I suggest you send a picture to allengelhard.com and ask about this bar. If anyone has any info on this bar, they would.
    Cool looking bar regardless

They were sent to AE yesterday. They added them to the site which is pretty cool in my opinion. They even made me an offer for $180 per ounce which I kindly declined. Super cool stufd

Ty everyone. I have received so many emails and offers for these. Core collectors want them bad. Going to eBay the next day or so. Unless I get a string offer.

1800 not strong???... prolly way to strong...

The poured silvertowne 10's go for 900 or so, the colonial's are machine finished and have no real hint of being associated with Engelhard except for serial number, I think I rather go with a marked Engelhard 10 with no serial number... we shall see how it falls though...

I'd take that $1800 and run!

  • mrkbrown87mrkbrown87 Posts: 909 ✭✭✭

Not when it's coming from the core collectors that the bars are some of the rarest they have ever seen. They are clearly marked with the P series. Thank for you guys input

That's my point, they are for all intensive purposes, knockoffs, and why would anyone pony up more than for an actual E mark bar, the iron was hot at 1800 but cooler heads I think will prevail... for the record they are awesome bars and hopefully I am wrong...

They offered $3,600 for two 10 oz bars and you turned it down? Okay what's going on here?

Is there any proof that these were manufactured by Engelhard?

  • MeltdownMeltdown Posts: 8,792 ✭✭✭✭✭

Post the ebay link if you end up going that route... I'd be curious to watch!
I too would have taken the $1800 each and ran. Good luck.

FYI I turned 1800 down because I'm being advised by a very knowledgeable collector. I was offered $2500 for the bar not already in auction. Ty for everyone's input. And KnockOff? Not hardly. Silvertowne Engelhard bars sell for excess of 5k with 100known. There are 2 of these. No derogatory remarks plz

No silvertowne sold for 5k unless someone got hosed major... one just sold here for 900.... unless you talking to allE himself which since you had to be told to send them there you don't personally know him, your mentor I would be cautious listening to seriously..,
If your bar goes for 2500 I'll first shat my pants, then prolly quit the business, I see the eBay listing already over priced, but then again it's obvious I am clueless...
But I give you 2 thumbs up cause you in Maryland...

Oh and the first silvertowne ever found, old pour contributed to Engelhard sold for 1200 when silver 30+spot...

    Cool

No disrespect to the allengelhard dudes, but with no engelhard markings on the bar and the fact that the allengelhard dudes are not actually with Engelhard on what exactly are they basing their claim: "10th series extruded bar produced by Engelhard for Colonial Refining, Inc. Two known examples?"

Before I could bid I would want to know what "provenance" is there that Englehard actually made these two bars and that less than 100 were made? The serial numbers alone cast doubt on this claim: "1446" and "1177." Does this mean they made at least 1446 of the bars and does it mean that there are at least another 268 bars that fall between the two given serial numbers?

Will more of these suddenly appear after the hammer drops?

Random musings, why not sell to a knowledgeable ENgelhard expert, will a stooge pay more on eBay???

All this seems weird, if I got a expert offering me 2500 what numnut would pay me more?, why would they pay more, and more importantly, why would I take that chance... somethin smelling not quite right...

"experts" may not pay the most because they may be thinking about the resale already...to a wider group known to them. So, they would want some more meat on the bone than to offer the most that one could get.

While I probably would have sold at $1800, I have sold many things way too early and seen others make a much bigger profit.

Not sure why all the crapping on the OP is going on. Seems par for the course for these forums and certain members to do it. Makes it a lot less likely that people will share what they have and what happens. Sucks.
No one needs to be a Pollyanna about things, but to be so negative all the time is just stupid and meanspirited...and not appreciated by many, I am sure.

I listed a bar for significantly lower than these bars mentioned, if true it shouldn't last til tomorrow and actually should have sold already, anyways we shall see if these biggies will scoop it up and double or quadruple there money easily, we shall see...

Expert collector I would assume if I had a trilobite brain didn't have this bar since there are only 2, so a collector I think buys to collect or keep or display not to buy an immediately resell, but once again what do I know, zilch... who is crapping on OP? No one I see, also see zero negativity, I do see some interesting issues and am going to learn a lot either way, it goes better for me if the bars go high... the negative card is like pulling the race card...

I would be surprised if it goes pass 1800 at auction. Who knows, to some collectors this bar might strike their fancy and have to have it in their collection. Should be interesting to see the final outcome.

@mrkbrown87 Great find! I think you will exceed the $1800 offer with your auction. My guess is that this will go somewhere in the $2500-$2700 range. I would love to come across one in the wild.

Couldn't agree more with this version of "expert collector". As a collector of these bars, they want it for their "collection" and probably would be the first to offer strong $$$

IMO, this "auction" will NOT see the light of day. It will be ended early for one reason or another as i don't see it going to $2500+ on eBay. Although the high bidder (Bid activity (%) with this seller: 50%) is helping it along nicely

  • mrkbrown87mrkbrown87 Posts: 909 ✭✭✭

I do appreciate everyones thoughts and comments. I'm not ending the Auction early no matter what. I've had a few offers of $2500 to end it. And I am a newbie when It comes to silver bars so I'm taking alot of advice and info from a bar collector of pretty well know status.

Just curious, with all due respect, if this ends significantly lower than $2500, will you still honor the ebay sale?

  • PRECIOUSMENTALPRECIOUSMENTAL Posts: 961 ✭✭✭✭

    Up to $1285.00.

  • BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,381 ✭✭✭✭✭

I personally hope you get $3000+ for it.
I wouldn't do it, as the only bullion collectibles I do would be SAEs or Lunar series, and can't imagine "normal" rounds or bars getting the premiums, but I know others do. So, based on others doing it, I hope you score and score big.
