I won the double-struck 1964D Morgan. I just got back from a business trip, and didn't want to count any chickens before they were hatched. I now have it in hand.
I went $100 over my initial bid, because I own one of Dan's double-struck Capped Bust half dollars, and it's one of my favorites from everything he's made. I thought the 1964D would make a nice addition.

It would be awesome to have detailed photos of all the specimens of these, like is done for the old coins. I imagine these could be interesting to compare because all would be slightly different.

Man, I'm on the fence with those. I like them, for sure. But $200 is a lot for 3 ounces of silver. Then again, it shows a mintage of only 16 so far, so maybe others are thinking the same. If it stays low, I may pick one up.

My feelings exactly. I have a few other DC medals on my radar before pulling the trigger on that 3 oz. I’m sure by the time I decide I want one, it will no longer be available. Then I’ll pay a ridiculous premium on eBay for one....yeah, that sounds about right.
Between two separate out-of-town visitors this week, and a blizzard, I'm delayed more than expected on shipping.
But as of today I am caught up on minting and I plan to ship all pending orders by Monday.

My 1st order was not delivered yesterday. That fickle P.O. changed their mind. "Oh, it's actually leaving San Fran today, not leaving our local P.O. for delivery. We may get to it Friday or maybe Saturday. We'll see. Sorry about that." Every time I hear that I mumble "NO, you're NOT" I really dislike that throw away comment. A thoughtless insincere garbage phrase. They actually couldn't care less. I will be ready for a maybe delivery today 'cuz I have to sign for it.

I'm a neighbor of yours..... Up in Fort Bragg.
All my mail used to be routed through what my postal office called the "black hole" the Richmond sorting facility. Numerous packages or their contents went missing for me and then I had to play the mail recovery game. I have been waiting on the recovery of $3200 in items for 4 years now and they wont refund me. They no longer route through Richmond.... they couldnt fix the issue in the facility.
I ordered one on 4/1 thought about a second but went for an octagon yesterday. I'm still tempted though....> @Downtown1974 said:

Full disclosure, those are Dan's photos. My new camera is coming. I only wanted a compact camera that had great macro capability. I'm getting the Olympus TG5 Powerful Macro Modes
Shoot flowers, insects, and other wildlife in stunning detail. Microscope Mode lets you get as close as 1 cm to your subject, and Microscope Control Mode offers precise magnification in steps up to 44.5x. Focus Bracketing and Stacking Modes produce shots with exquisite sharpness and maximum depth of field.
And in considering the TG-5, I was reminded of a well-worn saying; 'it's not the camera, it's the photographer.' I happen to think there's an awful lot of truth in that, but even so, as a nerd as well as a photographer, there are usually lines in the sand (apologies) I don't cross. One of them is using a dedicated camera with a smartphone camera-sized sensor.
There are usually lines in the sand I don't cross.
But then again, my smartphone isn't rugged or waterproof, and doesn't have an optical zoom. Adding to that, the TG-5 offers Raw capture, GPS logging, good external controls, a more powerful flash anda crazy good macro mode. With the Tough, you've got a pretty compelling, compact package without the hassle of endless smartphone apps, clunky waterproof cases and fiddly lens attachments.
This wasn't a snap decision. I did lots of research of many camera makes and models. This one checked all the boxes and got good reviews from several sources I trust. DPReview being one of my favorites. I was into photography as a hobby but coins grabbed me again. Now the batteries for the camera I have are dead and I can't get replacements sent to me in Hawaii. A pesky little issue of Lithium-Ion batteries and bursting into flames. Picky, picky, picky.
I also have a 6", variable ring light on order.
As to the 100 gram, 3+ troy ounce, Large Format Winged Saint-Gaudens "$100 Union".....it is not only 50mm across but also 6mm thick. Edge lettering says "100 GRAMS .999 SILVER". It fills the 2.5 x 2.5 inch flip it comes in. A monster ! And a beauty too.
Mine shipped this morning as well. I’ll be out of town until Saturday so I had to put a hold on my mail. That means I have to wait until Monday to see my new medals.

Fantastic... this will cause this piece to have more exposure and put more money into Dan's business allowing him freedom to create.
Lets also not forget that some people with strong hands may have ordered more than 1, 2 , 3 or more. This makes that mintage number much less important for short term appreciation.

High mintage is never a good thing, my friend. There is a finite number of people who collect Dan's work. That number may be growing, but going from 16 to 96 in population overnight is certainly not good for short term.
But if you are a collector and appreciate his work as art, than I agree. It doesn't matter how many are struck.

The basic premise is scarcity creates demand, I believe it to be much more complex. His 1964 peace dollar or the Stella are examples of demand exceeding expectations. His popularity is beginning to grow exponentially and any of his first works are sure to garner more attention.
If it continues to trend this way anything he strikes under a population of 500 will become retirement portfolio. Its not uncommon for me to see 2500% returns on my investments over a 5-10 year and I do believe that I have found another one that will do it.
I have been buying what I see as investment pieces off ebay, you can see the completed sales and who has dropped $10k+ in the last month or so on Dan Carr gold pieces and limited high graded slabbed strikes. I try to not buy strikes that where not a general offering to the public, or not part of a series that he has committed to over the years. But like all investments nothing is a sure thing and I encourage people to buy what they enjoy.
Whats also nice about the strike is that their will be variations in luster. I get bored with cookie cutter proofs, here is a screen shot from the Moonlight mint page.

It makes sense for a "Union" ($100 symbolic face value) piece to be about 100 grams and have a mintage of 100.
There will probably be a proof-like silver version next, and the plan is for it to have a slightly lower price and a somewhat higher mintage.
