Decided to rebuild my Liberty Nickel set. Here is the first new addition!

erwindocerwindoc Posts: 5,354 ✭✭✭✭✭

A couple of years ago, I sold off my set so I could change gears with collecting. However, I knew I wanted to rebuild it one day, so I kept the key dates. Been kicking tires for a while now, but this one spoke to me as it has a great strike, smooth cheek and attractive toning too! I welcome your comments to the first addition on my way to rebuilding it.

That's a great looking coin! If they could be found like that with any frequency I would imagine the series would be much more popular.

Nice coin. Which keys did you keep and in what grades?

Do you have photos of your key keepers? Would love to see them.

Jason, this is a beauty. Super color too.

I’ve considered assembling a set for years, but I’ve somehow fought the urge. I’d love an MS set with this kind of look.

I have an old Liberty nickel out of print reference on V nickels that date shows a proof with a repunched date ,but this one isnt listed. Is it a new RPD?

a well struck Liberty Nickel is a thing of beauty!! Evan Gale used to have quite a number of the, I remember trying to make a purchase from him at the Pittsburgh ANA around 2005 or so. he never seemed to be at his table so the deal never took place and I sort of let the Set fade away.

to that end, you never really "sold off" your set, that was probably a smart move on your part. B)

The 1898 has nice color, is fully struck, and has clean surfaces, except for that color break dot between stars 10 and 11, which I don't think is material, but I should mention. Getting coins in this series with nice color is difficult.

Have no idea of the coin's grade, because it would depend on its eye appeal, which I can't tell from the pic. Years ago, an attractive, mark free coin with even satin luster often got into an MS 66 holder without a problem. I have some of them.
