A real, live coin show is coming Saturday June 6!!!

erwindocerwindoc Posts: 5,286 ✭✭✭✭✭

Just got the email that they are having the monthly coin show in Knoxville, TN this month. Its typically a small monthly show, but as far as I know its the first one since the pandemic has brought everything to a halt! Hopefully, the Mrs. will be willing to let me go for a bit!

The monthly Greater Atlanta Coin Show was cancelled in April and May but so far the June show is scheduled for June 14 assuming nothing comes that would cause it to be cancelled.

In our area the number of total
Covid cases recorded since March accounts for 0.01% of the population. Active cases are around 0.003%.

My guess is they will restrict how many people are in the area at any time.

Remember to gargle with acetone before and after the show, you'll be fine. (of course I'm kidding - before I get a crazy response)

Not sure yet. The numbers in Georgia since they opened up look good so far. Lots of restaurant dining rooms open; Home Depot. Lowes, Sam's, COSTCO etc. all look busier than this show, never mind Cobb & Cherokee parks and trails.

I'm not looking for anything in particular at the moment but I do enjoy a short visit with several of the dealers there, including you. So..... maybe I'll stop by.

Bring disposable gloves? Just a thought for an extra layer of protection. Good luck to the attendees.

Given the density of people in grocery stores and Lowes....

If there's no pandemic bounce in Atlanta that might give me confidence that this thing is on the way out. Is the show actually in Atlanta?

Nice to hear that the show went on okay. All shows around me are still a no go, but hopefully in July they will start up. I have had the jitters for the last couple months since there have been no shows to go to.

I was leary of the coverage at first. But after speaking with the reporter, he had no ill intent toward our gathering.

Hopefully nobody passing through had the Covid. If so looks like quite a few will be dealing with it soon. Mostly high risk crowd too. SMH.

It’s all about where people are and what the current situation is. As of yesterday, Knox County has seen a total of 494 cases out of 500,000 people, 5 deaths, and 393 recoveries with 3 currently hospitalized. 10s of thousands of tests already done at this point.

Absolutely people shouldn’t attend a show if they are high risk or simply want to minimize their exposure. Makes perfect sense. The county health department and state health department both strongly encourage people who fall into those categories to take extra precautions.

At the end, though, this is a small show and it’s not like 10s of thousands are walking through the doors.

A coin show on June 6 and no masks are required. Great idea, you all go first.

  • tommy44tommy44 Posts: 2,319 ✭✭✭✭✭

Rob, thanks for the report it was very informative and interesting.

So far numbers in GA are looking good. Voted this morning and no masks required. WHO says asystematic spread is very rare (which probably translates to it doesn't happen). If you feel sick stay home, that goes for COVID-19 or any other contagious disease. If you feel uncomfortable going out in public stay home. If you feel you may put others at risk stay home. If you feel others may put you at risk stay home.

If you don't feel uncomfortable buying a bag of flour or a can of beans at your local market that who knows how many other customers have handled or buying a tomato plant at Home Depot that has more people in the store than have ever been there since it opened go ahead and have fun at a small local coin show, otherwise stay home.

If you don't feel uncomfortable going through the drive-thru and picking up to-go prepared by someone you can't even see or getting a Door-Dash delivery from some guy you've never seen before and hope you never see again that was out partying last night go ahead and have fun at a small local coin show, otherwise stay home.

It's a free country, or at least it was the last time I checked. Go or don't go, your choice.

I think I just may have talked myself into stopping by at the Atlanta show.

I think everyone would agree that anyone who is concerned, at high risk, or have other factors should take extra precautions. Of course, now this thread is deviating from the original purpose. Perhaps let the thread go quietly lest it devolve like the other threads do. For my part, I’ll end my participation here.
