So we have several people in Hawaii. I can't believe that no one has come through with a supply of lava encased coins.

Speaking of lava encased coins,,,,,,,,,, I am wondering how hard lava is to break-up and remove?
Say your house survived but is surrounded by lava or your road is blocked,,, how hard is the lava?
Could it be broken up with a tractor with a front end loader or is it so hard it has to be blasted?

Been wondering this since seeing the photos of the lava creaping around people's property?

It was mentioned on another thread, but I think pumice is light and brittle, but lava is liquid rock, very hard and solid once it cools, as you would expect rock to be.

Pumice has all those signatures holes.....where gassy air escaped upon hardening

Very neat phots! I'm surprised you could get that close.

Oh yeah! That road get up and personal. Actually some world class sport climbing right behind the monument, a buffer zone is there for sure, but you can hike all around on foot. I was even lucky enough to get to tag along with a group of Harley Davidson executives and we got to go on top of the heads with a ranger in 2010 during the Sturgis Rally. Feel pretty lucky to have done that.

Como? It's a ghost town in Nevada, across the valley from Virginia City. Been there and beautiful high mountain desert with junipers and pinion pines. No road and just a jeep trail today.

Right. I would tell and show people where I live here in ?????. Most beautiful place on Earth. But then they would all come here. There are already too many people here. Nutty people and politics aside, they just can't stay away. You know what I'm talking about justacommeman. I've seen the background scenery in some of your posts. You and I are practically neighbors. Let's keep it a secret.

P.S. How was your orange and avocado crop this year? Mine was scrum-diddly-yumpious! Manna from Heaven.

Roger Miller. God rest his soul. Back in 1977 he took a liking to the 18 year old future Mrs. Hydrant. He ended up on the floor and I Ended up getting thrown out of the Golden Nugget Casino. We spent that night out at Red Rock Canyon. She was my girl then and she still is. Oh, Yeah.

    Batumi!

Never heard of it. So I looked it up. The Interweb said it was in Georgia. I was suspicious. I looked closer. It's in the COUNTRY of Georgia. :D

Yes, JBK. Definitely far from Fulton County. We spend most of our summers in Batumi.

Pictures of the Old Town look nice, and with 1000 years of history there must be some great numismatic treasures buried around there somewhere.

When I lived in Germany a favorite day trip was to Salzburg, Austria. I always made the trip to the castle at the top of the hill overlooking the city. A few years later I read that a small hoard of medieval gold coins had been uncovered somewhere in the castle. Not that I had been in a position to find them, but I had no doubt been within spitting distance many times.

The old city is cool. A lot of Italian influence as they designed and built quite a few buildings before the Bolsheviks. 'New' Batumi doesn't appeal much to me, as it is pretty much new concrete and steel like lots of other places-shopping mall, fast food and like. Decent flats are very inexpensive, though. We have a small flat in the old city where it is an easy wa;k to most things.
As for coin hoards, I have heard many more rumors than seen coins. There was a strong Roman presence, along with ruins of a fort dating from about two thousand years ago. Also a 'lost' treasure of Queen Tamara. Makes good rumor fodder all the same.

I live in the northeastern part of Oregon, (Hermiston) and if I posted a pic you would see a landscape devoid of all the mountains and trees (basically geologically featureless) most people think of when they hear "Oregon".

Two of my ex-Marine friends say this part of Oregon looks more like Afghanistan.

Most of my family is in the Tri-Cities, but I spent a lot of time growing up riding in my Dad's work truck going through the farm fields around Hermiston and Umatilla. Outstanding melons!

I did the Dahlonega thing for the weekend. Bought all the stuff, pans, maps, books - found nothing (did get some black sand) but had a lot of fun in the creeks and got a good tan.

What sickness could possibly lead you to think that I would intentionally add a disagree to a nice photo of a landscape? My disagree was an ACCIDENT that I removed when I figured it out on my own.

On the other hand, your groundless disagree was INTENTIONAL and MALICIOUS. That is not a healthy way to live your life, and I hope you see that.
