Potentially stupid question... but blowouts checklist doesn't have the base cards in the PDF and I can't access eBay from work...

Is there a card #7 in the Heritage set this year?

I know that Topps retired that number in the base Topps product, but there was a #7 in Turkey Red... I've sorted my first 100 and the last 100 of the set this year from my ripping, and it's the only base card I'm missing (so far).

I think card #7 is the NL batting leaders card with Posey, McCutchen, and Braun.

    << <i>Yes, there is a #7. >>

Thanks... six boxes and missing a base card... well, that's Topps for ya!

Good chance it will be in the next box, if not, definitely the one after that.

    Box 11-12:

    image

This case started off hot but fizzled pretty quickly.
  • box topper question. on the giant size/ like the 1964 edition, someone selling a willie mays, no autograph, said this card is limited to 64 cards. is this the case? thanks for the help.
  • Mick65Mick65 Posts: 722 ✭✭✭

Red Auto, Blue Auto and Gold relic.

I guess the Gold Relic qualifies as the big case hit for that one-

  • WaltWalt Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭
gold relics are not big hits. I pulled one from a blaster. The more I see opened the more I realize that topps really didn't add in any extra value. Some guys pulling one autograph in their
cases and others are hitting 3. Some guy pulls 3 Venzs from a few blasters yet a hobby case only gets you 6. Frustrating to collect once again.

and as far as print runs, topps doesn't release and so anything is speculation at this point.

  • Mick65Mick65 Posts: 722 ✭✭✭

I'm just trying to set my expectations

The minis seem like a cheap substitute for the framed stamps.

Back when these were the regular issue, topps used to maintain the quality and maybe raise the pack price a $0.05.

Seems like they don't feel justified raising prices, so they work with other side of the margin.

    Still fun...

reading this thread made me get off the couch.....went to local target and purchased 4 blasters......ripping to follow shortly.....one quick question, as far as number of cards per pack/box what is best one cost wise??? The target had the 19.99 blasters with 72 cards, 5.99 racks with 20 cards and nine card individual packs for 2.99...so there the blaster gave you the most cards, do bigger boxes have more bang for buck???

Busted 3 blasters and 6 racks. Got an auto of an old guy I've never heard of (Tigers), a /99 gold relic of a new guy I've never heard of (Rockies), one Venezuelan (Torii Hunter), and a couple of refractors and such. No minis, Senators, or In Action (that I noticed).
2.5 is pretty much my speed.
  • WaltWalt Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭
    GO CORY!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't suggest racks because they can be searched. Blasters don't give the greatest odds, but are safe and I have seen some nice cards pop out of blasters.

Thanks Walt! Sorry about the double post, was on my phone. Box 1 kind of odd. Only one chrome. I dont know the varations / SSP by heart yet so I applogize if I bore anyone. Guessing the Jeters are just a varation?

nice pull on the Jeter. Craig from Ohio is doing the chromes. Jim is doing purples if you pull any of those.
  • alnavmanalnavman Posts: 4,129 ✭✭✭
opened all four blasters and the last one was a bonanza of refractors. Received a R.A. Dickey silver refractor numbered to564 and eight purple refractors Curtis Granderson, Adam LaRoche, Yoenis Cespedes, Giancarlo Stanton, Matt Holiday, Josh Reddick, Hunter Pence and Oriles Rookie stars Manny Machado and Dylan Bundy. Overall I got eighteen other inserts:
two clubhouse collection Shaun Marcum and Carlos Martinez
four then and now Marichal/Gonzalez, Bunning/Verlander Brooks Robinson/Cabrera and Ford/Hernandez
three Memorable Moments Cabrera achieves triple crown, Dickey pitches b t b 1 hitters and Harper 3rd teen with 2 multi-hr games
four new age peformers, Cano, Harper, Gonzalez and Pujols
two baseball flashbacks Ernie Banks eight run eruption and Pirates/Mets open Shea
three new flashbacks "Stones" roll to instant stardom, Jeopardy turns trivia into TV and fairgoes invade big apple

the one red per box were Jose Bautista, Jaqcoby Ellsbury and two Andrew McCutchens.

Don't know if this was normal or not but I was pleased. I may have to go out and get some more....at a different target though since I cleaned out the one nearest to me.....

After a great day of ripping & sorting with Joe and his brother Jake, here is my updated Dodgers wantlist:

    Base set: 373
    Venezuelan: 1 5 30 39 51 81 88 101 120 149 180 200 310 373 374 427 442 450 472
Variations: 200 (blue border) 450 (blue border) 472 (blue border) 450 (color)

I'm especially interested in the Venenezuelans. I'd like to stay around $1 apiece on these, but let me know if you've got something else in mind.

    Thanks!

Highlights from case 1 of 3. Actually this was case 3, but since it was my worst case I'm starting with it.

For those that want to use the code on the back to verify if you've got a variation:

    ends in 80: base card
ends in 81: base short print
    ends in 84: action variation
    ends in 89: SSP

no code needed: color variation and Venezuelan image

I'm still looking for a good back scan of the Ian Desmond SSP. The one that's up on ebay right now looks like it ends in 83, which is contrary to the other SSPs I've seen. It's a bit of a sketchy picture, so I could be mistaken.

Case 2, not too bad, especially considering the super rare overnumbered mini!
