My sympathy and condolences to his friends and family.
Though I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Carl, I recall that his contributions to the forum and the hobby were enormous, his posts were insightful and he clearly had the trust and respect of many! He surely will be missed...

I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. I never met Carl, but I did purchase two coins from him when I got back into the hobby a few years ago. I still have those coins in my collection and have always (and will always) think of him when I see them. He was a class act as a dealer and poster here.

I am very sorry to hear of Carl Wohlforth's passing. I had limited contact with him when he left me a want list, which I could not fill. Other than that I regarded him as a great numismatist and wonderfull asset to this board. He will be missed.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Wow, very sad news indeed image. I exchanged some PMs with him over the years and even bought a nicely toned Peace from him earlier this year. A true gentleman whose contributions here will be missed. My sincerest condolences to his family.

    Very sad.

I've had numerous dealings with Carl and he was always very courteous and professional. He often spoke of his daughter who was attending college.

Im very sorry to hear this.

My condolences to Carl's family for their loss. Carl was a good friend, customer, numismatist, and an upbeat guy full of energy and passion, not just for coins but for all things in life.

I was aware of his cancer but he was upbeat and never wanted to dwell on it.

    Rest in peace my friend!

Very sad to hear of Carl's passing. I never met Carl, but I always enjoyed his posts. He seemed to love learning more than anything.

His excitement was refreshing, and his posts were always so positive....I mean, how could you not like the guy?

I just reviewed his PMs to me about Barber quarter varieties. The last one was in 2004. Difficult to read.

Goes bless you Carl....you will be missed.

    RIP

  • Longtime lurker and infrequent poster. Carl was kind and trustworthy, I can say from personal experience. Not much bothers me. This news did, to a significant degree.

Condolences to Carl's family. Too many of these lately. image
  • Was fortunate to have conversed with him at the small coin forum he had going for a while. An interesting character with diverse knowledge in many areas. Prayers go out to the family.
  • I had a feeling that this news would arrive by way of this forum, and now that it has along with everyone's comments, it feels very appropriate. As many have noted, Carl was an integral and positive member of this virtual community.

I was lucky enough to have done several deals and to hang out with him once in a while in the real world. His essential decency and humanity were instantaneously recognizable, even at a glance, but I especially appreciated his monumental integrity. It suffused not only his business transactions, but from what I have seen, every aspect of his life.

Carl was a truly great man.

I'm very sad to hear about this, though not terribly surprised, as Carl had mentioned his condition to me a while back. For once, I actually got to say my goodbyes, in a way- we had a nice conversation. I'm sure Carl exited this life gracefully, just as he lived. He was a fine gentleman and a forum friend of mine since my very beginning here.

RIP, Carl. You will definitely be missed.

Very sad indeed. I purchased from Carl what I consider to be my most favorite coin. He was extremely likeable and great to deal with.
    Prost!
