Is this toning worth the premium?

They want $115 for this 1885 O MS62. I was curious if you guys thought this was way too much premium for the toning? I mean the toning is very nice IMO but $70 premium? Not sure! The reverse is blast white btw.

I'm not a buyer for any premium - in fact, unattractive toning at that grade is a negative to me.

I'll be the contrarian. I believe the toning would look quite nice with better lighting and photography. The premium is still way too high though.

I won't pay a premium for toned coins-especially common dates-unless I see the coin in hand. I do like nice color, though the OP's coin is not attrative to me. jmo

Well if that toning adds $70... Then the rim bump @ 9 o'clock subtracts $71 ;)

I think the color is ok, but opinion could easily be positive or negative. I would value the coin around $50-$60.

The rim dings don't work for me. The toning may be unattractive due to the lighting. Pass overall.

Huge pass. I don't how the coin even got a grade. If you look above the "M" in the word "UNUM", you will see a flat spot that looks suspiciously like a filed rim to me. In the old days that resulted in an instant “no grade” or body bag.

As for the toning, it is too dark and unattractive.

I can see where it takes a $35 dollar coin up to $50 for some. It's not beautiful, but it isn't plain white either.

That's non-premium toning and then some. Some Ebay sellers would call this monster toning, with "L@@K!!!" in the title.

Those rim bumps on the sides should probably negate any premium for the toning, in my opinion.

Seems like he(or someone) has a lot "invested" in that coin with grading and CAC submission costs.

It would be a real find at normal price, but not at that premium. Plus the rims are a distraction.

For my taste, the toning is neutral, but I don't like the coin. If you like the coin and like the toning, then you have to determine if you care that the sampling of the marketplace here would place no premium on it.

The fact that you are asking the question tells me that you already know the answer. It is a very common coin in very common grade with unattractive toning. Pass, pass, pass. Just because a coin has a CAC sticker doesn’t mean much to me, nor should it to you. I have to like the coin. Someone else does not have to like the coin for me. I am sure that with patience you can find one of this date that will really appeal to you. Take your time and don’t rush it.

For me I would pass, but I don't collect toned Morgans, so the toning doesn't really sway me. I have been known to pay more for a coin that I had been hunting, and really liked, so if this one fills a hole for you in a collection or you find it attractive then it may be a buy for you. I don't find the toning attractive to buy it at all.

If you have to ask, the answer (for you) is "no".

If you love that toning, you would already have jumped on the coin.

I don’t find the toning on this piece attractive in any way. No, no.
