The Trueview didn't do this one any favors. It really made it look much more splotchy than when viewed in hand.
In hand it's lustrous with great perimeter toning.
I submitted it hoping for a 66 but came back 65.

Nice! I was just at a Show, searching my hardest to find exactly what you have there, but to no avail. Oh well, I guess I just have to admire yours instead. Here's what I picked up today. A 1971 Proof. I'm hoping it'll Cameo or maybe even DCAM?
Here are better shots, I hope?

Thanks Sparky! I found them in all the normal places... B&M, coin shows, eBay, auctions via major auction houses, and members of my local coin club. Actually, someone over on the Coin Talk boards JUST commented about my Washingtons too, and here's what I wrote...
.
.
.
I have literally hundreds of Washingtons. The VAST majority were minted in 1940 - 1964. I'd say about 1/4 are slabbed with around 70% of the slabbed coins being MS66 (ALL my slabbed coins are 1940 - 1964, although I have cracked out a few 1932 - 1939 Washingtons for the Dansco, most of which were AU). Maybe 10% of the slabbed coins are MS65, while around 20% are MS67. I've got a slabbed Registry set, and 3 toner Dansco albums, that I've split up into A, B and C toning. I've also got a fair amount of "overage" after the 3 Danscos. The A Dansco has Washingtons from 1932 - 1985, while the other two Danscos are almost exclusively 1940 - 1964.
Of the raw coins most are in the MS63 - MS65 range. The thing I like about Washingtons is that once you get away from the 1932 - 1939 timeframe they are reasonably inexpensive, particularly the raw ones. Let's say I have 200 raw coins, roughly 15% of them (1965 - 1985 clad) cost $1 OR LESS, and essentially all are MS62 or better IMO. Starting around $4 you can get BU silver Washingtons. Roughly 40% of the raw Washingtons I own cost $4 - $20. Remember also, we're talking toned Washingtons, which are SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult to find than white ones of the same date/mm.
Actually, with this thread I keep a list of what I've posted, and every time I post, I add the latest Washie to the list so I don't repeat them... well at least for 8 months or so, posting one a day...

Nice coins everyone, Skyman I think if I had some of your WQ's I would be broke sending most of those in. Next time you see this coin it will be in a PCGS slab and will be Only the 3rd coin Graded for this Variety. Heading to my local dealer today for a Crack out Party................Enjoy Tom
Cool Bicentennial! Back when these were released, I nearly went broke saving every single one I received in change. My guess is that a lot of other tween and teen boys did the same.
Love the color on that 1980, SkyMan and that 1956 has the prototypical color of blue, though lighter in shade, which these mint sets are known for, Kccoin.
Bought this coin mannnnnny years ago on the previous version of these boards from a member who may not post here anymore. It is in an OGH and he liked to call it his "clown coin". I like the fact that it has pleasing color and that color is rather unusual for this year-
It's really interesting that you would post this 1961-D. In my opinion and experience, these 1960-era WQs don't possess the same surface characteristics that even the 1956-1958 WQs possess in terms of how the silver surfaces appear even when untoned. I don't know how to explain it other than they look like entirely different coins to me. This becomes exaggerated by the lack of double mint sets beginning in 1959 and the associated change in toning. Did that make sense to anyone? It has always bothered me a bit.
Wow what a fantastic thread! Thanks to all for contributing!
1979 Proof from grandma/grandpa
One of the last few quarters my dad left me. I really hope you ladies and gents can see it. It's a gentle purple-blue on the obverse and straight bronze on the reverse.
Azurescens, that 1962 is a b reverse. While it's difficult to tell from the pics, it looks like it could be a high grade. I am assuming the marks on the obverse are on the cellophane, not the coin. If it is a high grade, that coin might be worth a nice premium.

Is the 1962 a proof? If so, it should have a Type B reverse. To me, it looks like a proof coin, but perhaps it isn't.
Great color on that obverse, SkyMan. You would really do a number on folks if you merged the images for the colorfully toned obverse and reverse and asked the board what they thought of the new coin you picked up!
Nice Coins Everyone, I truly love All of those toners. Picked up 4 new ones and of course there all Varieties. Here is the first one Top Pop with 4 Others............
While I'm as big of a fan of toners as anyone else, I do like to sprinkle in really nice white examples, here and there.
Surprisingly only 26 graded higher with MS67 being the highest.
