1829/7 MS65 with CAC. Just another example of how CAC will sticker coins that have been GENTLY dipped, even silver that's almost 200 years old. Will @ricko apply his Blast White sticker to accompany the CAC?
A day without fine wine and working on your coin collection is like a day without sunshine!!!
With the introduction of steam presses and the reducing lathe the Mint was able to place all features on the working hubs (except the date) and ramp up production more quickly. Except for the date, all dies were identical. The era of quirky, hand-punched and engraved half dollar varieties had come to an end. Technology marched on.
Chief Engraver Christian Gobrecht reworked the design for improved metal flow and the new presses. Minting did not begin until very late in the year and a small run of coins were pressed from a single die pair. For many years it was reported that this run was limited to 1200 pieces. However recent studies suggest a more correct mintage of 15-20,000 coins. The survival number today is between 500-1000.
Their release into circulation was unexpected as the coin's revised design and size had not been approved by Congress. The 1836 reeded edge was considered a pattern by many. However, Congress enacted the new law in early 1837. And as these pieces met the requirements they were released into circulation.
MS64+ (pop only 1, 6 finer) with CAC, despite the bugger flying out of Liberty’s nose, lol.
I guess “that demonstrates originality”, as sellers like to say, when the buyer points out distractions.
@Smudge much as I like your gold run, please be aware that I requested on the previous page that after 1850 nobody post more than one coin a day (as I'm sure there are many people who could basically complete large chunks of the 1850 - 1899 run by themselves)... so your gold run previous to 1850 was fine, but after 1850 was too much. Having said that, nice coins.
@Fred , @Eldorado9 has clearly abused the rules of the thread, which were restated just two posts above his first post. His only coin of the day is 1856. @koynekwest was correct in posting 1857. Given that, Fred, feel free to post another 1857. Then we move on to 1858, which I could do with multiple high grade Types, but given that I've already posted one coin today I am not going to.
@MWallace. 1862 as per my above post is out of line. We are looking either for @Fred to have a chance to post his 1857 or ANYBODY else who has NOT posted today can step in with an 1858, and then we'd progress in the normal way... 1859, 1860, 1861 and then 1862.

I posted my 1857 25c in spite of the multiple postings above. Why don't you post yours anyway? I agree with you about these multiple coin postings being BS. Multiple postings of a single dated coin are OK IMO.

Whaaaaaaat? Looks like an 1861 before my post.
Eldorado9 was not following the rules of the thread. Look in the post just above the 1855 and you will see the rules of the thread clearly restated that ONLY one coin per poster per day.

I don't know what you're talking about. My coin is the ONLY coin I posted in this thread. Sorry I broke "THE RULES". My 1862 came after an 1861. I don't appreciate being called out in public. I'll say no more. You can have the last word if you wish.

I was unaware of the one coin a day rule, which I will observe.
Rules are starting to awaken the sleeping Libertarian in me. That's a really nice 1862 cent, BTW - especially for an MS63.
