1797 JR-1 Draped Bust Dime - this die marriage often shows a die crack just over the date. If you look at many JR-1s you can see the progressive die crack until which no date is shown. There are not too many that don't show a date but you can find them. I believe the Mint removed this die after not too many were struck.

That "dateless" 1797 dime is a neat item. I owned a "normal one" years ago with just the die crack. The late Herb Siberman, who co-founded EAC (Early American Coppers club), told me that a terminal die state one existed with no date and that the ANS (American Numismatic Society) in New York City had one. I asked to see it there, but they claimed they didn't have one.
After a lot of searching on the Internet I found a picture of one and added it to my virtual collection. It is great to see a second one. Thanks for posting this!
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
Here is a Nova Eborac copper. This was a "semi official" New York State copper coinage. The same people who were involved with the Brasher Doubloon were also involved with this piece. This coinage was never sanctioned by the New York State Legislature although the people who made it tried to get that status.
And here is a Virginia Half Penny. These pieces were struck in England for the Virginia colony just before the American Revolution, and many of them were never issued. This is the only American colonial coin that most collectors can aspire to own in Mint State. This piece is now in a PCGS MS-63, R&B holder.

I love these big coins from the 1700's. My next goal is to find a 1795 half that looks like this.
A favorite very late and unique die state 1798 Dollar in PCGS MS62 (CAC).

I wonder how many foreign copper coins circulated in the American colonies along with the known British copper coins and various copper tokens.
Portugal 10 Reis 1764
Copper, 33mm, 11.09gm
Portugal 1000 Reis was worth about a dollar then, making this coin worth a US cent or British half penny.

I have two just like this. One is about the same grade as this coin but without the rim damage.

Sorry-wrong thread!
What a great thread!
Some copper...
And then some 18th century darkside material. Still valuable to see what these coins should look like if unmolested.
And how about 17th century?
Or 16th?
Ok, sorry, got carried away. I'll go back to the World Forum

What a great way to use the multi-holder and enjoy the coins together!
OMG! Those types may have circulated but those specimens don't look like they circulated at all!
Awesome Set!
