Nope, I do not see the attraction what soever. One day IF I do a type set I would be forced into it. But other than that NOPE.
I have one for my 20th century half dollar type set... I think it's a very respectably circulated coin that has 'the look' - 1914 Philadelpha PCGS VG 8 CAC. Surprisingly not an easy coin to find in that year/mm/grade problem free and eye appealing.
Successful transactions with: wondercoin, Tetromibi, PerryHall, PlatinumDuck, JohnMaben/Pegasus Coin & Jewelry, CoinFlip, and coinlieutenant.
No.. I don't collect them.
I have at least 100 Barber Halves, but not a single one is worth a tinkers damn, condition-wise. I have dimes and quarters too, but only a single Barber quarter that is late-dated and a just passable Very Fine. It is not an area that I want to pour a lot of money into.
Barber coins are very frustrating because they circulated until they had the pee worn out of them. I assume this was because of The Great Depression.
FWIW, I find the estimates of surviving circulated coins in Whitman's Barbers book (in the Bowers series) to be almost unbelievably too low.
I gave the most correct response for a Type Collector (Yes, I’m a casual collector; I collect them, but not as my primary hobby niche) ...I have one of each denomination, but I am also a member of the Barber Coin Collectors’ Society, and it is really hard to upgrade my Everyman Set with my present AU58's.

I've taken a break recently, but when I am active, it's a sickness.
I have a few raw..........couldn't tell you the dates or condition though

Bad transactions with : nobody to date
Working on VG set of Quarters and Halves. Mostly the first thing I am looking for walking into a coin show. One day will work on the dimes.
I only collect barbers as "junk silver". My main spot where I buy 90%, barbers cost as much as roosies do....melt! So I naturally get barbers anything, SLQ and merc dimes. Here's the last batch I picked from:
I had accumulations of all three denominations once upon a time, focusing on the better dates in F-AU.
Sold off the halves, then the dimes. Still have the hoard of quarters. If I ever come across an old National or Wayte Raymond album, I may actually build a collection
The closest answer was #3 for me. I have them for type coins, and that's it.
I've been down the date and mintmark collection road, and I got bored with it pretty fast.
No. I have a few, but only junk silver.
I enjoy other series and own none that I know of.

My digital cameo album 1950-64 Cameos - take a look!
No longer, I did have a full set of Dimes and Halves in Dansco albums. The Quarter album was only missing the 1901-S.
I like them as junk silver also. I'd rather have circulated barber stuff than washington quarters or roosevelt dimes .
Barber Dimes mostly, slowly participating in the registry. I only buy a few pieces a year, no rush, just nice pieces when they come available.
I have some for a type set. God bless those that like the series and collect them. And in all fairness, various dates of all denominations at VF35 through AU58 fall within the spectrum of being difficult to even rare to find. Sort of interesting that coinage in other countries were not saved at the time either. The interest was in ancients. Try and find a decent coinage from the reign of Edward VII from either Canada or the UK.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Only collect them by type + a few other pick-ups over the years.
1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
I was born too late to start collecting them from circulation, and didn't have a mentor to tell me all about them as a youth, so my 10/25/50-cent silver collections started with Merc's, Washies, & Walkers/Franklins. Always regretted not having expanded my search when younger & before silver prices exploded, but never a true fan of the design even as I grew older. So the only Barbers any of us have are those in our 20th Century type set Whitman folders, and a similar framed type set.
But I'll tell you what, though, since I have the nearly-empty blue Whitman folders for each Barber & SLQ type, what I wouldn't give to cherrypick thru ShadyDave's pictured latest melt batch!!!
I have one of each denomination for a type set. That's enough for me.
About 5 years ago i was actively collecting all Barbers. I have complete sets of the dimes and halves and only need the 1901 S to complete the quarters. All of the coins are G-VG except the common date dimes which are F- VF. My goal with these sets was to build them with coins that were not cleaned, no rim dings, with very minimal scratches and no heavy scratches or damage. This was not as easy as sounds considering how heavily the coins in this grade circulated. I dug through a lot of dealer boxes and binders to assemble these sets. The key dates I did have to buy graded to make sure they were authentic.
Just an unc dime, quarter and half for my type set.

"Sou Mangueira......."
Yes, I’m an active collector. I’m filling an album or folder.
I completed the dimes set and had it in a Dansco with G-VG with a few fines in later dates. Once I was finished I lost interest, sold them - probably lost a few bucks too. My Halves set is complete and I have done a little upgrading on some of the lower quality ones. I have always favored the quarters for some odd reason and have been continually looking out for upgrades to my set.
Just in my junk silver stack. Probably not many, maybe a roll of halves, roll of dimes and half roll of quarters. Don't like them because they tend to be very slick. Give me rolls of unc '64 over the ole slick stuff anyday
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
P45, P58, CAC only, O Mint, Quarter and Half. Got some to sell?
Best, SH
Looking for holed 10¢, 25¢, and 50¢. Offer me some.
I've been meaning to buy, at least one, MS Barber half dollar coin, as a type, but have not done so yet.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

They just don’t resonate with me.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
I don't collect foreign coins.....
Just a few for type. Original, attractive circulated Barbers do grab my attention when I see them though.

Always been fascinated with them but the higher quality issues expensive. Like them in G/VG bulk rolls I can pour out of the tube like treasure.
I do occasionally buy / sell some nice higher grade Pcgs circs mainly halves.
no i own some but not really into it. theres nothing wrong with it just saying
Had a Proof of each denomination at one time, very nice but did not resonate with me either. I do prefer Mint State, think there is more value there.
I may have some in my junk silver, but that would be it. They are attractive in mint state.

Only one proof dime that I really like
Barber material is hideous. Terrible design...mundane. Avoid at all costs, especially examples in the VF-XF range.
Dave
I have some as 90%, and I guess I do have one Whitman folder of Barber dimes I got at an auction that is almost filled (it was already filled with some of the key dates, and I added more from my 90%).
I generally prefer circs to MS Barbers, as I appreciate the "workhorse" aspect of the coins more than the design.
Gonna get me a $50 Octagonal someday. Some. Day.

FWIW, the voting options in this poll are pretty well-written. Not often seen.
Type only left out.
I believe I own a few. I wasn't aware there was anything else worth collecting.
Yes, I’m a very active collector. I’m constantly upgrading my set, or otherwise very active (e.g., cherrypicking or collecting by Fivaz-Stanton number; and/or a member of the Barber Coin Collectors’ Society).
I like to quietly pick-up high-quality VF to AU. I struggle to go after halves due to cost but I have also been known to put out strong money on occassion to appropriately fill slots - so once in a while you might find an auction paddle surprise - mainly coming from my love for research and have put in the time to make value-based, overlooked purchases. I have also purchased unwanteds for my training set... used for passing on knowledge to subsequent generations. Also collect a variety of US issues in nice but tougher dates. Have other US date sets and spreadsheet analyses.
A Barber Quartet is made up of Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, and Halves.
I have a Barber dime with a tiny counterstamp of lyrics from a circa-1910 popular song, "Keep a Cozy Little Corner in Your Heart for Me." I think the love-token fad was dying down by the end of the Barber coin era, but there's still some neat stuff out there.
Somehow mint state examples always look like they've been dipped or treated with acetone to me, or else have unattractive toning.

I used to be fanatical about Barbers. Now, not so much. I casually collect them when I see one that "speaks to me".
Yes, as far as my registry set. They are nice coins I'd collect except for my budget
I have never understood the unfavorable attitude toward the Barber design.
Yes, it ran forever but ...to my eye.... the Barber series is the closest to classic ancient beginnings of coinage.
A head on a plain field.
But so many people say they don't like the design.
Oh well. Even I only have two.
Acquired simply for the reason above. They have a "classic" look. To me.
Outstanding coins, that quarter is really nice.
I'm actually in between active and casual.
I have the classic Whitman blue 3 page folder albums, with almost entirely G-4 coins, complete except for the keys.
I also have an EF of each denomination in my type set, and both hub types for the 1892 quarters.
They were originally my grandfather's, and I filled in most of the holes in the first 2 years after I bought them from him.
Have not added to it in 20 years.
