It was my own father's passing after a brief battle with lung cancer in 2009 that reignited my interest in coin collecting and led me here. Here's my favorite 1956, may his white robe in heaven be even whiter.

Thoughts and prayers go to you and your family.
Even knowing it is coming, it just doesn't seem easy. Last year for me, with my mother, due to cancer issues and COPD.

There have been excellent "tribute" coins posted. I don't have many, slabbed, 1956 coins, and even less that I have good pics of (I stopped taking pics years ago), but, from an old pic, I hope you don't mind part of a 1956 double mint set (the philly board)....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I lost both parents to this disease. Here is a coin in his honor, perhaps the ray of sunlight coming from the clouds is welcoming him home

Paradise,,,,, very sorry to hear about the loss of your Father.

My slightly older sister was also born in 1956 and she also passed from lung cancer this past April. She fought it for 7 years but ultimately lost her battle.

    I don't have a photo of a 1956 coin on file but here is a 1938-D/S PCGS MS67 Buffalo that I have.

Dear lady, my condolences on your loss. When I lost my dad back in '96 the words that follow were a great comfort to me. From "Lone Pilgrim":
Go tell my companion and children most dear
To weep not for me now I'm gone
The same hand that led me through seas most severe
    Has kindly assisted me home.

It's amazing to see what a gorgeous sky you were able to see this morning, and that you took time and effort to share it with all of us is proof of your generous spirit.

So very, very sorry to hear about your great loss. This one hits home with me, as I lost my Father to lung cancer as well. I would not wish this terrible disease on anyone. Bless his heart, and may he now rest in peace. Too young. :(

Take care, and remember the good times; I know he'll watch over you.

I don't have a coin to post, but I took this photo of another monetary instrument two weeks ago. The bill is a Ten Yuan denomination and the depicted scene on it is of the same Yangtze River Gorge seen in the background. The peaceful serenity of the scene hopefully offers some measure of comfort.

FWIW, the now peaceful flow of the river as pictured was once a treacherous and turbulent place before the Three Gorges Dam raised the water level. Analogously peace can replace life's turbulence as one goes from one stage of existence to another.

No photo of a coin from 1956.

However here is a photo of a Lincoln cent bracelet I found in my dad's belongings after he passed in 2014.

Do not know when or where he acquired it. When I see it I am reminded of my dad.

I'm really sorry to hear this. My dad died earlier this year, also from cancer. He loved poetry, especially Keats -

Can death be sleep, when life is but a dream,
And scenes of bliss pass as a phantom by?
The transient pleasures as a vision seem,
And yet we think the greatest pain's to die.

How strange it is that man on earth should roam,
And lead a life of woe, but not forsake
His rugged path; nor dare he view alone
His future doom which is but to awake.

    John Keats

Even though we think we are prepared, nothing really prepares us for the passing of a loved one.
I hope you can take solace in the time you spent with him and the memories that you made together.
