I don't like spots on a coin.
You forgot to include "hole." That is the most glaringly defect.
I didn’t include ‘hole’ because that is the only one that would prevent a straight grade.

An inflated selling price.
"Heavy Abrasions" would take it out of the straight grade as well.
I was between carbon spots and ugly toning. Most times you can get rid of ugly toning...but carbon spots are there to stay unless you want to molest a coin into an ungradable condition! I do hate carbon spots!
@Billjones Depends on what caused the heavy abrasions! Morgan Dollars are a prime example of a coin that is regularly graded with heavy abrasions!
Also: milk spots.
Also: Wrong TPG slab.
Also: a "for sale" sticker.
Insert witicism here. [ xxx ]
A train. Coins look terrible once a train has been on them.
Mustard stain.

I can't really vote because some of my coins have all of the above. I was thinking more like heavy corrosion, holed, graffiti, bent, ex-jewelry - but then I have some of those also.
Heavy abrasions are the worse to me as they cannot be fixed. Nevertheless, the coin is "honest" with no real "problems."
Eunice Shriver's face.
I want to write in mustard stains but I don't see that option.
The worst thing to have on a coin?
If "some poo" had been an option, that would have gotten my vote.

I hate a dead coin so dull luster is certainly close to the top for me. Dont generally like fingerprints either but some of my nicest coins had at least hints of them.

I can't live with any of those. Poor strike would be the most forgivable.
The rest are all in my bucket of deplorables.
Lance.
Pvc damage, just returned a coin for this reason.
PVC damage is specially bad, because it means that somebody once thought the coin was "good enough" to deserve a "nice" holder or album.
"Good enough" can vary, but sometimes it was very very nice.
any sign of " Made in China"
Milk spots on ASE and copper spots on gold coins !!!

Abrasions are the worst for me.....they really destroy the surface of the coin. Spots and fingerprints are distractions and not desirable...tarnish is surface damage, but not as permanent as abrasions. Cheers, RickO
A big fat fingerprint is the worst

"Made In China" on the reverse.
I like copper coins and carbon spots are a big turnoff.
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
I didn't see a category for all of the the above, so I picked finger prints. But, they are all bad. IMO.
What about a scratch?

That kind of goes along the same lines as abrasions. I have seen some post mint scratches that are straight graded, while others are not. I guess it depends upon the severity.

For me, an expertly (or otherwise) removed spot is a deal breaker. Lots of pin scratches tend to get by in holders these days. It’s amazing.

LOL! IMHO, you and 99% of the members on CU who do not examine coins using a stereo microscope will NEVER SEE most expertly repaired coins. Only an ignorant, "ham-fisted" idiot touches a spot with a pin!
I voted fingerprints but when I read the title my first thought was debt.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
As a collector of early copper, I'd say carbon spots are the worst.
I voted "abrasions" and also thought of debt, then on second thought, if I have debt at all and I have coins....
In many cases that's PMD, post mint DUMBNESS!
I say Big price tag and Ugly coin. Nothing worse then someone trying to pawn off an ugly coin with a big tag
Best place to buy !

I'm currently a copper collector so it's carbon spots for me.
Just to be a butt! Dull Luster is not on a coin!
I don't like graffiti
Dead presidents, but I didn’t see that option.

Went with heavy abrasions. I also can't stand carbon spots.
Artificial Toning
I went with heavy abrasions...but for me it's rim damage/cuts/heavy dings.
Cannot stand them!!!!
I'd rather have a coin with a gash on the portrait than one with a heavy rim ding/knock.
non of the choices make a great coin
Carbon spots on copper is worse than on silver coins
damaged coins are always looked down on with good reason!
Heavy abrasions.
Environmental damage of any sort.

While I voted abrasions, fingerprints are the worst. But, they can be removed.
