitable host coin at 3 coins shows and came up blank. I was finally able to make it happen and am really happy with the result.

I picked up several that I wanted this year--in fact, more than I probably should have. But, no, I did not find an 1827
O-137, 148, or 149 that I could cherry which is the only way I could have bought one.
I did manage to buy this one--my last purchase of the year (unless one of the above cherry targets should show up).

No. My goal was to buy quality over quantity in 2021. I made it to February and lost the will. Maybe 2022.
My goal was to buy a draped bust type coin at the ANA show in August but no luck there. I bought this quarter a few weeks back for a very good price in my opinion.

I bought items that were on my list as they came along. I would love to buy a California Gold $50 slug some day, but that's not going to happen. I know what It like, and it's not even Mint State, but I've only seen two pieces that I liked in 10 years.
When it comes to my British and Roman collections, I have a list of kings, queens and emperors that I need, plus I buy pieces I like, if I run into them. Here are a couple of examples.
Edward VI shilling (ruled 1547 to 1553) - This was Henry VIII's very bright but sickly son.
Claudius AS (ruled 41 to 54 AD). He probably had some brain damage which made him "socially uncouth, but there was sharp mind below the surface.

This year has been bitter sweet in many ways.
Lost quite a few relatives and one of them was my maternal uncle with whom I was very close and was like the son he never had.
Aunt has alzheimers and after numerous trips back and forth to the big apple, helped her to settle his estate and relocate. Someone apparently told her that I liked this particular coin and she gifted me the same.
