It's scary the lengths people will go to in order to deceive and profit. Good catch.

    Awesome catch!

I wonder what will happen to the coin's value, being either way it's a details/genuine coin? I liked it better holed.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Does this qualify as "restoration"? The hole does not belong there! :)

Exactly...and personally with the expert repair(of course with full disclosure) I think the coin is worth more now. It's a risky undertaking to repair early copper. I have been told many have exploded when the heat needed to execute a repair is applied!

I'd rather have had the hole tbh. With or without it, the new "coin" looks trashy.

That's incredibly good, even better than that 1873-cc quarter that was done while back

How hard would it be to restore it to its previous hole-ness?

    that old hole was special

Wow! Expertly repaired, indeed. The filled hole on the reverse stands out a bit, and there is a hit at the cut end of the branch that the doctor should have repaired. I hate the color, though.

    I agree. What a shame!

The only saving grace is that even though it's been altered, at least we know it's genuine.

Amazing repair work.... I can admire the skill applied, while preferring it with the hole.... Cheers, RickO

How do I "take back" a errant disagree?
Sorry Halfsense, I was just trying to figure out why someone gave you a disagree for your post and hit the wrong button.

  • RayboRaybo Posts: 5,342 ✭✭✭✭✭

I figured it out, just go back and hit the "agree button" :#

I wonder if they didn't have a previous record of the coin would they have cought it?

It may look crude to the early Copper guys, but to me it looks like that DR has a few hours under his belt and did a pretty convincing job, (unfortunately for the average collector) and without strong magnification it would be tough to detail that one in the grading room without taking the extra time and research. But kudos to the staff for taking the time to get it right.
