    A VF20 1874-S with a nice reverse, IMO.

    Ten years later...Yowza! Look at the mintmark placement. This is the second known 1874-S WB-4. PCGS attributed it properly, along with the WB-3 I sent in for comparative purposes, and graded it at F15.

    Gotthebug, Congrats on your nice original half.

    No halves for me, but I found a bunch of quarters at FUN (47, killer 62-S, killer 60-O, 73-S.) They'll be photographed by Barberkeys and posted soon. BTW, worth going to the barber megathread part 3 and seeing Vern's pix, and many of the others as well. Lots of nice coins there.

    Thanks barberkeys, Paesan, MFH, and others for the kind words. Almost all of these coins were purchased raw off Ebay. I had to return quite a few that had problems as well.

    My newest Seated half...PCGS62 The 1858 is about the most common Seated half date there is, but the look and story won me over. I generally buy XF-AU coins, but if I can get a really nice looking MS62-64 with great eye appeal, the little extra cost is worth it for common dates. Plus, there ain't no bragging rights for an XF or AU 1858 half generally. Lately, it seems I have been finding quite a few really nice 62-63 uncs. Usually, they are pretty banged up, but pretty toning covers up a lot of it. image

    This coin supposedly came out of a long time collection. The seller sent me along with the coin, the small manila flip used to store the coin along with the coin's original purchase price to the buyer. The seller probably realized a 1,000 per cent price increase. If I hold this coin 20 years, I might be lucky to see a 30% bump.

    Tyler's '58 half is gorgeous and inspired me to look for some halves at the San Jose show this morning.
    I know the quarter series but really don't have any focal point with the .50's.
    I mused around the tables at some mid-grade and AU stuff and kinda got bit by this ultra common type piece. Most everything in the series is type compared with the nasty-tough quarters. I'd have loved to find a '52P half in VF but I felt good about coming home with this. At least it'll enamour me of the series while I get my bearings.

    Keeping it rolling...Here's an 1840 reverse of 38 that I got off Ebay (listed as just an 1840). A little rim damage, but I think it's OK.




    Now graded at VF20.


    Edited to restore photos and add TrueView.
