I was not being sarcastic either, just poorly worded perhaps. Better said would be "Ouch. I hate when they do that. They should at least let you respond (give it a day or so??!) before they cancel the sale.
My apologies.
I just re-read your post. It was clear enough. I just misinterpreted it.
Somehow I was fortunate to be “in” today.....I was able to order the four coin set and a tenth ouncer. I was also “in” and able to order a one ounce as well but passed and opted for the four coin set.
Undecided if I will send them in for grading or sell them.

You better 💩 or get off the pot. If you don’t lock in a sell deal now the buyers will fill up. Probably not an option if you have a back ordered order and not a processing order.
That was a first for me, I got up this morning to try any get the one ouncer, could not believe I saw it pop up. Added to my bag and done. The four coin popped up for back order, but I'm settling on a 1/10th, 1/2 on back order and a 1 ounce.
There are 35 years worth of type 1 and only 15,875 Type 2 1oz's
Until next year... and the year after.
I think he meant that mintage number for 2021.
And I quote "There are 35 years worth of type 1..."
If that is just poor wording, then I will add that the 2021 mintage number is not exceedingly small for gold proof eagles. In recent years, they have been minting less than 10,000 per year of the one ounce and less than 20,000 of the tenth ounce. In fact, the Type 1 for this year are about the same mintages and have already dropped to below the Type 2 issue price.
As of this writing, the total sales of 2019 proof eagles are:
1 ounce - 5872
4 coin set - 8823
The total sales of 2020 proof eagles are:
1 ounce - 5784
4 coin set - 11281 (still for sale on the website)
half ounce - 2446
quarter ounce - 4232
tenth ounce - 12466
The 2021 mintages are in line with the prior few years. In fact, they seem to have based the mintage numbers on the prior years sales.

What is this backorder nonsense? Was the Mint unsure if they would sell their product limit?
They've had production issues. The Morgans are all on backorder until October. They haven't shipped any. pre-sale
Apples and oranges. Morgans were a presale.
It's not apples and oranges. It's only apples and oranges because you are assuming they intentionally underproduced the gold proofs as opposed to simply being unable to get the full production run. They are having real production issues. They were delays in shipping of the silver eagles also and some of those are on backorder as well.
They set the release dates in advance. If they are behind on production, they don't have the full run available at release. It's happened before. It'll happen again. It's happening a lot more this year.

Personally, I appreciate that all four of my 2021 silver proofs fit into a smaller box from the Mint given that they will probably stay in that smaller box for quite a while.

"Pre-sale" is just "backorder" on the entire run.

Maybe.
what if they do a different design next year, or the year after that ?
Maybe not too likely but possible. In any case I don't see them waiting 35 years to redesign it again.
Half ounce shipped with USPS First Class Mail!
That is not the plan. The plan is for the Type 2 to be the annual release going forward.
I had a 1/2 ounce ship as well
Hoping we don't get the same crappy packaging that they used for the silver proofs...
You can see in the pictures it’s exactly the same packaging. That’s their new style.
Yesterdays order has shipped as well, come to poppa.....
i would be happy with no packaging at all, as long as the coin in the capsule is protected and in good shape.

Good point. After reading this, not exactly a truthful description. Wouldn't call a plastic tray a "presentation case". . .
"To complement this new coin design, the coin is encapsulated and placed in a black presentation case with the United States Mint seal on the lid."
for a $5K+ 4-Coin Gold Set, they really cheaped out on the presentation... imho
By law the United States Mint can Not change designs on the American Gold Eagle for a minimum of 25 years.
