PCGS Invitational New Orleans Show Report and NEWP $3 proof gold

Well first off this California Boy forget how sticky it could be in Nawlins. Dayum it was hot here. I flew in Weds and made it in just in time to enjoy at wonderful meal with Mr And Mrs CRO. John's taste in coins is only exceeded by his taste in women.
On the way back from dinner I was stopped it my tracks by this piece of art. It was life size. I texted my wife and asked if I could buy it. She asked where I planned on putting it. I said the bed room. I didn't hear back from her after that. I figured her phone must of died.
Thursday morning I headed over to the show. I generally come to these events to catch up with dealer friends and establish new connections. I got to spend a lot of time with Larry Shepherd , John Agre and Seth Chandler/Luis. I always learn something new bouncing things off of others. These events are extra friendly to do just that. I really wanted to spend a lot of time with Seth as his expertise is a lot different from mine. I was not disappointed. What a wonderful dude. Chatted a little with Laura and team Legend and spent a couple hours in lot viewing.
Here are a few pics to capture the spirit of the event:
I was able to spend some off the bourse time with BustDMs, David Perkins ( The Man) and David Sunshine UltraHighRelief for some show and tell. It was 45 minutes well spent. All super knowledgeable and great guys.
One of the Highlights of the show for me was the 1898 gold Proof Set ( Witter Coins). Jaw dropping.
I thought this piece of documentation was pretty awesome as well ( not linked to the proof set)
I didn't buy anything at auction. I had a couple holes to fill in my Walker set but it wasn't meant to be. The Oak Crest Collection of $5 CC was awesome and I enjoyed the spirited bidding. Speaking of spirited bidding the Rhode Island Commem 68 CAc action was like a Cold War Spassky-Fischer chess match. It ended up hammering at 37k+ juice. I think both sides used all their timeouts during the glacial paced bidding.
During the show I was able to pick up a piece for my gold set. Thank you Seth and Luis ( Witter Coins) for being so patient through the process. They didn't give out CAMs or DCams during this era but for sure its a CAM or better. Love it.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

Great report and congrats on the $3!
Seth is a lot of fun and is having a great time with the shop in SF.
That proof set is jaw dropping!
Would have come but my son, wife and grandson are in the process of moving and didn't need a house guest at this time in their life. Will miss visiting NOLA as frequently as we have been.
Laura said the auction was white hot nuclear
Was there today (Thursday). Had a great time despite not buying anything.
Wowsers on the proof gold, glad you had a good time Mark, and connecting with friends always makes it worth the trip.
Nice newp!!!!

Partake of any Jumbalaya or Etoufee while in the Big Easy? Who's the guy with the horseshoe haircut that looks like Rick Snow?
Cool report. The Peace dollars sold for unbelievable money, even considering the quality of the pieces. The top end of that market is white hot apparently.
Sweet coin Mark!
Thank you for being our eyes & ears...I "enjoyed" your trip
@Justacommeman
The Crow River Peace dollars were all there. Great collector .
Great coins

Thanks for a nice report. Love the $3 gold.
I really embraced this trip as I’m being sent to China on a special long term project and have to put Mexico City on the back burner. Not what I planned.

Congrats on the NEWP & thanks for sharing....Mike
I wish PCGS would slap a CAC type sticker on these older holders to indicate CAM or DCAM. That way folks wouldn’t be tempted to crack out these older holders for the designation. I know they probably want the revenue of the crack but they could charge a hundy or so for the CAM/DCAM review to offset it

You've stolen my words!
Awesome coin and great report
Ditto
Interesting. What happens though if PCGS adds a DCAM sticker and CAC believes that it is only a CAM. Would they have to dispatch secret agents to your home to retrieve the green sticker?
I thought CAC only approved the numberical grade. If not so I could live with CAC not being part of fhe attribution portion of this scenario in regards to CAM and DC. Anyways it was just a passing thought

really good report, thanks for writing it up
Latin American Collection
I had thought that as well. TDN noted in a post though that CAC considers PL and DMPL designations. I assume then that CAM/DCAM designations are considered as well.
In all seriousness and without starting a CAC flare up, the market could use a handbook on CAC procedures as a decade in, many serious hobbyists still don't understand exactly what the sticker defines.
I sure as hell don't.
Here is the thread regarding PL/DMPL designations / CAC

She will be be home in an hour. I'm about to find out. She did go on a buying spree at lunch today as witnessed by our debit card alerts over $200 going off like a 4 alarm fire. She was not bashful. I might be off the hook but poorer

But I'll bet you have more to show from your shopping. Your purchase is like a diamond, it is forever, and will just get better with time.
I think I stumbled upon the wrong thread, this is WAY out of my league......
Ouch in Couch City with that line.
Worse. "Jimmy Choo at retail?"
Worstest (from the lady) : "And to top it off, your pal Albanese must have missed this hairline on your three".
No, worserer would be "Your pal Albanese missed a hairline on my new Rhode Island"
Only works when you're giving her a diamond and comparing it to their love, or Couch City.

Attend to the wisdom I have gained from a lifetime of cloudy thinking and clumsy mistakes
Fewer on coins than women is not necessarily a saving grace
nice report. love the newp. agree with the cam/dcam sticker idea. agree with wonder woman idea. tell her it will match the drapes or something like that.
Great to see you there. I ended up selling Seth my San Francisco Mint 1906 original image to Seth. Since he's in the city, it was the right thing to do.
Rick as always I enjoyed the chat. I’m so happy Seth ended up with your original photo and thanks for sharing. I look forward to the next time
