I really enjoy the coins you post, but I think you may have gotten the wrong idea with the led lamps that were recommended in another thread. Split those lamps apart and tilt the slab a bit so they light the coin without being in the picture and the result will improve.
It’s great to see all the comments , a true honor to own this coin.
Looking back 20 years ago I never thought I would see the day could own one. I remember a conversation with an older collector about 15 years ago while I was collecting merc. dimes and wheat pennies. He would show me really nice coins when I would see him at local shows. He said don’t worry you’ll be there someday.
My suggestion is learn as much as you can , surrounded yourself with collectors that have your best interest in mind. Build relationships with reputable dealers that can assist you.
Leave meat on the bone for the dealers that I work with. If it’s a one way street good pieces will pass you by. Especially with me, one way = nothing from me. Some people are just money driven and are to blind to see that! That’s a must in my book.
It was manageable by selling off a few good pieces to close friends and dealers. Also with the help an advice from a few friends and dealers.
Hope this helps someone
Thanks again to all that helped me land her.
You have a BD-5 variety, 5th of the 8 Small Star varieties issued. Dannreuther lists it as an R-6 (22 - 30 known), about 5th scarcest of the 10 varieties from 1799.
Congratulations as that's a very nice example even at current AU58 standards... Now you need to research what $10 could purchase in 1799 which will make it even more meaningful knowing it's then value having been set aside from circulation.

Great looking coin
Congrats on adding such a sweet piece. Definitely stands tall compared to most $10 bust gold coins out there.
Fantastic look. Not many with this sort of look made it through the last few decades.
All around exceptional. Wonderful color and fantastic surfaces. Worthy of your collection.
I love 18th century gold, just wish I could afford it. Very nice example.
