Not too crusty for me ... it might be dark and deep crust, but that one has a wholesome look in my book. Nice even wear, not to many hits or scrapes, that CircCam look, with almost a halo effect on the fade.
Yours or are you considering? Mid VF?

Just trying to find the right DBH type coin for me within my budget. This is graded by PCGS as VF20. I'm just on the fence whether this is just a little too dark for me. I keep coming back to it because it does have that CircCam look I love.

Love how the high points are lighter , very nice.Just buy the coin, if you find one you like better you can always upgrade and sell it on the forum.

That look is okay by me. It sure beats an example in the same circulated grade, VF, that is bright white.

If it is questionable whether it satisfies what you want now, it will likely always be "just a bit short of what I'd like". I'd keep up the quest for what looks the right one.

I personally like it. It's difficult to find these early type coins that are just right for your tastes. There are so many factors to consider especially with the strike. This coin is well balanced with full rims. While not the strongest strike the reverse stars are all there and most of the motto.

Looks good. In hand, it might look different than the image and could have some iridescent colors in the dark areas. The image is not that great and make sure the seller has a return policy in case there are hidden issues.
1807 T-2/O.109 has weakly struck centers, this is an earlier die stage before the obverse die shattered.

The full rims, and all stars present on the reverse along with the dark fields and light devices make the eye appeal for me. My only concern is whether it's just too dark, but I'll see how it looks in hand. I highly doubt I'll be returning this coin.

I wonder if this is because we have advanced in our preservation techniques over the last century to a point that we don't accept the darker coins as reasonable as we move into the 20th Century designs. I see may mid-range (F, VF, EF) coins that may have been soap and watered (or whatever) to keep them from getting too dark, but the look seems much more acceptable on 20th century vs 18th and 19th Century designs.
While I tend to agree it would be a shock to see groups of Walkers toned like this, if there was, I am not sure they wouldn't get an appreciation.
