If anyone is interested in Dan's Dwight D. Eisenhower 70th Anniversary of D-Day medals, some are available now.

I will be watching this one and the .25oz version. I’m wondering how much over spot they will go.

Last time I saw these, they went for bullion value. They are nice but while Dan did the dies, he didn’t do the striking and the mintages aren’t published.

Everything I have been bidding on has been going for a lot. I’ll be interested To see if that happens here.

They need to be reslabbed with the Moonlight Mint insert!

Does anyone know how to get one of these? There were 400 struck so it seems like it should be somewhat common but I've only ever seen one on the bay and the condition wasn't very great so I passed.

Just visited your site. Remarkable gold coinage (The $4, $20 Libs and Saints are incredible). I only wish I was here when you were minting those. Missed out on the Peace and Morgan's too. Can't wait to see what comes next.

I need to get my hands on a cleaned No Motto and a cleaned Motto first. We have a show coming in early Oct and I have seen cleaned Liberty Double Eagles there in the past. I am guessing these would be good candidates for a restrike.

I have not seen any of these posted here so it would be interesting to see if anyone has one.

Actually, dirty ones are fine as Dan can bead blast them before striking.

Nice photo! Makes it easy to see the details of a Type 1 SLQ... I prefer the exposed breast design.

By comparison, the more-common Type 2 seems a bit overdressed.

Before you buy, I think a bit of history might help you identify a potential bargain...

Years ago, I believe MS69 was the highest grade ANACS gave for a Carr fantasy overstrike. Why? Who knows? Anyway, if the label is hand-signed in blue ink by Dan Carr, then it's an older (pre-2018?) slab. Newer slabs have a signature reproduced in black. Maybe Dan will chime in & confirm.

Then, IIRC in late 2018, ANACS began awarding MS70 as the top grade for Carr fantasy overstrikes. I believe this changed because another grading service (ICG) began grading Carr overstrikes with MS70 as the top grade.

My point is, an old blue-signature MS69 might re-grade MS70 today -- and you're "only" paying MS69 money. Is the difference MS69 vs MS70 worth re-submitting an older slab? Maybe yes, especially if you think it's MS70 quality. But if it upgrades, you lose an original slab label that was hand-signed by Dan.

That is basically correct. The change in policy from max MS69 to max MS70 did not coincide exactly with the changeover from hand-signed to facsimile-signed inserts, but it was close (the signature on the insert changed first).

Great ingot! It's stamped 088 which is an auspicious number. It also has a 1715 Fleet Society tag.

Of note, this wasn't issued by Dan, but was issued by the 1715 Fleet Society. Here's their website:

My newest DC addition. From the photo, t appears to have the same milk spot issues that many ASE's have. Though I don't like that look, I wanted this one in hand to see if that is actually the case here.

Has anyone else noticed milk spots forming on their Daniel Carr Proof ASE over-strikes? Maybe it is just a bad photo.

Those do look like "milk spots". I do not know of any other instances of that on items I over-struck. That particular item was made on commission. I shipped the over-struck pieces to the customer, and then they shipped them to ANACS and back. So I don't know what may have happened during that time.

I really like Dan's work, but i may not be reading the description right.

"Each "1848 Oregon Trail" starts out as a US Mint produced Silver Eagle dollar. They are then privately over-struck with template dies to impart the original Oregon Trail designs from the commemorative Half Dollar of 1926-1939. A surplus Denver Mint coin press is used in the over-striking process."

These are not over strikes of original Oregon Commemorative Half Dollars?

Or are they silver dollar sized?

Yes, they are the size of a Silver Eagle (quite a bit larger than the original half dollar).
