i cancelled my Apollo 5 oz silver coin yesterday. I ordered within the first 10 minutes of sale and it was still on back order. they are going down in price, ungraded in the 250 dollar level. they will probably be selling below issue price before the end of the year

Just got an email confirmation for the second BEP

Apollo 11 50th Anniversary 2019 Engraved Print: The Eagle Has Landed

Got a sub confirmation for the second BEP print, "Apollo 11 50th Anniversary 2019 Engraved Print: The Eagle H(as Landed)". (The "as Landed" is a guess since it's cut off the notice...)

The print is not on the schedule, so they must have sold out the subscription.

    I was charged $17. USS126180xx

I subscribed too. Billed the same as you.

The BEP prints are and have sold in the $60 -$75 range on ebay. So far, it's the best money maker related to the Apollo 11 coin related releases. Not a bad return on a $17 investment (subscription rate)

Just posted in "Coin Update" for those interested in Apollo Commemoratives from other countries to accompany your US Apollo coins. An Ultra High Relief Piedfort

Ascension: Moon landing’s 50th anniversary remembered with silver curved coin replicating lunar surface

    LINK: news.coinupdate.com/ascension-moon-landings-50th-anniversary-remembered-with-silver-curved-coin-replicating-lunar-surface/

The dome-shaped silver Proof-quality coins are produced by the Pobjoy Mint at their facilities in Surrey, England, on behalf of the treasury of Ascension. The coins are particularly designed to highlight the terrain of the Moon’s surface. Utilising an ultra-high relief strike and a domed shape, the coin’s surface replicates the surface of the Moon with its rough terrain and craters rising up

Here is the US Mint 1988 one full pound 90% uncirculated silver medal that was issued to support Young Astronauts with a similar Apollo astronaut moon theme. There were other sizes and proofs, including gold and bronze. A quarter is next to it for comparison. It will travel to our hosts for grading one of these days, when I get a few more medal varieties to keep it company.

That is hugh huge @Goldminers! Is there a slab that can fit in?

I think there is a chance it might fit into an Apollo puck slab, but not sure. They also minted 38 of a one pound gold version, but some were melted and I have not found one for sale at a reasonable price!

    Interesting picture.

Unless its an older picture, shame they didn't "spruced" up the display and present it in the National Air and Space Museum, instead of a warehouse environment.

Columbia, the Apollo 11 command module, used to reside at the Air and Space Museum In Washington, right at the entrance (“slabbed” in a giant protective case). But it is currently on tour as part of the 50th anniversary.

    https://airandspace.si.edu/exhibitions/destination-moon

Then when it returns it will be in a revamped disply.

Also, when preparing for this tour, they took a high res 3D scan of the interior. It’s amazing.

Anyone else noticed Apollo puck demand has basically vanished? First Strike 70's less than $400, PR69's barely above $250 and still heading down.

I sure expect more cancellations this week on the Mint report. Way, way too many sold.

    Expect an uptick in Jun/Jul.

Jun/Jul will be non-coin collector Apollo/NASA/space fans and those who give gifts to those fans.

    Shhh...

Mark-up it to $150... “cheaper than the puck and available now.”

I can hear it now on the late night coin dealer/hsn in Jun/Jul... :o:D

Next year it will be basketball pucks. Then maybe soccer pucks. Might as well do a football oblong puck, too while they are at it. And a bowling ball puck, and a golf ball puck. Puck. Puck. Puck.

Honestly, that wouldn't be their worst idea.

Of course, when the basketball pucks come in at least 5 different finishes....

(MS, PR, RP, Enhanced uncirculated, enhanced reverse proof...maybe SMS, matte proof...)

in at least 3 different boxes...

    (paper, wood, metal...maybe plastic, embossed...)

And then there's the limited edition rose gold curved basketball puck that comes mounted in the net of a basket...for the low low price of $2500

Yes, and the big winner will be the special limited edition just for kids with a "surprise" coin inside. Like a box of chocolates, You never know what you will get, but you have to pay first, and delivery date to be determined sometime in the future.

  • HemisphericalHemispherical Posts: 9,370 ✭✭✭✭✭

Hmmm... that bowling ball puck at 16lbs and gold sounds interesting @Goldminers.

But... no no no no... I do not need another type of slab or box/container or whatever to fit a golden ball...

And definitely no nets @jmlanzaf .

    LOL! ;)

  • GoldminersGoldminers Posts: 4,350 ✭✭✭✭✭

The bowling ball coin will have 3 holes in it.

The potential spotting issue on a very big puck pallet keeps me away from the graded 70 versions.

That was a sneaky little move. Any idea's what these are selling for on the 2nd market. Not that I would sell mine but just wondering. Still have not found out if PCGS will encapsulate it in a special framed Apollo 11 something? ;) Ran out of what to call it.

At the rate of losing 3,000 a month, the puck mintage should be down to a reasonable number by Christmas! :D

  • KudbegudKudbegud Posts: 4,735 ✭✭✭✭✭

I would say the mint made a big fail in their pants with the puck. Both in promotion and production. Seeing the numbers plummet every week is depressing. Such high anticipation, a disastrous first 10 minutes debacle and B/O so distant on the calendar. It couldn't have been worse if the planned to blow it on purpose.

The coin is magnificent in hand. Some heads should roll at the mint if there isn't a moon landing date marketing push for these.

    Sad.

"..........Some heads should roll at the mint if there isn't a moon landing date marketing push for these.........

    Too obvious. Never happen.

The pardon is for tyrants. They like to declare pardons on holidays, such as the birthday of the dictator, or Christ, or the Revolution. Dictators should be encouraged to keep it up. And we should be encouraged to remember that the promiscuous dispensation of clemency is not a sign of political liberality. It is instead one of those valuable, identifying marks of tyranny.
