I don't join many clubs. Over the years on this forum there have been many negative posts regarding the ANA. A lot of fighting among the officers. Maybe that has cooled down.

A plus seems to be the lending library and access to inexpensive coin insurance.

I've been a member since 1980. The only real benefit to me is the Numismatist magazine each month.

Member 39 years - I have had many personal benefits, but there has been much embarrassment from the incomprehensible politics and decisions of the board of governors and from the fact that there have rarely been very many real numismatists among the hired staffers. Every year I bite my lip and pay the dues with some bewilderment.

Used to be. All the fighting and politics turned me off. My local club won't even join anymore because of all the stuff that went on in the past.

I am also a member of the NRA :)

Perhaps to promote community and enuthisiam via an organized and nationwide entity.

Benefits include access to ANA member only events and services ranging from forums to cost effective coin insurance.
The ANA summer seminar has had a tremendous impact on hundreds or perhaps thousands of collectors, and dealers, myself included. The 2016 Seminar was a fantastic catalyst to the success of my career.

If you see no benefit to joining the ANA, and can't conceptualize a reason for it's existence it's apparent you're unaware of the impact the ANA has made and will continue to make on the hobby of collecting US coins.

I used to belong when I was actively dealing and setting up at ANA shows, as membership was a requirement. I'm not as active in coins overall these days, and let my ANA membership lapse a couple of years ago.

Yes, I am a member of the ANA and always will be, regardless of the politics past, present or future.

I'm also one of those who believes all of us who care about this hobby should be active members of the ANA. You don't have to like those currently or formerly running the ANA, but you should support the organization through good times and bad. This is our national organization and we must support it.

Those who whine about the leadership of the ANA really sound like those folks who say they are going to move out of the country when there is a leader who they disagree with... come on! You don't like what is going on, then try to do something about it, but walking away is not a solution.

For those of you who are not currently members, if you want to sign up let me know and I'll hook you up with a free 1-year gold membership (digital delivery of magazine). If you want the print magazine, there is a first year charge of $30 instead of the normal $46.

Can't do this for everyone of course, just the first 5 or so who send me a PM. And you can't be a current member or have been a member w/in the last year.

My primary focus/objective for the past many years was to get kids involved. With no kids, no next generation,
our hobby goes the way of stamps. Average age of ANA members I believe is 67.
One of the key tasks is to help the clubs around the country get more kids involved. I have tried to do this
through the ANA to no avail.
After the last election, one of the board members requested me write a series of kid books for the ANA,
which would go to every club and library.
I told him I would do it for free donate any book to the ANA, and suggested that it should be done as an ebook
or virtual book..... All ideas were shot down by the ANA.
I even donated I believe 400 kids books to the ANA for the purpose of providing them to the clubs, I wound up
spending a lot of money to do so. They wound up giving them out to kids at one of their shows, I was less than
    happy.......
I have decided to skip the ANA and work with individuals such as Alan (coinzip) who works directly with many
of the clubs, he gives my books to them for free when setting up their web pages.
The sole purpose of the one book, Coin Collecting for the next generation is to help teach people how to get
kids involved to help the next generation and was written by many of the experts in this field.
IMO, the ANA has lost its path, I get to frustrated in trying to help them, I hear similar stories from others,
who attempt to volunteer their time and effort

I hope the ANA sees the light and can improve, but until then, I plan to attempt to help our hobby in the best
way I can as each of us does. I do not need the ANA to do this, but it would be helpful IMO if they did focus
on that which is critical to our existence.

Wow, ebooks being shot down by the ANA. Given that everyone is moving online now, there needs to be some more forward thinking. Hopefully the next ANA President will have a focus on growing the hobby for YNs and others.
