1st coin for SLQ date set?

There was no real 'plan' when I bought this, just a gamble on a bad pic in an ANACS holder at an 'average auction' price. It was a winner, but really isn't a good fit for my album of VF coins. Busted it out, sent it for grading and Trueview, and am now thinking it could be the start of a fun set.

Stick with coins that have nice, bold dates such as the 1920 you have started with.

For whatever reason, 1920 SLQs show up with nice more often than any other date. So.....if you are looking to do a set of those, at least you know you have the easiest one done!!!

Very nice coin! I’d expect nothing less from you. Unfortunately, the date set still has the same stopper unless you want to start with 1917.
It is true that 1920 SLQs come nice. My Type 2a type coin is a 1920 and there is a small group of them in 67/67+ that have similar concentric rainbow toning.

Nice coin! If you are intent on building a set, the start with a 1917 Type 1 in the best condition you can afford. That will give you a really nice design and encourage further collecting. Next, buy the best 1917 Type-II (as fully struck as possible) you can afford - that will give you a base of comparison for future purchases.

Early Philadelphia mint coins have much better strikes than the branch mints. The most well struck of the lot is the 17 P Type 1.

Highest mintage of the entire series may explain the large numbers of "nice" ones.

The SLQ is an interesting coin and would make a great set to build/complete. Good start... Cheers, RickO
Buy the last of edition of the book by the late Jay Cline. He was the dealer - authority on the series. I did a quick Google seach, and the coin is available on-line.
Or you could put a Barber quarter in the 1916 slot and hope nobody notices.
Really a pretty coin. A gamble that paid off big.
