Thank you. After going through tens of thousands of cards during this thread, it always nice to hit one of the key RCs in the set. Good thing I still have hundreds and hundreds of boxes from the 1980s to go
My apologies for the hiatus in my daily brakes of 1980s material. Work has been crushing me lately and I have not been able to prioritize ripping packs. I will try to be better and more consistent in posting photos and brakes going forward. I hope everybody’s enjoying the start of their summer and getting outdoors. Hard to believe the National is only one month away!
Let’s rip a box of 1986 Donruss to get back on track. Here’s hoping for a GEM MINT Canseco RC...
This box had tons of star power and all the key rookies...
But man, these cards are crazy condition sensitive! The centering on them is abismal, the registration is a mess usually, and the corners and edges show the slightest hint of wear even straight out of the pack. Of the 540 untouched cards in the box, here is the lone PSA 10 contender...
I never opened much of this stuff as a kid because prices went crazy by 1989 as Canseco marched through his 40/40 season and his RC hit $100. It still gives me a thrill to pull this iconic card. Too bad it has a slight tilt to it...

I'm on the hunt to grab a box of each type of wax box from the 80s. Where do you go to get yours? What do you recommend?
BBCE is the best for authentic, clean boxes at competitive prices. Plus they have more in stock than anyone else.
LOVE the '82's!
Too much work lately and not nearly enough play...
Only a handful of stars...
And one contender...
Time to get back to those tricky 1987 Donruss cards...
Out of the two boxes, 6 gem mint contenders emerge. And finally a top RC!
And of course plenty of rookies and stars to add to the growing piles of 1987 Donruss. I’m finally starting to compete with all of Mike’s bricks...
Awesome hit on the Larkin!

Have a few minutes to break these before heading out to dinner...

Whoa! Sweet pull on the Canseco!
Well that was way too long of a layoff from ripping packs...let’s get back to it!

Pack #18 had one GEM candidate...
Anyone else think he looks like a young Fisk in this picture?

Pack #18...
Pack #19 has a contender...
And pack #20...
Chris, how could you harm those defenseless packs? I think I need to go back into rehab for another month.

Collecting:
Any unopened Baseball cello and rack packs and boxes from the 1970's and early 1980s.
Haha...don’t worry Mike, this can only help increase the value of all those unopened treasures you have buried in the vault!
Next up...
Man 1986 Fleer are tough to find in GEM MINT. Here were the stars and rookies. Anyone else remember this Mickey Hatcher card?
And the lone contender out of 15 packs, which is 225 cards!
Up next...
Here were the handful of stars and rookies....a nice Harold Baines RC sighting...
And amazingly, 6 contenders out of only 6 packs...
This pesky thing called life keeps getting in my way. Up next...
Not much excitement in these two packs. A few HOFers, but no grading candidates...
Centering is very finicky on the 84 set. It doesn't take much for a card to look off-center when you look at the border by the photo box.

I just found this thread (as I don't come here often). But wow. This is a project I fully endorse!

Thanks AJW! The comments are what makes this even more fun for me. Hope you come back to check the breaks out.
Let’s go a little further back tonight and rip (2) packs each from 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1984 Topps...
Pack #23 from the full box of 1984 Topps had some HOF power...
And one candidate...
