    YAWN :(

I sure am glad I gave up on trying to keep up with everything the mint issues many years ago. I am keeping up with the commemorative coin series more out of habit, and have cut back on the Proof sets to the silver sets only.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Coin looks really nice in the pic. Not sure the premium is worth it but it appears to be a beautiful coin.

Looks like an April fools joke to me. I don't like it what so ever. A REALLY bad joke :s

There is numismatic precedent for the large-sized crown of stars. See the Standard Silver patterns --- here's a half dollar from 1869 (image courtesy of Stack's Bowers Galleries).

Nice looking coin, minus the lobster claw.

Like most modern gold coins... I'd buy it for spot price and nothing more.

Maybe-This-Is-Old-News: I just learned there'll be a silver medal too.

The info is buried here. It says: "To commemorate the 225th Anniversary of its founding, the Mint will issue 24-karat gold coins and corresponding .999 fine silver medals depicting a contemporary design of Lady Liberty and an eagle."

I'd love to see the USMint produce a top-quality HIGH RELIEF Proof silver medal. Too difficult? Perth Mint does it all the time:

And it's curved too -- shallow in the middle, steeper towards the edges.

Would definitely be in for the silver version. Is obverse the same?

Wow, I saw these at Baltimore yesterday and was impressed as the gold looked IMO much better in person and actually quite striking (ha! Love the pun?) - hey, its gold after all! The silver is something that I would like to get as well and maybe a couple of gifts from them as well. Really the haters need to relax as it certainly is worlds more attractive than the ?Father John's Boys Club gold comm (LOL).

At first glance I thought the lower pic was a reverse proof gold but I see now that it's the silver medal. I think a gold reverse proof would look nice.

Regardless of the mintage limit or the number of sold I will get a few to keep for the collection.
The flip is too much of a gamble.
Those salad days of 2006-2009 (and a few Mint gifts after) were an anomaly. .

I saw this at the mint display at Long Beach a couple months ago. It looks nicer in person than in the early images. I was a huge critic of the design before. Now I'm lukewarm. I'm sure if I ever really need one there will be plenty around.

If the premium weren't so high I think I could encourage people who might like a ground breaker to go in,,, but that premium....

USM049894XX Again in and out like Tuesday. Certain this won't be a 2 minute sell out.

Went back and forth in my head about buying this one. Guess I'm just weak.

Those going for the full set since these liberty medals will be an annual series will need to pick up the silvers

    you don't

so you are crazy for thinking you are crazy.

a certain private minter has been releasing several interesting items lately and I seem to have threats of leg breakings by Mrs. Pain and Agony should I go deeper. Although I would flip these if I thought they would flip. I think there would be more true collecting interest at maybe $100 less. I also think that their "depictions" so far have made it look like a bland issue. but the photos of the real thing look world's better. This may be a slow growing flower as people get wind that it's actually mostly well executed. (I wonder how many else will notice the star and tail feathers)

I live in DC and remember about 25 years or so ago, they lifted the statue of freedom from atop the capital dome and rested her in Capital park as they restored her. I remember walking by and gawking (The statue is huge). I noticed the headband and tried to figure out if that was it or was it something I ate or drank.
During my stop in Baltimore, I saw her and her silver sisters on the turntable. The coin seems huge, The light play was very appealing obverse and reverse. I immediately thought of that 4-coin slab. Put money in the bank last night and charged her at 12:04, no regrets I remember those who balked at the 2009 UHR premium, (one of my best mint buys at issue price) they're not bullion, I think she'll do fine the fewer the better.
