When we were kids my buddy and I weren't happy with the speed of our Cox airplanes. We decided to fabricate our own props, bigger with a really strong pitch. We used aluminum from cans or something. We were spinning in circles so fast we were dizzy at the end of a tank of fuel.

Looking back, I now realize that if the leading edge of those props ever had a nick or tear, or if it tore in half at the hub, a piece probably could've flung off and killed one of us!

Yes, very distinct smell, oil on your hands.
I had so much fun with these as a kid in the mid 70's.
(I had a instruction manual that recommended cleaning the motor with Gasoline, Really?)
Carried over into my adult life, I collect them now.
