Interesting that the seller notes the holder damage, I'm guessing he doesn't know. I sent him a message, we'll see what he says.

in this crowd too...
maybe oneday stuff like this will be traced and fraud charges brought forth

Just standard eBay description procedure. I'm surprised someone with so much feedback would sell something so blatantly fake.

Seems to have some serious negative feedback issues. But a "top rated" ebay seller.

Do you think it is possible that the seller does not suspect the problem? I doubt that.

"Please contact us prior to leaving negative feedback..". ? I don't own an advertising agency, but this doesn't seem like the best way to build customer confidence before the sale is complete.
A better approach might be something like :
"Look here kids, this auction is for dummies. Hurry, buy this and I will leave you positive feedback ASAP".
yea, a bunch of fakes!!
Don't buy the coin OR the holder in this case.
<< <i>So what happened to the real one? >>
The old one was probably resubmitted and slabbed.

<< <i>Amazing. How long will this one last? >>
I've complained to the proper ebay managers in charge of coins about their tardiness taking down auctions on weekends. This seems to be another case.
Disappointing. But I am sure it will be zapped by tomorrow, latest.
Lance.
I have owned three different 55 dd Lincolns and none of them looked like this coin.

<< <i>I don't think that coin is going to fool anyone other than an absolute novice, especially when parked in an obviously tampered-with holder. >>
I agree that this coin is an obvious fake and not a very good one at that but my question is, if the holder was tampered with in any way why does the tamper resistant hologram on the back still show that it is intact? I thought that was the whole point of having these holograms fused to the holders, that once it was messed with that the person could tell that it was tampered with.
But you know that this is on the level because this guy is an "Ebay top rated seller."

The entire slab is cracked at the side seam; why would you think this would impact the hologram on the back in any way?
There is no way that a seller with that large amount of feedback could NOT know what this is... unless it was an employee that did the listing. Even still, it's the owner's responsibility and inexcusable.

Don't think that one's a fake, just a slightly damaged authentic example.

Shouldn't the bottom of the "N" in "ONE" on the reverse be weak? It's not on that one.

time. If I did win I would pay and then NEG and return and get my money back.
Hmmm, come to think of it I did win one a few years ago and paid and Negged and returned
and all was just great!
Then a year or so before that I won on a fake Trade Dollar and Ebay said I could destroy it
without returning as it was from China! That seller was pissed off! Negged and sent to
Tom D for destruction (wink). Probably still sitting on his desk for to do later when I have time!

It's not difficult at all to split an NGC holder and put it back together with almost no evidence. The edges look a little rough but the sonic weld is always a little messy.
Below is are a couple of recent examples.

<< <i>Up to $3500...how high will it go??? >>
I'd like to see it go over 100k.
The fraudster needs to be taught a lesson. Ebay needs to ban them or have some sort of fraud alert tied to their account.
<< <i>It is now at $6600 makes you wonder is high bidder a newby or someone "saving" the innocent. >>
Don't be silly. It's not a newbie.
$8400......you guys are fun!
......I collect old stuff......
That might even be better than Ebay pulling it.
