I got off the phone with them around an hour ago. I’m very unimpressed. Spoke to a clueless operator who knew nothing about the sale. She transferred me to a broker who transferred me to another broker. The broker wasn’t knowledgeable about coins and he was very pushy and annoying. He wouldn’t answer any specific questions about upcoming releases, CAC, denominations, stock photos, etc. He did tell me that 1856-S $20 were now available in PCGS 58-63. Too bad these coins are being sold by a boilerplate operation.

Before about the 1930's, in the US, salt was in salt cellars at each place setting at the table with a larger master salt cellar to fill the individual cellars. They all had tiny spoons to use to sprinkle the salt. I remember my mother telling us that, when she was little, her job was to fill the cellars before the company arrived. My sister collects salt cellars today.
the smartest people in the biz are marketing this deal (Manley and US coins). To move the biggest amounts to the masses they enlisted their telemarketers. from what i know the demand is really strong.
I personally am not a fan of the holder.
The prices are just fine. I did just buy TWO $20 MS67's (from the original group). the prices have more then held up
Hey thanks a million ( grazie mille ) for that bit of information on Salt Cellars. I've been reading up online and soon ended up on the Amazon site with White Carerra Marble Salt Dishes. And here I thought I'd need to go to Italy to get something like that.

I looked it over, the gold pinch was interesting but the coins were crazy priced and only had stock images. It looked and felt like a boiler room operation. Kagin's did so much better with the Saddle Ridge hoard, some prices were to the moon but others were better, plus it was/is a reputable firm. Universal just comes across as a slightly higher grade Pawn Stars.
I loved the exhibit, the history and Bob Evans' talk on this discovery. If this is how the treasure will get dispersed, I see lots of inventory hanging around, not getting sold.

Yes, new group, and until the_SS Central America_ coins hit the market over 20 years ago obtaining a high grade (MS-64 or better) Type I $20 gold was very difficult. The shipwreck coins were a boon to type collectors.

My gold pinches arrived today. The gold ring appears to be paper. I was hoping it was metal to be reflective like gold. The rims of the holder have a shiny gold foil going around, which is kind of neat. Would give the appearance of gold bars if you had a bunch stacked together. Overall, I like them!
Didn't realize there is more of this choice/gem shipwreck gold out there to bring up...esp. the 1857-s twenties. Increasing supplies and dwindling collector/investor base isn't a good formula.
Better values than shipwreck gold in the market today include US Mint 1 oz proof gold eagles in mint packaging for 2-3% over spot. Not much downside. And essentially no quantities from ship wrecks or overseas will show up. The mint is making very few these days....the supply of them mostly comes from the existing issues 1986-2017....about a 1.7% increase in supply per year....on par with how much gold is mined each year to add to above ground supplies (1.7-1.8%). And even at a 1.7 MILL total mintage....it's far less than BU eagles, Saints, $20 Libs, etc. And proof eagles w/packaging can go into IRA's....not so for pre-1933 US gold. And many of these have had their wrappers tossed in the quest for a PF70 grade....reducing the #'s qualifying for IRA's.
Received my pinch of gold yesterday, and I couldn't be more happy. Not only do I own a piece of history, the slab is gorgeous. The fact that they are partnered with the NRA makes it more of a pleasure to purchase from them.
$199.99 per pinch plus shipping when you can still get them for $135/$140? Quite an ebay mark-up.

I sold two at that price already. With only pcgs promoting these so far, they are easier to find on ebay. Easier to find means more people looking, and with only a couple on ebay so far, they bring higher prices.
