A real, live coin show is coming Saturday June 6!!!

Show report. I put the Knoxville show on each month. I thought long and hard about having the show. My thoughts on it are we need to have our lives back. We need to use common sense when interacting with others in public. We also need to realize each region of the country is different and should use common sense accordingly.
Mask and gloves were optional for dealers and public (we live in a free country)! I did strongly suggest that dealers bring a mask and personal hand sanatizer. The host facility supplied multiple hand sanatizer station for the public. I had a dealer bring me a full pack of mask to give attendees if they so wanted one.

Everyone needs to attend if they personally feel comfortable being there. I had two regular dealers that held off beginning there because they didn't feel comfortable being at the show. I told them I completely understand and their table would be waiting for them when decide to return. We all have to be personally responsible for ourselves and don't belittle others for their thoughts on the virus.

My personal thoughts are the smaller shows can and will be the beginning of getting the coin shows going again. I don't think I would be attending a larger show because of all of the traffic it would generate. Especially one in the northeast. This was the hot spot of the virus.

We had a great show that was well attended by dealers and public. There were 20 dealers. We had local shop owners coming through looking to buy material for their shops. Shop owners are saying that people are currently buying more than what the shop can buy through the door. We had a couple of dealers from the show circuit walking the floor buying inventory. They were happy just to be at a show.
Some of the public thought the dealers were trying to charge to much for silver and gold. They are out of touch with the premiums that are on metals at this point.
Collector coins were selling well along with currency. Overall it was a great show. The traffic died basically by 1-1:30. Over the last year, our attendance has been pretty solid up to about 2:30-3 o'clock.

All in all I think it was a great show and we will be back on July 11th.

It seems like reasonable decisions were made in terms of holding a show where people can attend if they want
and choose their level of protection.

I feel slightly bad in saying this, but it seems like a couple of the people in this photo from the middle
of the page look like they do not realize they are in a high risk group.
I hope it turns out OK for them.

I would not feel safe attending a show with no masks required. Of course, most of the people that I see at the store do not wear masks either.

For instance, when you go to the doctor's office where I live, you are required to wear a mask for the safety of others. It is a condition of entry.

Of course you live in a free country. But it does not let you enter anywhere that you want if you do not meet the private establishment's conditions of entry. No mask, no entry, no exceptions.

A mask is for the safety of others. I do not care to be around coughing, sneezing, loud talking collectors not wearing a mask.

It is an individual freedom of choice decision, but I certainly would not attend a coin show now for the reasons listed above.

I’m in the medical profession and I think I’m in the middle personally as far as masks, social distancing, and staying at home goes. I think it’s a huge mistake for older people and people with underlying medical problems to be at a coin show today regardless of numbers. Numbers change every week. Look at the number of new cases in Mississippi and how one rural hospital is being overwhelmed.

I think you meant "asymptomatic spread." That statement about spread of Covid19 was made by a WHO official at a news conference who afterwords amended her comments with this:
"The majority of transmission that we know about is that people who have symptoms transmit the virus to other people through infectious droplets,” Van Kerkhove said. “But there are a subset of people who don’t develop symptoms, and to truly understand how many people don’t have symptoms, we don’t actually have that answer yet.”
This is important because there are documented instances of people without symptoms (or with minimal symptoms) who spread the virus to multiple people. This typically involved a situation with multiple people in an enclosed space who were exposed. (coin show?)
I am a primary care physician on the front lines of this thing. It is no joke. One of my associates for the past 17 years contracted it and was homebound for 3 weeks. She was in agony the whole time. She is also the most germophobic person I know and always wore an N95 mask, goggles, and sanitized like crazy. And she still caught it, probably from a patient. I saw a patient for a "routine" office visit who admitted to GI symptoms , the next day she was in the hospital, and she was dead within the week.
It is worrisome to me that in the photo above I don't see anyone wearing a mask. It looks like people are distancing, for the most part, but of course passing fomites (coin slabs) back and forth so I hope they made use of the available hand sanitizer.
Masks and distancing definitely reduce the transmission of the virus, and I hope that anyone who chooses to attend a coin show will wear a mask (mostly to protect your fellow collectors) and observe distancing.
As for Tennessee, if you go to the JohnsHopkins website on covid 19, you will see that cases are steadily increasing. This is even more reason to be careful.
I care about the health of everyone on this forum. Covid 19 does not care about your politics, gender, race, or anything else. I do urge you to have an idea of your overall health. For instance, people with diabetes and chronic kidney disease are at high risk, but these disorders often have no symptoms and must be diagnosed with lab tests. So, if you haven't had a checkup with labs in the last year or so and are over age 60, I encourage you to see your clinician and have an exam with basic labs.
If you are immune suppressed, due to meds or disease, stay home.
I felt I had to post this as a physician who practices preventive health care. I won't post about this any more, and hope the mods will tolerate my apolitical comments. I just don't want any of you to contract this dangerous infection. Take care my friends.
