    Sure, but my eyes tell me that that would not be the case. Many other details are struck up just fine. There's a gouge from the shield to the feather as well and that seems odd.

    I think that the half eagle is genuine. The first two pictures look quite different than the next ones. A few things that don't look right on the first two pictures look fine on the others.

    I noticed a slight doubling of the date at top in the picture taken from the top angle, especially on the "1" and "8"". Is this really there (repunching?) or a shadow from the angle of the photo?

    How about $5 in silver? Does this qualify?

    I think it is genuine as well. I wish I could post my $5 gold, one that I received long ago from my grandfather's estate, but I'm away at the moment. That was the only gold coin in his collection. He pulled everything from circulation while he worked in a hardware store, including a 1877 Indian head cent and a 1916-d Mercury. One day in the early 50s, he bought a cup of coffee and got a 1942/1 dime in change. He immediately offered it back to the cashier, telling her it was valuable. Just the kind of guy he was!
    Fortunately, she didnt take advantage of him and told him to keep it for his collection.

    Looks like an honest well-used 1900 Half Eagle that likely circulated about 33-34 years until the US Government removed gold coins from general circulation.

    Although in my life I have known people born before 1900, it seems a long time ago. The Klondike Gold Rush a couple years earlier (perhaps part of this coin?) had pulled the US out of a depression. All the amazing changes of the 20th century were yet to come.

    Philadelphia in 1900 was a very different place. Cool coin!
