What happened to you at the ANA?

Anybody else got a story to tell or a NEWP to show?
If so, please post it here!

Waiting for Charmy's post.
I had a dream that I bought a Gobrecht at the ANA. Does that count?

I live fairly close to Chicago but the weather here was too nice on Thurs and Friday to spend it inside a coin show. Instead I spent the time working on my sawmill with my son.

Keeping it coin related I did buy a gobrecht this week and it is a dream coin
Absolutely!
I had a dream I won half the Tyrant collection in a Poker game.
That was a much better use of time!
I have never been a fan of that myself.
I don’t care to see what any dealer had for dinner or what their airplane looked like.
To each his own.

I did not attend the ANA, however, I am enjoying the show reports by those who did attend. @fishteeth... Nice work with that sawmill... I like those two pieces with the grain formation. Cheers, RickO

Oh, I had a great time at the ANA - met lots of old friends I haven't seen in a year and a half - drained my checkbook buying cool stuff - flights were the best kind (uneventful) - I'll leave it at that. Nothing for anyone to criticize.

I actually did go to an ANA in Atlanta years ago to buy a Golbrecht Dollar and bought one. It was back in the pre-slab days so in a way you were on your own as a collector-buyer.
Here's the coin, die alignment IV restrike. It eventually went into an NGC PR-58 holder. I sold it when I got an upgrade to an original 1836 strike in a higher grade.

Tell that to my checkbook and explain it to my wife.

There is just something about wood that stimulates my mind.
What can I make out of these?
Nice coin.

Kennedys are my quest...
Don’t take any wooden nickels!
the bookended slab will be a table, but will take about 2 years for the slab to dry correctly.
this log was the 30 ft up the tree .the first 2 logs from the tree were 40inch diameter and too big for my mill. I can only take 32 inch (although have gotten a few 35 inch through with some chainsawing). the other logs from this tree were cut into sections for gun stocks by a gunsmith. problem is will take about 5 years for them to fully dry.
Have hundreds of other trees cherry, walnut, oak etc to cut up over the next few years. have an old barn to let them sit in for a few years and then hopefully start my next hobby woodworking.
I'll save you time. 3-4 pics of actual coins buried among 50 pics of travel, food, wine, bar, casino, and the same few dealers she shoots at every other show...

Bill. What dreams are made of! I like that coin! Beyond grade, what made you decide this one had to go? Edit: oops I see it was a restrike. I understand now.

That’s what I’ve said for years.
Brutal.
Brutal......................and yet spot on honest.
packing, leaving for the airport, leaving the city, in the air, arriving at the destination, picking up luggage, getting a cab, arrive at hotel, view from window, arrive at show, see Bill, see Bob, see John, see Joe, etc. etc. etc., go to dinner, (hey look, a coin), leave show, leave hotel, arrive at airport, leave airport, more pics in air, arrive home, greet cat..................................
@fishteeth
I really admire the natural look of George Nakashima furniture... in looking at what you have pictured, there are possibilities to create a compelling look.

Did anyone else see the original pack of $1000 notes?
Way out there cool!

Yes. Very cool!
Totally disagree. I love her reports. She posts TONS of coins and PEOPLE and EVENTS and DISPLAYS that I would never see elsewhere. Nothing wrong with adding a little of the human element. Makes me feel like I was actually there.

This is the last thing I photographed at the show. The buyer's girlfriend bird dogged it for him.

Walked the entire bourse floor and perused each dealer's inventory. Admired the Tyrant collection from a far. Admired the Tyrant collection up close. Decided to give up collecting because I will likely never be able to achieve anything close to the quality of the Tyrant collection. Participated in the Heritage auction lot viewing for the first time. Found something cool in lot viewing that's within budget. Decided to resume collecting. Auction results TBD.
I started this thread, so I can comment.
I agree with Keets. The reports are travelogues. While there may be “Tons of coins “ shown, they are in very few photos.
In every report of hers I have ever seen, for every photo of coins, there are a dozen or more photos of dinner plates, wine glass, and airplanes.
It is ok to like them or not, but call them what they are : travelogues. The coins are incidental to her story.
Now, back to the show!
What did you see or buy at the ANA?

That locket /case/whatever it is is cool!
I spent too much and ate too much pizza. So it was A great time! 😆
BHNC #248 … 130 and counting.
I spent too much and met so many people I am still trying to remember everyone and everything. Great time overall. Slowly putting up my NEWP's on the "Show us your Bust Coinage" thread.

That Gobrecht dollar is easily one of the nicest and most original looking circulated examples of any grade that I've seen. Congratulations and enjoy.

Fishteeth, I love your new Gobrecht dollar!
Although I didn't see every table, I didn't find anything to buy. I was looking for Standing Liberty quarters, I am missing 5 from the set. I did bring stuff to sell and was successful, I was happy with my sales.
The best part of the show was seeing people I hadn't seen in a year and a half or more!

These are what came home with me when I attended on Wednesday.
I spent most of the morning on treasure trivia and got these 2 sample slabs along with a bunch of other interesting coins that the dealers gave out. The dime in the PCGS sample actually has some pretty obvious feeder finger scrapes on both sides of the coins plus Roosevelt's hair is full of die cracks.
The $2.5 gold piece is actually my dad's coin which he upgraded his 1928 in a 62 to a very nice one in a 63. He was all over the show looking for nice ones to acquire or to upgrade his 62's to 63's. This one is the only one he came home with.
My only pickup was an 1834 small size capped bust quarter. I found it off to the side reverse facing up in the case and with a bunch of junk cleaned seated quarters. I got a decent deal on it and it's a nice original piece.
I did go back on Saturday to see if I could find anything else but I ended up just taking a lap around the floor and one more look at the Tyrant collection before leaving. Overall, I had a very fun time at the ANA looking and holding some very impressive coins.

Love that bust quarter!
True. Although, we didn't attend; our getting the virus was right between the two dates. ( that's for a moderator). I don't think you really care, Perry.
