I will be watching this one and the .25oz version. I’m wondering how much over spot they will go.
Last time I saw these, they went for bullion value. They are nice but while Dan did the dies, he didn’t do the striking and the mintages aren’t published.
Everything I have been bidding on has been going for a lot. I’ll be interested To see if that happens here.
They need to be reslabbed with the Moonlight Mint insert!
Does anyone know how to get one of these? There were 400 struck so it seems like it should be somewhat common but I've only ever seen one on the bay and the condition wasn't very great so I passed.

I don't know how to get one. I'm not sure what the distributor did with them all, but I assume at least some were sold.
PS:
There is a typographical error - there are three footnotes numbered 1, 2, and 2 (should be 1, 2, 3, of course - now corrected on my web site).

Just visited your site. Remarkable gold coinage (The $4, $20 Libs and Saints are incredible). I only wish I was here when you were minting those. Missed out on the Peace and Morgan's too. Can't wait to see what comes next.

He's still minting the $20 Libs! Go for it
I need to get my hands on a cleaned No Motto and a cleaned Motto first. We have a show coming in early Oct and I have seen cleaned Liberty Double Eagles there in the past. I am guessing these would be good candidates for a restrike.
I have not seen any of these posted here so it would be interesting to see if anyone has one.

Thanks for the advice. I wondered if the starting coin affected the finished product. You have given me a project. First time I will search out a cleaned coin.

Actually, dirty ones are fine as Dan can bead blast them before striking.
After looking at the catalog I hope to one day be fortunate enough to own one of the SLQ's, one of the WLH's, and one of the Peace Dollars (and maybe a gold restrike). The photos are incredible.
Maybe one day a $10 Indian restrike will be done and I will be ready to buy direct.

Love the SLQ's!
Before you buy, I think a bit of history might help you identify a potential bargain...
Years ago, I believe MS69 was the highest grade ANACS gave for a Carr fantasy overstrike. Why? Who knows? Anyway, if the label is hand-signed in blue ink by Dan Carr, then it's an older (pre-2018?) slab. Newer slabs have a signature reproduced in black. Maybe Dan will chime in & confirm.
Then, IIRC in late 2018, ANACS began awarding MS70 as the top grade for Carr fantasy overstrikes. I believe this changed because another grading service (ICG) began grading Carr overstrikes with MS70 as the top grade.
My point is, an old blue-signature MS69 might re-grade MS70 today -- and you're "only" paying MS69 money. Is the difference MS69 vs MS70 worth re-submitting an older slab? Maybe yes, especially if you think it's MS70 quality. But if it upgrades, you lose an original slab label that was hand-signed by Dan.

That is basically correct. The change in policy from max MS69 to max MS70 did not coincide exactly with the changeover from hand-signed to facsimile-signed inserts, but it was close (the signature on the insert changed first).

My newest DC addition. From the photo, t appears to have the same milk spot issues that many ASE's have. Though I don't like that look, I wanted this one in hand to see if that is actually the case here.
Has anyone else noticed milk spots forming on their Daniel Carr Proof ASE over-strikes? Maybe it is just a bad photo.

Those do look like "milk spots". I do not know of any other instances of that on items I over-struck. That particular item was made on commission. I shipped the over-struck pieces to the customer, and then they shipped them to ANACS and back. So I don't know what may have happened during that time.
When did the Oregon Trail Silver Eagle go on sale?
These went on sale in April.
I must be slipping,,,,,,, how did I miss them.
I must have been paying too much attention to the new US Mint Issue coins.
Just ordered a few,,,,,,,,, glad I didn't miss the boat.

Thanks for taking the time to comment @dcarr I enjoyed getting the background on the coin. I will keep watch for another of these without spots. I am also still searching for two Liberty DE's.
I really like Dan's work, but i may not be reading the description right.
"Each "1848 Oregon Trail" starts out as a US Mint produced Silver Eagle dollar. They are then privately over-struck with template dies to impart the original Oregon Trail designs from the commemorative Half Dollar of 1926-1939. A surplus Denver Mint coin press is used in the over-striking process."
These are not over strikes of original Oregon Commemorative Half Dollars?
Or are they silver dollar sized?

I was wondering the same thing. I was thinking over strikes on half dollars and then read closer to see over strikes on ASE's.

Yes, they are the size of a Silver Eagle (quite a bit larger than the original half dollar).
Striking on Silver Eagles made them much more affordable as original Oregon Trail Half Dollars did not need to be purchased. I believe the overstruck ones were around d $300 ea,,, these are $115 ea.
Yes! Belated birthday present from my wife. Love the native American and the land yacht ain't too shabby either. Glad I checked CU this morning to see this post. Peace Roy
"1848 Oregon Trail" Silver Eagle Over-Strike" I must say I was looking for something to fill the last hole on this page I'll take out the wooden dollar and the last 3 holes will have the 2021 Morgan & Peace Dollars plus this Oregon trail piece

Awesome! I want one of the Oregon Silver Dollars but I want one of these too!
I overlooked 'em too.

Thanks for taking the time to comment @dcarr I enjoyed getting the background on the coin. I will keep watch for another of these without spots. I am also still searching for two Liberty DE's.

I believe most of the Oregon $ coins went to a contractor.
Well, just Love coins, period.
Dan has them now listed on his direct sale site.

Duh, if I would just read the description. I took a good look at the obverse, and sure enough, SILVER DOLLAR.

Yes, they are the size of a Silver Eagle (quite a bit larger than the original half dollar).
I have always like the design. Just ordered one.

Striking on Silver Eagles made them much more affordable as original Oregon Trail Half Dollars did not need to be purchased. I believe the overstruck ones were around d $300 ea,,, these are $115 ea.
Yup, the full 40mm . . . . . . .
