When I received my order of 4 coins, 2 of the eagles a 1805 bust and 1931 peace, I signed for them and immediately open them. The bust and peace were spotless but the eagles had problems. I was curious if anybody else had problem coins?
It is strange that two different Silver Eagles from different production runs would be the only ones (that I know of) to develop extensive spotting like that. The one thing that they have in common is that they were both in the same shipment (although the two .900 silver items in the same package did not spot).
Anyway, I mailed replacements earlier this week.
Maybe room for some improvement.
The coins arrived in flips not sealed from the environment. Placed in a corrugated adhesive coin mailer that was placed in a cardboard mailer. So the coins are in close contact with adhesive and no vapor barrier at all from external environment.
Suggest at least an air tight baggie or even better coin capsule placed in a air tight baggie.
Customer should not have to pay return postage for product that was received damaged as I did.
Vendor should use language that reflects taking ownership of problem, not language like strange and anyway that seems to deflect taking ownership of the problem.
I have not received any other recent reports of spotting like that. But it may be difficult to always prevent "milk spotting". The US Mint has had quite a problem with Silver Eagles in that regard. Even though I clean them and over-strike them, some might still have trace contaminants left over from their original production.

Looks like something my New Doggie Moe Moe would do! Had to get a brother for her sister Izzy who is home alone all day! Moe Moe would like to get his paws 🐾 on them! Now I gotta do the potty training all over again.
Would love to get my hands on this 2010 beautiful piece made by Daniel. Only 16 minted.
I haven't even seen that one, and that says a lot. Good luck.. Sometimes those ultra rare/obscure ones pop out of the woodwork. Trouble is, when they do, they either go ridiculously cheap or for a killer premium depending on how the seller markets it and whether they get the right eyes on it.

Those were part of a group of portrait medals that I was commissioned to make. The "Freedom/Liberty" medal actually depicts the wife of the person that commissioned me to make them all. Mintage figures are here (see second section from the bottom): moonlightmint.com/dc-coin_medals_portrait_list.htm
Thanks for that background Dan. It took me a while to find it in the MM production catalog, under "Portrait Medals". I was wondering how this portrait was chosen among the other famous individuals. Cool stuff!

@Akbeez, I carry 3 in each pocket so they rub each other and move around. @Justacommeman, yep, 10-4 on the cargo pants. I use the deep pockets so I don't lose them.
With all the traveling and flying I do for work now I havent kept mine going much over the last year or so. Dont want to lose them at TSA or slip out into an airline or rental car seat etc. Glad to see you're still chugging along tho!
Had my wallet slip out of my pocket while returning a rental car at the Atlanta airport. Took the tram to check in and boom no wallet. Rushed back to the rental car drop off and they found my wallet but what do ya know... $450 in cash was gonzo. At least I got my ID back to fly, cards etc but dayum. Dirty..

Great idea! At one Summer Seminar long ago, I made a set of errors on the tokens. Starting with a planchet, a planchet w/clip, a normal token, a token w/clip, a very week strike, an off-center, a double strike, a double strike one off-center, etc.
have any pics that you're willing to share?
.
I'm always willing to share coins. What are you sending me?
I'll need to find the coins. I don't even the remember the design they used that year.
I hope you understand this: If you are asking because you want to see some hand-made error tokens because you collect ANA souvenirs, I'll look but it will take a while because I have no idea where they are. If you are asking because you wish to see some error tokens or you don't believe me, please don't. The internet is filled with images of errors.

Actually, I have started looking for them. I had them made to use in the "How coins are made" part of my classes but over time I've replaced them with actual error coins. Otherwise, I could dig them out in 5 min.
The only good thing about stashing coins all over the place (I still have many in storage in another state!) is every-so-often I'll come upon a stash and it is Christmas in (name the month) because I often forgot I owned many of the coins.
Nice shots @Gluggo ! Love those orange shadows on the Bust. Is your 31 bulk or HQ finish (sometimes hard to distinguish)? Almost looks like some chatter on "PLURIBUS UNUM" but maybe lighting? Saw that the 31 Bulk finish are available again.

Hey Ak the 31 is the HQ version and it’s a beauty. As for the pluribus it was difficult getting that to shoot properly. Took about 10 shots and gave up. The light was adjusted but really love the eagle on the reverse. Not sure why the cheeks are so tanned I figure part of the process.

i almost missed out this year...i didn't realize they were up. after my order, they were not available. whew, that was close!
Nice collection !
It looks like a couple of them (upper left and upper right) have developed "red spots".
That can be mitigated or eliminated by proper conservation as follows:
Go to Wallgreens, Home Depot, or similar and get a black plastic bottle of Tarn-X (or similar "dip" cleaner).
Submerge the coin in fresh cleaner for a couple minutes. If the cleaner has previously yellowed due to use on dirty silver coins, don't use it on gold or copper. The upper left coin (2013 issue) has some silver in the alloy, so limit exposure to a couple minutes. The upper right coin (2014 issue) and all the rest are 999, so they can stay in the cleaner for a long time (5 minutes or more). The spots should fade. Remove the coin from the cleaner and rinse completely under the tap (including the edge). Then pat dry with a clean soft cotton bath towel (never rub dry - pat dry only).
