Im confused. Are the mini inserts a parallel? Does each of the 500 cards have one? I take it the Venez are also a parallel and every card has one?

looks like the minis are mostly just the high numbers.

edit: not sure on the Venezuelans - they weren't part of the announced checklist.

Eric, I responded over on FCB with the same thing...

I think one thing to consider is that by 1964 the card stock had also changed. It's possible that Topps is trying to mirror the card stock progression from their early years into the 60s. I took my 1956 Dodgers team set of 24 cards and pulled the first 24 cards of my 1964 Dodgers set. As you can see, there is a noticeable difference between the two.

    image

Now granted, I have some doubts about whether the monkeys at Topps stopped to consider this - they probably are just trying to increase profit margin by using a thinner stock. I'm sure they think the lemmings will buy anything they put out when it's got Heritage slapped on it.

interesting point. havnt seen it on FCB, but will reply here as its more appropriate.

2012 MiLB was printed on the "bad" card stock, and issued (printed) after 2012 Topps Heritage MLB Baseball.
Then they put out the 2012 Heritage Hi # Set, and that too was printed on very poor paper stock.

i called them out on it after it was released. they assured us that the issue would be resolved for 2013 Topps Heritage.

    Obviously they didnt fix it.

Such a damn shame that i cannot enjoy opening the ONE f'n baseball card product that still interests me.

Weren't they green last year? Do they sell, sell well, or have any collectors?

Wasn't sure what the pricing on those were? Are they the hobby version of the red and blue borders? The new watered down "hot box" concept.

    parkerjparkerj Posts: 1,098 ✭✭✭
Green was last year. They didn't sell particularly well last year....maybe a buck or two a piece they can be had for. Thats typical for heritage refractors and chromes, unless it is a superstar. We don't really know the print run, like we do on normal refs / chromes, as they are unnumbered.

These purples (and 2011 greens) are chrome refractor cards....the reds/blues are normal stock, normal cards, with just different coloring.

anyone doing the purple set? I hit another purple hot box, but got most of the same cards, so I have doubles.

    Thanks for the info.

I wasn't sure if Topps was considering these hobby "exclusives" in the similar sense of the red "Target Exclusives".....

Wish they included all the SSPs in one "Hot box" per case... (like the ones that were popping up a few years back)

would water down the price tag on them..., but that would be an exciting box to open...

I guess they are trying it with the Purple refractors......

I just see them as 24 chromes, another sub set that I won't chase to complete,

What is the trade value of the Green / Purple chrome?

    An SP? Two SPs?

It's got to be worth more than a News Flashback, though, right?

    WaltWalt Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭
24 per case, so they are half as good as regular chromes in trade value.

My head is spinning from all of these additional chromes/subsets/variations above and beyond the classic Heritage program from years past.

When will it get totally out of control for the completest..or has it already happened?
  • Options
    WaltWalt Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭
topps needed to mix thing up, they had lost many heritage collectors over the past 3 years, I don't know if this helped or not.
  • Options
    TNP777TNP777 Posts: 5,711 ✭✭✭
John, for me it happened a couple of years ago with the addition of the high number sets, high number chrome, and the increase of SSPs.

I love to see what others have ripped, but as far as I'm concerned I'm only in for a Dodgers set.
  • Options
    WaltWalt Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭
yeah I gotta say watering down the chrome sets in heritage really turned off a lot of collectors.
  • Options
    BasiloneBasilone Posts: 2,492 ✭✭
I was into Heritage as much as anyone over the years but as a completest it has become too much...especially via busting packs.

The days of collecting everything except the cut sigs are OVER.

I agree with a lot of what's posted above. Last year was my last. The color swaps and image swaps were just too difficult to pull, and too expensive to buy individually. I did all the inserts, and the 100 card chrome set. And bought the High Number set. Good way to go out I guess.

My Heirtage collection has changed quite a bit over the years.

I started out like most of you, collecting master sets. But as the super short prints began to come out in 2009 I realized that the set was going to be very expensive and what I was ending up with was not going to justify the price.

So now I still bust a Hobby case + every year but I usually sell/trade the singles to get the Heritage cards that I really want (mainly high end Giants stuff)

One thing has remained the same, I like the product and I think it is fun to collect. I wish people complained less and just collected what they liked. It would make life a lot more enjoyable.

Nice pull. You can actually pick up the original Beatles cards for some what reasonable price. Couple bucks a card. Unless there is something special about this one. I have a hand full left I sold about 40 of them in a lot around 2005.

Dang Heritage suckered me in again this year! Took all the money I made from my Turkey Red sales and bought a 1/2 case today! I really wasn't expecting to get any SP duplicates, but sure enough, I got a full box worth image

I haven't sorted yet, but I'll assume I was able to put together a complete base set (1-425)... but it is Topps, so who knows!!!

Looking to buy/trade for my SP needs

    Need: 428, 429, 430, 434, 436, 438, 439, 440, 442, 443, 448, 451, 453, 456, 457, 458, 459, 460, 461, 465, 467, 468, 471, 472, 476, 477, 481, 483, 484, 486, 489, 491, 492, 493, 494, 500
    Have: 432, 444, 454, 463, 473, 473, 474, 498

Now, with that out of the way... on to my HITS!!!

I know the put more auto's in this year, but 2 hits in 6 boxes... a personal Heritage best!

    image

Wow... 5 In Action SP Variations in 6 boxes... maybe this is normal (Only plan to keep the Trout)

I wonder how scarce these image variations are going to be. Did they appear on the odds list? Five in six boxes isn't that scarce, but still scarce enough to command a premium.

If I'm counting correctly, the high-numbered players potentially have quite a few variations...

    Matt Kemp:
    base
    blue border (Wal-Mart)
    color variation (unknown print run)
    action variation (unknown print run)
    Venzuelan black black
    mini /100
    chrome /999
    refractor /564
    black refractor /64
    gold /5
    purple refractor

edit: I did a little surfing and came up with images for everything but the /5 gold refractor. I'm beyond glad I got out of the master set game.
