I got my 2 half sets back from NGC today. I will post some pictures when I get home tonight. I am not familiar with what they are producing on these Apollo 11 coins but I imagine there nice too.

    @Gluggo You’re on a roll with 70s from both P. and N. Congrats!

Did you get them lotto tickets? LOL :)

  • GluggoGluggo Posts: 3,566 ✭✭✭✭✭

Hemispherical I am blown away I really am. Call it luck this time. I got 2 sets for the Rocketship I am hoping will get 70's! :#

  • HemisphericalHemispherical Posts: 9,370 ✭✭✭✭✭

@gluggo I have one more submission pending but I threw caution to the wind. ;) For these I’m planning on sending to my kids (they are adults). Especially, since I sent the rocketship to the little ones in the family/extended family.

I will admit that I will be keeping the best ones out of either submissions. :p

This is interesting. Apollo coins into space!

Sam Scimemi, Director for the @Space_Station at @NASA Headquarters, stopped by the ASF Office on 2/18 to pick up 2 U.S. Mint Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Commemorative Clad Coins. The coins will be traveling to the ISS in the near future!

    Great looking Apollo/Kennedy's

I got 2 sets for the Rocketship I am hoping will get 70's!

If you are referring to the MS Kennedy in the Rocketship set NGC has never given out a 70 for any MS Kennedy and 69's are extremely rare

Come on BigA let me dream! :(:):D

This will be my first ever submisions of these coins. o:) Almost makes me wonder why I am doing this. I got about 4 hours before going to the Post Office.

It was odd that they went "sold out" so quickly. They usually stay "unavailable" for weeks or months.

Dang it. Now I have to do the 7:30 mint.gov dance...

5 ounce Earth Rising 70's are getting close to $450ish.

    How low will they go?

When? This month or 5 years from now?

I'd imagine in the next month or so they will drop below $400. At some point, all the plastic collectors will have their coin. That should stabilize prices in the near term. In the longer run, I'd expect to see $300 if silver stays where it is in price.

  • jmlanzafjmlanzaf Posts: 34,081 ✭✭✭✭✭

If I can put in an ad for Monster Coin Mart. Justin's got the Apollo Kennedy coins in 1st Strike PCGS 69 holders at a very attractive price. I bought 10 of them and, thanks to eBay bucks, my net was pretty close to the cost of the Apollo sets initially.

  • GoldminersGoldminers Posts: 3,959 ✭✭✭✭✭

These pucks look really nice, but there are not really 60,000 collectors, and so they will continue to go down in price. Five ounces of silver is still less than $100 melt.

I think there will be another rush to get the Legions tomorrow, but I expect the same trend. Too many minted and sold, no where near enough people who want to keep them.

I may not even order them at all this time direct from the Mint, as it costs me too much per coin to grade only a few of them, so I will just buy the 70's I want to keep from dealers a month from now, just like mentioned above..

@Goldminers I agree with your reference to the number of coin collectors. But for these two coins the base of Apollo fans and American Legion members are in the millions. It is too bad there is no push and limited advertising.

I know both coins are being promoted by their respective outlets but still. Do we see anything through any mass media channel. Hardly.

Everyone in my circle knows/wants these but we cannot make up the 100,000 of thousands being minted.

    My 2C

Time to switch gears and put the B) hat on.

I support the Legion also, but I only want just one of each in a PCGS 70 holder.

The only coin the mass media would support is if AOC can get a majority in Congress to approve minting a 2020 coin that commemorates Article I, Section 2, Clause 5 of the Constitution on the obverse, and Article I, Section 3, Clause 6 on the reverse >:)

Cannot like and LOL at the same time...

    Like the support.

LOL at mass media that is commonly seen on TV... I avoid negativity as much as possible. Life is too short.

Had to breakout my pocket Constitution book. :)

    LOL mine does. 😬

I thought RAM, not Perth, was minting the paired US & Australia coins?

    Different coins, different mints.

The Royal Australian Mint is more like the US Mint. They're the ones who actually strike the circulating coinage. Actually, they're more like RCM, who produce a bunch of collector coins, but still produce the circulating coinage.

Perth was initially the bullion branch of the Aus government, but today they're the guys who produce the Barbie, Simpson, Star Trek, Looney Tunes and Avengers colorized coins. They produce so many licensed coins that I think if you grease the right palms, you can even get yourself on a 5000 piece, colorized, limited edition .999 silver (your choice of weight here) coin with Queenie Liz on the Obverse.

Oh, they still produce bullion, both coin and bar.

Snagged a half set this morning. By the time I checked out, it was back to CU.

I even got my confirmation e-mail. It can flip back to sold out now. :D

Got my slabs. Pictures for comparison of sizes. Did not include the clad Kennedy or half-dollar. Sorry for bad photos and lighting.

Need to get a storage box for Apollo puck and Silver dollar. Too big and too thick, repectively, to fit in the standard PCGS storage box of 20. ;) Probably going to have to do what @Gluggo did, thanks for the idea.

The Gold is in a standard size slab as is the Kennedy and half-dollar and does fit in the box of 20.

    Edit: @Gluggo modified Storage II

Those look good Hemispherical and I really do like my large holder. It allows me to put the additional double holder Apollo 11 coin's. Plus I bought an additional double holder with 1 war nickel and 1 steel penny. Who would of thought all of a sudden I now have 3 of the double holders when last week I never had 1. I will probably put that in the 2nd PCGS Storage Box II is what they are called. Under the supplies. They shipped out real quick.

    https://www.pcgs.com/store/c-3-supplies.aspx

Again nice collection you got. I hope you were able to get the posters too that would look real nice in a display case with the Apollo poster and everything. I will have to look around see if they make a picture holder that allows the coins to sit in front of the Poster. Maybe have an Apollo Museum in the home when friends come over I could show them I am a Apollo nut. Maybe even go for a ride up to the moon when we have the Space rides to the moon coming in a 10 years. :p I better start saving now. :(

Nice I did not realize it only took 8 days to fly to the moon and back. I would of thought a lot longer. See how educational that coin is! She is pretty. And a 70 to boot thanks for sharing.

    Great images from PCGS!
Did you ask to hv them imaged?

I still think the Proof version is so much appropriate for the reflection off Aldrin's helmet visor.

Great results! Love the TV! Everytime I look at them I notice something I did not notice before.

This time, the details of wrinkles on the spacesuit.

    @Sweetpie

Agree. The PF version makes the reflection from the helmet standout.
