As a type collector, this was the last early design that I did not have, the small eagle that appears on the reverse of the early U.S. gold coins. I located this one at the bourse at a Baltimore coin show.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. This one, because it is just so weird looking, it's a bit of a rarer date in CAM, and it's a Col. Green coin....who was a real freak. It's a freaky coin all around, and it puts a smile on my face.

First year issue 1824 Upright Eagle 8 Reales from Mexico NGC EF-45 it is much rarer that the Hookneck version that sells for more money. I doubt there are more than 50 to 100 in existence of the Upright type but I could be wrong.
