I have images posted recently. Pretty happy about this - not so much the 1899 Quarter - but, considering they turned away the 96 & 02 Dimes before, I'm thrilled to finally get them both in a PCGS holder.
Newer images forthcoming.

Justin - Congrats on the beautiful 01-O. IMO in the top 5 for toughest in original, no problem VF/XF.
Jeff - Great look on your '97. V nicks may be easier than barbers, but it's still not a matter of just opening one's wallet to get nice ones. Nice find.
Mike - Batting .750 is great. And if you send the '99 qtr in again it's liable to make 65.

Vern l It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got.
Mike, Congrats on the crosses. I'd take 3 out of four every time. Quick story for you...In 3rd grade I took my penny collection to school to show my friend. A nun confiscated it. I thought I'd get it back after class. Instead I found my some of my pennies in the change from my milk money.
The nerve of the woman. We had a coin club in the 8th grade - and one day a week - at the end of the day - we were given an hour to discuss coins - there were 8 boys and 20 girls in the class...all the boys collected [ and, as I was the new kid who transferred in, I had to try and fit in. ] My collection was also Lincoln cents found in change and I was a newb - and was very impressed with the stuff my new friends had collected.
Here are my three Dime Cross Overs
1894-P - ANACS 58 = PCGS 58
1896-P - NGC 55 = PCGS 55
1902-P - NGC 55 = PCGS 55
I didn't get a Tru View of the Quarter - I'm having it professionally imaged later next month.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
My two examples of David Carr's 1916 Barber half came yesterday. They are beautiful. I have to figure out a holder to put them in. If only real Barber halves were as nice as this one in terms of strike, luster and lack of marks. It's a 68 or 69 coin. Really nice work.

I ordered one as well- they look too nice to pass up. I wonder if I can order a fake PCGS holder to put it in?
My ability to post images here evaporated years ago when they changed it from a few step process to the 10-15 step process it became : ( However, MFH is getting an example and he knows how to post pics. I also saw an example posted elsewhere on the message boards, and if you go to the Moonlight mint website there are pictures from Daniel Carr. Going to the website where you can order from, may be the fastest way to see a picture.
Vern- Great looking '16 Quarter. That's the look I like in a 58.
Dr. Pete- Posting photos is actually quite simple. Feel free to send me a PM if you want a walkthrough. I'll post a photo of my '16 Half when it arrives in a few days.
Speaking of AU 58's I had 3 of them come through the PCGS grading room today. I'll post photos when I get them back; hopefully Saturday.
I'll have to wait to post my images until my friend takes the snaps. It took me what seems to have been a lifetime - to be able to post images. I used to send a friend, Dave Batterberry, my images in a smaller format - where I would store them at PCGS. Too many steps were involved - advice suggesting PhotoBucket was the best advice.
It's so easy now, even this old man can do it.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
I use Dropbox. I've never had an issue and all my photos are on all of my computers, tablets, and phones (with or w/o internet) automatically. Downsizing the images for publication is a pain in the rear end step, but I've gotten used to it.
The lines in the field of the '83 Nickel are absolutely die polish lines, but the question is whether a grader will take time to figure it out or just call it cleaned. There are no lines in the devices- just in the field.
Great, I finally find a choice AU 1897-O Half and its a fake !! You really have to be familiar with US coins to realize these are actually fakes. They are getting better, the dog from the other day still has be chuckling.
Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
Although there are many tells on those fakes, I've noticed that they can never get the stars or date right. I would think that would be the easy part. Or maybe it's just the easiest part for me to notice.
Although I had a 1907 AU 58 half in my set I was never a fan of it. I originally purchased the coin raw many years ago for a decent price and it stuck with me. A few months ago I was fortunate enough to find another nice raw 1907 half that had a much nicer look (for me). I sent it to PCGS; it came back as an AU 58:
I'm sure it's a little too white for most, but it works for me.
Jeff, I like it. I personally prefer my 58's with Morgan Dollar luster(lusterous blast white) or soft pastels with good luster...don't like em with too much toning!
Here's a couple of shots I did today of the 1893-O Quarter with what seems to be a repunched mintmark. Showed it to a few, including Glenn Holsonbake, at the Barber Collectors meeting/dinner at the Long Beach show on Thursday evening and all agreed that it was probably an RPM. Certainly NOT strike doubling. Pretty neat!
We all like nice coins - and I would love to see exactly what the look of your set actually is, Darrell. So, please open up your best set. Don't concern yourself that there is another set a smiggin higher- no one cares. We just want to enjoy your set.
My paltry set will be imaged next month and I will attach these new images to my set; I will also have a mini slide show on this Forum as well.
We all have preferences - I enjoy a variety of looks - it gives the collection character. I have been following Jeff's collection closely over the last couple of years and he has taken a number of chances and has won some and, he has lost some. In each Newp he has shown us, I have usually agreed with the grade on the holder.
Quite a few of us have been terribly wrong on guessing his grades. I now know why, some are looking for an MS 66 with a luster break dragging it down to AU 58. Those coins just don't exist and should they, only someone in the main stream of this hobby ever get to see these.
A dealer friend had another friend of mine assisting him this weekend at the Long Beach, and every so often, my friend would send me a text with some NEWPS - one in particular was a PCGS 58 Half Dollar that had a pleasing OBV - lustrous just not flawlessly pristine. The REV was an explosion of magenta, reds and blues and underlying golden luster ! Just an amazing coin.... it's too bad that it was so spectacular that it would have out shined the coins surrounding it in my Eagle album.
These past few months, another collector friend, SROTAG, has exposed me to higher graded Barbers ( all denominations ) and it's been a great experience. He has been upgrading his collection and he and I have been selecting his old coins for Reconsideration - Regrade - and CAC approval. Recently, he and I disected the collection offered by our good friend "Finally Here" .... We selected close to a dozen coins to upgrade his Half Dollar collection. As there were Want Lists in play by previous customers, we were indeed fortunate to have a half dozen coins set aside for SROTAG. Each coin is a marvel. Each coin actually is a bit different from the next. Some are an explosion of toning - some light toned - some rim toned - but each a superb Gem.

Mike Hayes ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
This is a hobby and should be all about fun. I believe the "competition" in the Registry should be accepted as friendly. This is not Wall Street; we shouldn't be out to profit at other's expense but to show our collection and have fun. There is no financial prize or significant award for being on top; the chase is the prize and the reward comes from within. My set will never be "closed" to the Public; not because I want to "show off" (I'll never compete with the Big Dogs), but because I believe the spirit of the Registry is to allow the community to view and appreciate the beautiful and diverse coins that exist in a series.
I have yet to sense that any seller would deny me just because my collection might advance. I know, I'm just a "puppy", but come on- shouldn't we all be trying to help each other rather than trying to advance our own turf?
My take on the registry is I don't care what place I'm in or what anyone else has or doesn't have, whether they want to show or not, whether they want to compete or not, I really don't care. I like my coins and enjoy the hobby with my friends. Nothing else means a darn thing. The day I start thinking about all that stuff is the day I sell my collection. In fact, when it comes to registry, I help others a lot more than I help myself.
Good points... Don't take the Registry stuff all that seriously. Also, collect what you like and / or afford. Case in point, I'd like to have been serious competition in the Gardner collection ...lol... I just couldn't afford much of anything. All I can do is applaud the efforts to get a set of that high a caliber ...
I not only enjoy my coins - but I enjoy the sets that have grown in rank from 52 to the single digits. Images actually are the nicest way to view an on line collection.
Otherwise, why bother having them listed for public scrutiny. These thoughts have been with me since I blocked my sets for various reasons ( that I have discussed before ).
Someone I used to know said : If it ain't fun, don't bother. This is the same person who stiffed me on that Mercury Dime Varieties Fiasco.
As long as I am having fun - and no one puts a damper on my fun - I'll be okay. It's great having the commaraderie (sic) of fellow Barber collectors.
Didn't mean for my posts to come off as being too heavy.
Happy Hunting !!
