Both are 1957's "B" Reverse Except, yours is a lot prettier with that " Bullseye Rainbow". Would any agree that my 57's both seem to be rotated? or at least the toned one, no?

Great color on that 1953-D! You are correct, the 1953-D US Mint cardboards in the mint sets did not produce stellar coins, but that one is really nice.

I think they're just bad pictures and when properly photographed will explode with color. My guess is it will be similar to erwindoc's coin above.

That's One Nice Colorful Type B . Also a nice Proof Rob and I agree some ebay pictures are worth the Chance. I picked off this 58 d because It looked like the D/D not yet listed in the CPG.

The seller left me feedback saying what a great eye I had for toning lol. Just got the coin this morning and really surprised at the difference from his pictures to the coin in hand and it is the d/d. Wish I could take pictures............

Nah, don't think I have close-ups. Sold the '64 SMS pieces I had in inventory a year or so ago. And yes, they are quite rare. They are key pieces for modern set collectors, though a large fraction are not even aware of them. About two dozen sets were produced as trials for the '65 SMS production in early 1965 using leftover unused dies from the previous year.

Not a high grade for a common date but I like the toning and die polishing.

Here is one that might look like it has essentially no color, but the rims burst with what I consider true rainbow. It is in an OGH and these were sometimes produced with a plastic that caused a grain pattern upon imaging, which this coin shows slightly. The toning is primarily on the obverse near the date and LIBERTY, but the reverse is speckled throughout the lettering, as well.

I like coins like this one. In the 1990s one could find these with little or no premium attached, but they are nigh impossible to find today regardless of one's willingness to pay a premium.

My basic philosophy is that I'm willing to buy the occasional AT coin if the coin is a common coin, IMO it is attractive and I don't have to pay a significant toning premium. This one follows fits the parameters, as there were over 700 million 1964-D made, technically I'd grade it a 64+ and it cost me $10.
