oh yeah this was great, he ripped the "super pack" that had too many cards, all of the stars from 88 fleer. Then he went and hid when someone noticed

I have only been on this board for a few years (I lurked for a year or two before joining), but this one is definitely in my all-time top 5.

    Maybe top 3.

I just opened a 1975 baseball pack and here is what I got:

    Nolan Ryan
    Nolan Ryan
    Robin Yount
    George Brett
    Hank Aaron
    Hank Aaron
    Pete Rose
    Rookie Catchers(Carter,Hill,Meyer,Roberts)
    Bob Gibson
    Johnny Bench
    Rookie Outfielders(Rice,Scott,Augustine and Mangual)

    And card # 513....D.Pole

All of these are pack fresh, 50/50 to maybe 55/45 at worst centering except for the Pole which is probably miscut(Gosh I hate when a Pole is miscut! Anyway....I don't have a scanner, so I can't post any of the cards, sorry. Good luck on your collections! image

This makes me think there should be a weekly post like Saturday Raw scan day that brings back a great oldie post, like this 88 Pack Rip. The ones that didn't go *poof*.
Kiss me once, shame on you.

A bump is long overdue. In fact, this thread should be bumped every 6 months for posterity. I'm going to put it on my google calendar notifications.

I couldn't agree more. Where's the accompanying thread where you pulled like an '87 Jordan and an '85 Rowdy Roddy Piper out of the same pack? That was one hell of a wax bust, as I recall.

Did the OP ever reply and try to change the story?

This thread was more entertaining than Miley Cyrus twerking on the VMAs, especially with gems like this:

Bobby, I'm asking you man to man that you don't turn this thread into a typical Bobbyw dumpsterfire. There are some threads that should be sacred and not be sullied by the ramblings of a crazy person with no sense of humor or ability to detect sarcasm who takes every comment in the forums as a personal attack. I beg that you please allow this glorious thread to stand on its own original merits. Thank you.

I apoligize, but I am not a bot. Shall I do like StormTrooper and create a nice little ALT I can hide behind to create havoc and mischief??? Please let me know so I can work on that ASAP! Thank you!

PS - I was sincere about ripping up my opened 1988 Fleer Basketball Wax. I think your anger seems to be misdirected. Why don't you focus more on StormTrooper rather than me Lee???? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm????

I don't know if he stopped posting immediately after this thread, but he definitely wasn't around for a whole lot longer.

I do agree that the thread is wonderful. A CU hall-of-famer for sure.

This thread has a partner thread, in which the primary conflict is over the legitimacy of a Mantle auto. And I think there's also a third, which centers around some kind of Babe Ruth watch.

Taken in sum, these represent--in my view- the godhead of CU threads. MMYNC has had his share of rivals over the years, but on a sheer word-for-word basis no poster has ever given these board so much.

Yup, every time I read these old epic threads, they always remind me of how many solid contributors have left over the years. image

Last login was October 2010, so he stuck around for quite a while, but didn't post nearly as often after the threads highlighted here I think.

At least he knew when he was busted! Although think how much epic-er this thread could have been had he taken the approach he did with the Mantle auto!

Thanks - was thinking about this the other day.

I am always hopeful someone will do a high profile rip of some vintage pack and include an 88-89 Jordan, or better yet Joe Kleine, in the scans.
