I'm very sorry to hear about your father. I would post the 1956 proof set (my birth year) that my father, who I lost to cancer, gave me when I was a young coin collector. But others have posted much better photos of that than I could take. I hope you'll forgive me posting a non-coin item that might be interesting to you...Queen Liliuokalani. I'm glad you're visiting the forums again. I very much enjoy your posts.
It was my own father's passing after a brief battle with lung cancer in 2009 that reignited my interest in coin collecting and led me here. Here's my favorite 1956, may his white robe in heaven be even whiter.
Thoughts and prayers go to you and your family.
Even knowing it is coming, it just doesn't seem easy. Last year for me, with my mother, due to cancer issues and COPD.
There have been excellent "tribute" coins posted. I don't have many, slabbed, 1956 coins, and even less that I have good pics of (I stopped taking pics years ago), but, from an old pic, I hope you don't mind part of a 1956 double mint set (the philly board)....
My prayers for your father's peaceful passing. I hope that you have the help of hospice, they are wonderful.
I lost both parents to this disease. Here is a coin in his honor, perhaps the ray of sunlight coming from the clouds is welcoming him home
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss @Paradisefound! I'm glad to hear you're at peace. It is something that happens to all of us so that is the best we can do.
I don't have any coins from 1956, but Hawaii is one of my favorite places to hike. Here's a photo of the Stairway to Heaven on Oahu wishing him a good journey to the other side.
When I looked out the window this morning ...... sky is vibrant.... painted by the Sun rising; to renew us all
I am in peace in this immortal life we live in ..... I wouldn't be here without my Dad so I am Blessed despite my lost
Paradise,,,,, very sorry to hear about the loss of your Father.
My slightly older sister was also born in 1956 and she also passed from lung cancer this past April. She fought it for 7 years but ultimately lost her battle.
I don't have a photo of a 1956 coin on file but here is a 1938-D/S PCGS MS67 Buffalo that I have.
Dear lady, my condolences on your loss. When I lost my dad back in '96 the words that follow were a great comfort to me. From "Lone Pilgrim": Go tell my companion and children most dear
To weep not for me now I'm gone
The same hand that led me through seas most severe
Has kindly assisted me home.
It's amazing to see what a gorgeous sky you were able to see this morning, and that you took time and effort to share it with all of us is proof of your generous spirit.
So very, very sorry to hear about your great loss. This one hits home with me, as I lost my Father to lung cancer as well. I would not wish this terrible disease on anyone. Bless his heart, and may he now rest in peace. Too young.
Take care, and remember the good times; I know he'll watch over you.
Dave
Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.
My condonlences @Paradisefound and @GRANDAM. It's never easy to say good bye to loved ones
My cousin also lost her 9 years battle with lung cancer. She passed away a couple months ago and she was 41
I don't have a coin to post, but I took this photo of another monetary instrument two weeks ago. The bill is a Ten Yuan denomination and the depicted scene on it is of the same Yangtze River Gorge seen in the background. The peaceful serenity of the scene hopefully offers some measure of comfort.
FWIW, the now peaceful flow of the river as pictured was once a treacherous and turbulent place before the Three Gorges Dam raised the water level. Analogously peace can replace life's turbulence as one goes from one stage of existence to another.
I'm really sorry to hear this. My dad died earlier this year, also from cancer. He loved poetry, especially Keats -
Can death be sleep, when life is but a dream,
And scenes of bliss pass as a phantom by?
The transient pleasures as a vision seem,
And yet we think the greatest pain's to die.
How strange it is that man on earth should roam,
And lead a life of woe, but not forsake
His rugged path; nor dare he view alone
His future doom which is but to awake.
Though I only visit the forum on occasion , I do take notice to your posts and I believe we have spoken briefly over Dan Carr in the past...
You come across as about the sweetest member possible in this forum and just reading all of the condolences I’m sure that all are deeply saddened by your loss as am I
I only hope you can find the strength to carry on and continue on your path
I lost my Dad 29 years ago just after the birth of his Grandaughter, who just got married . Sadly he never got to meet his Grandsons , but I share many stories and have loads of pictures..He was lost to pancreatic cancer, but thankfully he didn’t suffer long .
I included a couple of pics of him belowfrom his time serving in WWII .
My Mother recently turned 96 , but sadly fell and broke her leg at a beautiful nursing home that she resides in . I currently spend 5-6 days a week for 3 hours just talking with her , because I want to spend as much time as possible with her and help her in any way possible .
Life is fleeting and sometimes I just don’t know how it has passed by so quickly .
God Bless you and your family and may your Dad R.I.P. .
I know he is very proud
This is the place in the ocean that my Dads ashes were spread and mine will be there with him some day as we both loved the beach and ocean
I think of him in spirit every time that I am there ..
His time serving our country in North Africa, Egypt, Tunisia and Italy ..
If you are of Hawaiian lineage then you will appreciate this amazing Haka done for a retiring teacher by high schoolers .
I will leave it as a memorial for your Dad !!!
BIG for @Bigpoppas for your rare appearance on my thread ....... and a sweet one that is
Your love for your Dad shows through your thoughtful words and may you always live knowing how much you're loved too.
I love the HAKA ..... will bookmark this forever.
Paradise found, I can only surmise that you are a lasting reflection of your dad, and that he raised a wonderful gal to follow in his footsteps. My condolences and best wishes.
Q: Are You Printing Money? Bernanke: Not Literally
Even though we think we are prepared, nothing really prepares us for the passing of a loved one.
I hope you can take solace in the time you spent with him and the memories that you made together.
@Bigpoppas those are great photos of your father. I think that is an M1 carbine he is handling.
The only wartime photo of my grandfather that I have is a picture of him and a buddy skinny dipping in the Mediterranean - a little too much reality of the daily life of an Army doctor serving in North Africa and southern Italy.

No photo of a coin from 1956.
However here is a photo of a Lincoln cent bracelet I found in my dad's belongings after he passed in 2014.
Do not know when or where he acquired it. When I see it I am reminded of my dad.
Sorry for your loss, may your dad rest in peace
