Are your double eagle overstrikes shipping? I think mine was the last to send in ~~ have not gotten any shipping notice yet.
All have been shipped.
The shipping email notifications are sent automatically when I mark the order as "shipped" in the store's database.
But if it was a mailed-in order (payment by check with host coin), then there is no order in the store's database to mark as "shipped". In some cases I might not even have or know the buyer's email address.
Would it be possible to have the USPS Tracking number added to the ship notice when the order ships? I don't know if that could be set-up to be automatic so it doesn't cost you a lot of time to do it manually?
If I was using shipping labels, there might be a way to do that (with some effort to set it up).
But most of the time I am using up bunches of older stamps (that don't work with shipping labels). And so I would have to look up, and then manually enter into the database, every tracking number.
Expensive shipments are always sent via Registered mail, so there is always a trail to follow (if necessary).

That is amazing that someone got 25 when only 28 of ones like yours were made. They basically have everyone available. WOW.
It was a big Bust Dollar collector from what I heard. You had to submit your own coin which I think stopped a lot of people. On the other hand, this person probably had a lot accumulated.
That leaves you as one of the only people to have it. Daniel always keeps one for himself, then the person with 25, you and one other person. That is a rarity for sure. Congrats. I wonder if that person will ever sell some off. I know there is the more available version struck on a Silver Dollar.
I’m not sure if 25 is an exact number. It just came up in conversation.
Still, if someone has that many, it may be easier to convince that person to sell one or more; and if they do come out, they could flood the market if there are a lot.
If all 25 came out at once they would sell at the asking price in minutes. The DC crowd seems like a hungry group
Can't we force him to print more out since its so much in demand why not produce about 1000 of each so everybody can have one? That seems fair. Maybe have a court order have Dan have to produce these coins as part of a right to Universal Daniel Carr coins and we unionize or Courtize!
An 1834 Draped Bust Dollar could be pretty cool!
Be careful what you wish for though! The first time, you had to produce a donor Draped Bust Dollar so this may be the same. Check out the prices on those.

Wow. That it an amazing piece of art. It must be crazy in hand. That much gold and DCs craftsmanship.
I spend a lot of time searching DCs online record of mint output. There are a few items I hope to see in person some day. A 2.5 oz gold token like this is one of them. There are also a few rectangular shaped silver bars that look really cool online.

There are certainly a lot of rare and wonderful things Dan's created over the years!
I just got back from the annual So-Called Dollar Fellowship and I was able to see very rare and high condition pieces that I would normally never get a chance to see.
It would be great to have a Dan Carr Club or something similar where people can get together and share their rare Moonlight Mint items!
I have this piece which says DCC on the obverse. I like to think of it standing for "Dan Carr Club" but it really stands for "Denver Coin Club".

Mine arrived a day early……..and it’s really pretty! Just the right amount of ghosting to show the date of the
O/S coin. 1876-S. I like o/s coins but when it starts getting confusing to decipher what’s what I don’t care for those to much.
This is beautiful.

Under the stresses of over-striking sometimes a flake of metal can come off.
I think on your coin there was a tiny pocket of black "slag" just under the surface.
Upon over-striking it opened up. Luckily, all the black stuff came out and the pit was small.
Things like that happen fairly often.

This was a pretty roughed up MS60/61 coin before Daniel worked his magic. It is neat to see the old date in the background of the new date. Liberty had some pretty good hits to her face and neck on the host coin. I didn't take pictures before but the afters don't seem to have them. I do have before and afters of my 1875S that is coming back in the next few days as a 1848 CAL. I will post both when able to.
Here is my original coin and the o/s for comparison . It was pretty rough looking. It does come a little coppery
looking but not sure why. Maybe after a while it oxidizes and changes color?……..don’t know.
I asked Daniel about that. He said he was not sure why the O/S process was causing the copper tone to the coin. They are all coming out that way.
I don’t think the O/S Saint Gaudens had that happen. Those always look good to me. Maybe I’m wrong in that. I don’t own one, yet.

@robec said: @dcarr Any plan of doing an O/S for $2.5 Indian gold size coins? Something like a gold Lincoln or Indian cent would be very cool.
From what I've seen, Dan traditionally keeps the denomination the same, but it's an interesting thought given how much gold Lincoln or Indian Head Cents are worth.

agreed. i love it. you take such great photos.
Stef's photos are gorgeous! She really makes Dan's coins shine!
I opted for the O mint myself… two of them in fact. Got them both in about a month ago, I choose a specific date coin for the main attraction, a 1907-D host coin which I posted a pic of earlier in this thread.
Anacs made a small error with my last submission and customer service offered me a complimentary grade and image. I sent the 1908-O over 1907-D to them and the results are in MS-70. I’ll post the “trueview” once it uploads, the underdate was visible.
The other one I got from a friend was a 1901-S which has found a new home in my pocket with some Landis friends…lol.
Here she is, you can see some silvery rub/transfer from the silver dollars, and interestingly enough, the dollars have golden cheeks now.
As far as quality goes, they are both lovely pieces. Dan himself mentioned something about these not being a sharp as he would have liked (earlier in this thread) but I think the somewhat muted design has a certain charm to it as most New Orleans double eagle suffer from poor strikes and weak elements. This one has a bit of “finning” on a part of the obverse and reverse rims and while the 07 had no marks, this one came with a small mark on the eyebrow (all the other marks are due to me carrying it)
Dan said he adjusted his machines to make clearer designs. I would love to see this one redone in Prooflike, but from what I understand the host coin plays an important part in achieving a PL finish. I think a 1909-O st. Gaudens would also be awesome as there are no O mint st gaudens out there.
Got my 08-O and 1848 'CAL" back this last week. Nice coins, I am not seeing the ghosting others are talking about. I used NGC problem coins in MS, Scratched for one and cleaned for the other. 1905-S and 1873-S Open 3 for the other. The price differential for the problem coins was near zero vs. Au/VF coins and I felt bad, but I wanted nice coins. I will say the strike on the 08-O obverse looks a little die fatigued on the Liberty in the hair ribbon. To Oregon Trails are really spot on and I love them. The 84-S and CC canceled dies are cool as well.
Those double eagle overstrikes are beautiful. I had every intention of buying an 1848 cal, but finances being what they were, I couldn't get the host coin before he ended production.
The next historical overstrike he decides to make, I'm in.

Mine arrived a day early……..and it’s really pretty! Just the right amount of ghosting to show the date of the
O/S coin. 1876-S. I like o/s coins but when it starts getting confusing to decipher what’s what I don’t care for those to much.
This is beautiful.

Great piece! Any sign of host issues? Scratches, hits, etc?
Waiting for mine yet, was a battered/abused lady🙁
None that I could see and mine was pretty bad too. Maybe on the reverse right side, in the field
you see a small pit. I don't remember it being there but then again as soon as the coin arrived I sent it off.
I'll look to see if I took an image before and compare.

@dcarr Any plan of doing an O/S for $2.5 Indian gold size coins? Something like a gold Lincoln or Indian cent would be very cool.

From what I've seen, Dan traditionally keeps the denomination the same, but it's an interesting thought given how much gold Lincoln or Indian Head Cents are worth.
agreed. i love it. you take such great photos.
Stef's photos are gorgeous! She really makes Dan's coins shine!

There were 20 of the 1848 CAL and 23 of the 1908O struck. It will be interesting to see how many of them show up here on CU.

Thanks for sharing @coinsarefun, @pcgscacgold and @steveben , the double eagles look great!
Y’all have a great weekend
It's all about what the people want...
@LukeMarshall wow a pocket piece? cool. be careful and don't lose or wash it.
Yea, that gave me pause as well!
Here is mine, the host an 1876 S as well...Photo makes the surface appear a bit more grainy than in hand:
Well, just Love coins, period.
