Wow, that '13 S 25C is a great looking coin!!

I had a box from PCGS delivered yesterday, 6 NGC slabbed Liberty 5C crossovers. All 6 crossed, 5 at the same grade. The '96 MS 64 crossed as a 63; it was in an old fat NGC slab. I've found the older NGC slabs have a tendency to be over graded compared to the more recent material. A couple of highlights:

An 1894; was in a NGC 63 now in a PCGS MS 63:

This coin has an interesting error on the reverse at "CENTS". There's a depression in the planchet, likely from a lamination that fell out. The interesting thing is how the "E" spans the crevice. I'm still trying to figure this one out.

Another nice coin from the crossovers is a 1912. It was NGC 65, now PCGS 65:

I like the colorful toning on this one.

Valente151 sent me a quick iPhone image of this Half while he was assisting Glenn at Long Beach last week.
I have a great coin already of this date [ 1899 ] and had NO intentions of replacing it - and I still don't want
to replace it. But the other day - I got in touch with Glenn and mentioned I wanted this coin - regardless.

The REVERSE reminds me of Fire and Ice.

I only have a couple halfs at the house. I couldn't find any with the clash. Even if they did have it, probably too much dirt to see it anyways.

The coin I remember was a 95-S! If I sold it I probably have pics...but that would be in my last computer's harddrive that takes hours to search! It was an AU...perhaps it is my 58 in the bank....if I remember next time I go to the bank I will look.

If anyone who is a regular of this thread isn't a member of the Barber Coin Collector's Society (BCCS), now would be the time to consider membership. A new set of officers, led by John Frost, is now in place and the latest issue of the club's quarterly journal is just out. It is on high quality paper, with interesting articles by Tom Bush, Dave Earp, Bob Duzan, Marc Banks, Bryan Reger and John Frost. The BCCS maintains a website at www.BarberCoins.org, which has a wealth of information. (If I could get the link to work, I'd have put it here).

A new addition to my set purchased at the Heritage Long Beach Auction, a 1901 O PCGS AU 55 50C:

This is a tough date that doesn't come cheap. It replaces a PC 53 in my current set- not much of an upgrade, but I'm inching my way up.

Another new addition arrived in the mail yesterday, this time an 1886 Liberty Nickel- PCGS AU 53:

This is one of the "Big Three" tough dates for the series. Nice AU coins are very tough to find in this date; I felt vey fortunate to find it.

Vern - I had a problem as well with Photobucket. I logged off and back on and it's fine now.

Jeff - that 1886 looks much nicer than a 53. My ex: PCI 53 cross to PCGS 58, doesn't look as nice !!

....the 01-O Half is right on the mark, a solid 55 and a nice one at that !!

Darrell - Now, I have to go on Liz's site and see what you are talking about.

Don't all jump at once... There is a 1896-S Quarter in PCGS 53 available as I type this.
For those who have CoinPlex - one was offered to a friend this morning at what I considered
a very fair price. I just don't have those funds available at the moment. Otherwise, all you'd see
is the images !! LOL

I did however have a nice chat with Tom Smith up in NY. Last night, I spotted a tough coin in AU, a 1909-S
also an AU 53. I left him a voice mail around 8:00 and sure enough, he called me this morning. We agreed
on a price, and I sent him funds - I expect the coin mi'd week, next.

Images are terrible, but Valente151 will take care of that.

I had a bit of a laugh, while I was getting these images into my lap top - I discovered that I used to have the same date in the same grade before !!
That must have been 15 years ago - as all I remember are MS coins of that date ! So, if anyone else has a 1909-S in PCGS AU 53 { Lenny ? } with this
serial number: 24443239 - you'll know where its been before !!

A beautiful new pickup! Tom doesn't take great photos, but he's a great guy.

I agree the the '86 5C looks much nicer than a AU 53- I really don't see any wear on it. It was just recently graded, however- it's in the brand new holder. It seems like a good cantidate for reconsideration some time.

They have grading weeks once a quarter which I try and submit to so the turn around can be days depending on when you submit. Otherwise, regardless of tier it is about 2-3 weeks otherwise.

What is nice is that you can submit US and World coins on one submission since I guess they are all world coins unless your are French.

The bugger is that they only accept courier service which runs about 100 euro and the grading fees are higher at about 45 euro. I had a very tough gold coin to submit so I packaged several others with it. The gold coin went 62 which is a five figure profit from the price I paid in eastern europe. The 94-S 50c however is the one I will keep.

I really enjoyed the new BCCS Journal. The new paper quality is a turn for the good. I was curious if it would change once John Frost took the helm. The articles were a great read. I really liked Tom's article on the 97-S Center MM's.

Justin nailed it, it's a dealers only site. You need to pay a fee
to join. A friend who is a major collector belongs; he sent me
the notice that 96-S in AU was available.

I thought possibly others might have access.

I have borrowed the sign on from a dealer friend
once or twice. It's wholesale - and I can't buy on
that site. Only dealers can. Or those with an account.

BTW, there were no images of the 96-S.

Did anyone else notice at the Barber Half Everyman's Registry set there was a significant move yesterday? Cornhusker lept from the 6 slot to the 3 slot! It looks like he needs 2 more '58's for the perfect set!

Nice 15-S Half, Lenny. Very colorful.

I agree with Labelman87 - that 13-S is pristine;
far nicer than the ones I have seen in the past.
Problem with a coin like that, unless all your coins
look like that in your Quarter set, that coin will make
the rest of the set look like (as Laura likes to say ) Dreck.

I listened to a friend who frequents Stacks / Bowers'
Internet Only Weekly Auctions. Last night I picked up
a 1914 Phila Quarter :

Jeff - Checked out the barber half registry, wow, there sure is some tight competition at the top.

Craig - Dan bought that 13-S at the Heritage auction (Cincinnati, I think), that also had the only 13-S in MS68 as the next lot. The MS68 paled in comparison.

Well coinhusker in my opinion is a true collector. I haven't talked with him in a long time....but...if he wanted the top spot he could probably plug in a couple of Vg's or F's for the 2 he needs and take the top barber half everyman set! Perhaps he didn't realize the boost from a completed set? I don't know. I wish I could snag some of the coins he has. I suspect he has the majority(probably all) of the 58+'s that were in the bluevalley set.

Darrell - IMO, the only reason there are plus grades is so the machine can print money faster.
