Here's something I found Chris - back in the early 90s - some of the volume dealers like Brents cards e.g. - would give you a bonus of a stack of cards when you bought some of their rookie bricks.

Here's an example - there's got to be like 150!

Hey Mike. Thanks for sharing...I know who my go to is for a GEM Ryan or Winfield from 1984. I love seeing a brick like that of one player...really cool.

Sorry for my silence, but I have been enjoying spring break with my daughter this week. The ripping will resume again on Monday!

Good to hear from you Chris - and glad you had a nice week with your daughter - those are "good times!"

    Mike,
Winfield was my favorite player and 1984 and 1988 were my favorite years watching him as a kid. That stack would have been my holy grail and total trade bait to me! Thanks for sharing.

I just stumbled across this thread. I love it and will stay tuned. I had all of these sets in great condition when I was younger I sold everything when going through a divorce. Now I want back in. This is fun. Thanks for sharing this quest with us Chris.

    JG,
BBCE should give you some commision! Im an autograph guy, focusing primarily on baseball HOFers on baseballs and multisigned pieces. But this thread, along with Darren Rovell’s live breaks, made me order an 87 Donruss wax box and a few early 80s Topps packs. Cant wait to rip into them!!!!

Thanks guys! I am glad you are enjoying the ride with me. BBCE has definitely been great to me over the years, so I am glad this thread is inspiring others to collect and possibly rip some wax. I’m back from spring break now and will get the rips going again this week. I have been going through some 1980’s withdrawals while away

Centering issues continue to plague this entire box. Take a look at the Reggie and Schmidt to see where the card should have been cut. I am guessing these were top of the printing sheet cards...

Great thread. Love the 80s stuff. I'm partial to the 81s for some reason. So harshly graded.

This box had virtually all of the top rookies…

Every time I open these I am reminded just how impossible it is to find perfect copies of these cards. Here are the two contenders out of the box…

Actually, that Moyer might be more of a key rookie than most of what you pictured above. He has a halfway decent case for the HOF, especially after this year's picks.

Time to continue the 1989 vending box journey for those pesky PSA 10 candidates. The cardboard used this year is really poor with lots of gray spots on the boarders and surface bubbles. Oh well, here goes...

So after 2 vending boxes this morning, here is what we found. The pile of stars and rookies...

And 11 contenders. The Sabo and Jefferies make me smile. I loved these cards back in the day. Still love looking at them!!

My favorite of this group was the Ripken RC.

No Ryan in the 86T vending?
