Scary fake coin in real NGC holder

The entire slab is cracked at the side seam; why would you think this would impact the hologram on the back in any way? >>

Then maybe they should develop something that whenever a holder is tampered with be it the front, back, sides or whatever that clues in the clueless that it was tampered with. Not saying it's practical but something along the lines of how NGC certifies GSA dollars.

There's no shame on eBay, it's amazing the crap you see. One of our members once stated that less than one in a million coins on eBay is fake!

do people even look up these on ngc .....the coin is obviously very diferent, it even shows a diferent rotation in the holder and you can even see the different degrees of rotated dies, for starters. Look @ the coin on ebay in the holder, then look at the coin on NGC. Why are you bidding. Taht coin even isn't that grade, yet alone the damaged holder. I need to stop hanging out on these forums. You guys are actually bidding on this?

Seller emailed me after I told him the issue. He told me he had no clue the holder was fake. I replied back and clarified that the holder is real (but tampered with) and that the coin is fake. He immediately replied back and said he just contacted NGC about the problem. I did not know NGC worked on Sundays...

What you're witnessing is expert collectors and dealers well aware of the situation. They're having a little fun, that's all.

Everyone here knows the cent it bogus. This is not your run-of-the-mill chatroom.

Sometimes, we try to make sure no novice gets stuck with a fake by bidding it into oblivion. No one really intends to buy it.

I prefer to just report it. But whatever.

This thread did remind me that I had a MS red cent 55DD raw that I put in my top desk drawer 20 years ago. I no longer remember how I got it except that it was not purchased. I have no idea what came of it. Maybe I put it in a flip and it is in a box of stuff. If so it will be a discovery coin.

I just wonder if the seller takes the bids to be real (it IS possible) he might put more effort in the listing next time....maybe with no side pics...and try it on more coins that may slip through the "cracks"
