Would you have posted if Tazawa had struck out the side?
Why was it a dumb move? Does Tazawa have pitching issues? He simply failed to perform, no more, no less. Is it your position that Farrell chose Tazawa because he knew he would pitch poorly?
So, because Farrell brings in a pitcher that didn't perform, you have no use for him...right?
He's the manager, he makes decisions, some are home runs, some not so much.
Tazawa has not pitched well in most cases all year so to bring him in in such an important game was a move that equaled his move of putting one of his best pitchers in to run a couple of weeks ago. Great managers very seldom make these kind of mistakes.
What if Farrell could have brought in Sandy Koufax and Sandy gave up a grand slam...would you think the same? All players have less than good days. Your argurment has no merit. So, Tazawa should be sent to single A Lowell tomorrow in a rusty truck???
Just like your incessant "bring up this guy", "bring up that guy" mantra...you can only bring up so many guys.
I'd bet a Benjamin that if Betts' liner had gone for a single to bring in two runs, you wouldn't have had much to say.
Important game? I think not...it's just a game, no more, no less. They have more than enough time to pull this thing out of the fire. It's up to the t-e-a-m to make it happen, Farrell isn't trying to make them lose.
BTW, who would you replace Farrell with? And what guarantee do you have that that person would exceed what Farrell has done?
STOP obsessing over this stuff...in the scheme of life it means NADA
True the players are responsible for their actions BUT Tarawa has been horrible for almost the whole season so why would you bring him into that situation. Makes no sense to me. All the relievers were available so why go with someone who has not helped you in similar situations prior to tonight.
I think you're becoming a bit of a hypocrite with the Farrell thing.
He took Porcello out after the Longoria homer to tie the game...then comes Ross Jr, Ziegler, Kimbrell and Hembree, all brought in by Farrell. It was Hembree's error at 1st base that cost the game...nothing to do with Farrell...and NO, I'm not a Farrell fan. Where were the Red Sox clutch hitters???
Odd how you say nothing when they win, but are the Farrell analyst when they lose.
STOP WATCHING if it obviously upsets you so much. Once again...it's only baseball
It didn't upset me at all but was a mistake on Farrell's part is all I am saying. Maybe the results would have been the same with the options that he had but a fresh arm should have been tried like most managers would have done. I know he gives in to what a player wants other than what is best for the team.
A team like the Red Sox, who have all the pieces, but are not cohesive enough to go for the kill when it's presented to them on a silver platter, do not deserve post season play.
One need only look at the stats of the Rays and at this stage of the season. To lose 2, 1-run games within your division to a team like this is simply pathetic. One run games and the never ending LOB stat will kill you every time.
Top of the 9th. Ramirez struck out swinging. Bradley JR struck out looking. Ortiz struck out looking.
I'm sure somewhere in there Farrell made a mistake.
Starting in early September, the schedule does not favor the Red Sox...it's loaded with Orioles, Yankees and Toronto...not to mention the Royals. The season ends with Toronto.
Red Sox don't have the spark needed to plow through this field...I predict they will slowly, but steadily implode and the Yankees may well challenge them for a higher position in the AL East Division. IMO, a lot, and I do mean a LOT of breaks have to fall the Red Sox way to even score the Wild Card slot...even that will only give them a one game shot at moving on...not likely this is gonna happen.
Farrell will be back next year...the Red Sox need a Buck Showalter, Earl Weaver, or Whitey Herzog type manager to kick some a$$ and stop with the coddling of the players. He puts way too much sugar on situations that were clearly either doofus plays or inept pitching, oftentimes addressing players by all their cutesy little nicknames....Bucky, Pedey, Bogey, etc, etc. You need only read ESPN Boston blogs to read his comments...far too many to bother with putting here.
AGAIN, it's the players who play, that's why they're called "players". Maybe if more were handled with a bit of a firmer hand, or a visit to Salem, Portland, or Lowell would wake up some heads.
Watch the Cubs, it could be their year, Madden has performed the miracle needed to give the hapless Windy City faithful a lot to hope for. I, for one, hope they go all the way. Lackey and Lester have found heaven.
twelve LOB and Betts picked off...p-a-t-h-e-t-i-c.
Too much hoopla over Olympic medals...who GAS over those damn medals?? Hey everybody, look at me, look at me, I won medals in the Olympics...HELLO, you're in Fenway Park, not Rio...stop with the nonsense unrelated to the task at hand. Next they'll have the Drop Kick Murphy's out there singing between innings...while the team sinks into oblivion.
We are witnessing the implosion of the 2016 Red Sox. Losing games at this stage of the season are crucial...that's why I posted some time ago about the team's opportunity to gain some ground by crushing the Rays. But, noooooooooo, these boneheads choke and spit up 2, 1-run losses to a looser team.
They're not playing like champions and deserve to be left out when the big party begins.
OH, get this...ESPN Boston reports that the rehab of El Sapo Gordo is moving on quite well. The Toad was allowed to play a bit of practice at 3rd base when the team was recently in Tampa. El Sapo Gordo commented on how great it was to be with his teammates again and that he was doing so much better since shoulder surgery. Boy Toado, with the kinda coin you're ripping the team for I'd be loving life too...what a joke...Dombrowski will eject him at the first opportunity, if not sooner...maybe a rehab in Single A, where you gotta ride the bus and stay in Mollies Motor Court will wake this bozo up. Insane money for playing only 3 games this year.
Another pathetic one run loss to the Rays...one of the worst teams, if not THEE worst team in baseball.
Doesn't Farrell realize how deadly Longoria is and has been? Perhaps a walk might have been in order...this was a precious game not to lose.
Ok, with a paltry 30 games left and a hard to hoe schedule, oh ye of Red Sox Nation...cue up Paul Simon with "Slip Slidin' Away"...or Dandy Don with Turn out the lights, the party's ovah.
Crushing defeats to the Rays. Take a look at what September brings!!
Had it not been for the GS by HR, most likely with a 4-1 deficit in the 5th, the Red Sox would surely have gone down in the game.
Bringing up Moncada with only 29 games to go will perhaps spark the crowd, but one man can't solve this year's problems, although he'll shore up 3rd base, with Shaw imploding.
Too little too late. The September schedule does not favor this team. Only a "2004-like" cowboy up performance will save the season, and methinks it all a bridge too far.
The bullpen is cooked and the starters can't go all nine innings every day so I agree that they are done. Moncada is a great addition and is now the 3rd baseman of the future but the bullpen needs to be completely overhauled over the winter.
Your rationale is skewed by the premise "the sox are going to make a valiant effort in their quest for another world series"
IOW, you are saying they are not currently even trying to win...I totally disagree with that logic. They are not going to just mail it in. You go on (once again) to make the assumption that Moncada and Kelly will in essence "do well". What in the world will Moncada do at 3rd base that would allow his performance to be of such value as to be the key to this season...and how many shots will Kelly get to come in and save games.?
Two changes, one an addition will not save this season. All the pieces are already in place, they are simply not playing at the high level required to enhance their chances to excel in the AL East, let alone move forward. The 3, 1-run losses to the Rays was a pivotal moment IMO, these were what I call "money games" and they let them slip through their fingers.
There are only 29 games left, they're currently facing Oakland, in Oakland, then the Padres in San Diego...then it's game on with a brutal finish to September, loaded with Orioles, Blue Jays, Yankees and Rays.
Moncada, the highly touted Cuban-born prospect who received a record $31.5 million signing bonus when he inked a deal with Boston last year, made his major league debut and drew a five-pitch walk in the eighth after being called up from Double-A Portland before the game. Moncada struck out swinging in the ninth. "In a three-inning look you see some exciting skills," Farrell said. "It was a glimpse but he had a chance to show off two of the tools."
I find it odd how you barely mention Shaw's performance at 3rd base. Ah, that would be TWO DOUBLES, A HOME RUN, AND 5 RBIs. Looks to me like he ran circles around Moncada.
And Farrell...what exactly were those "exciting skills"?? And what was that "chance to show off two of the tools"??? Moron!
If you're gonna post Pit, at least tell the whole story. Looks like you're cherry picking.
Seven strikeouts for seven at bats. He is useless and should be sent back to wherever he came from.
Once again, the board prognosticator comes up short with his touting of "bring up this one, bring up that one". Who you gonna bring up now? Oh yeah...the great oracle Farrell says Moncada will sit a game to "regroup". What a joke.
The buzz saw and final coup de gras awaits the hapless Red Sox team. So much talent, so little clutch performance. Losing one run games to bozo teams like the Rays and Padres speaks volumes of this 2016 team.
Don't believe me? Take a gander at the schedule. Too few games left to make up for the ineptitude and Single A-like performance.
Moncada is going to get better only if he continues to face MLB pitching. Ideally, he could have some ABs in lower-leverage situations, but at this time of year for this team, there are none of those. Remember how awful JBJ was...
I only pointed out your inscessant bring up this guy or that guy, which haven't turned out so great. You were drooling over Swihart, last I recall, he didn't play so well. What exactly has Benintendi done or anyone else you've touted so highly? You were all but jumping for joy when they brought up Moncada with his sterling SEVEN strikeouts in a row. And FWIW, I only mentioned Moncada, nothing about Shaw...but typical, try to move the subject. Take a gander at the scorecard once in a while and you'll see what I see...and NO, I don't suggest player moves like you do every other post, I only comment and respond to player performance. Boy, how you like to hang your hat on rookies...foolish thinking.
Get a clue, your whole life revolves around the Red Sox and your constant bringing up new players.
Don't bother to respond to any more of my posts, now that you've made it personal with your uber-childish "perfect" crap.
I've always liked Shaw at 3rd base...they all have slumps, hopefully he's pulled out of his. The addition of Moncada to play 3rd will take a lot more playing time to get his game on track. I seriously doubt Fatto has a shot next year at 3rd and wouldn't be surprised if he gets an off-season trade by the GM.
I've been pretty critical of the team in general, but last night (even though it was the Padres), they played well. Moving into first place and seeing their team name on top at Fenway may well be the catalyst to keep them motivated and bring their A-game. A very tough road ahead, but they have the pieces to win, we'll see if they do it. I still think they've let too many games slip away that they should rather easily have won. If memory serves, in the last week or so, they've lost 4, 1-run games to lesser skilled teams that are precious at this stage of the season.
Here come the Yankees, Orioles and Jays. I'd be glad to be wrong.
A quick read of Farrell today indicates he's backpedalling on Moncada...he who was to be the big savior at 3rd base and who has obviously imploded. Trying ever so delicately to discuss this disappointing performance with such gentleness as though he had white gloves on holding the Hope Diamond. Hey Farrell...the kid ain't ready yet, send him back to Portland till he can handle things like the fast ball and change up.
Farrell continues with his infamous Farrellisms and cutesy little comments that only he can come up with...bizarre as they may be.
Oddly, the article ends with hope that Benintendi (who returns in 3 weeks) may well impact the remainder of the season. HUH? There's only 23 games left, Benintendi will have NADA impact on the 2016 season, nor will any of the others that were called up too early, or got injured and therefore are not playing.
The Red Sox players will have to play exceptional baseball to salvage a struggling season. Despite the never-ending bringing up of players and shuffling pieces on the chess board, I think they just didn't play up to their potential and lost too many key games, which robbed them of a cushion they so desperately could use now. The losses to the Rays and Padres were monumental, maybe not so much in May or June, but not this late in the game.
The road ahead is very, very steep...I for one don't think they can clear this hurdle.
The Red Sox have had 2, 5 game win streaks, and 1, 6 game streak.
The Red Sox have 6 more games (including tonight) with Toronto, 7 games with Baltimore, 7 with the Yankees and 3 with Tampa. The schedule does not favor the Red Sox, and wishing for a streak is I think a bridge too far for this team.
In order to go into post season, I think it will take somewhere in the mid to upper teen wins going forward with games left to play.
Not doom and gloom, just looking at reality. Too many key wins have slipped through the fingers of this team recently, which could have provided a bit of a cushion given who they are facing the rest of the way.
The AL east teams are all playing a lot of games against each other from here till the end so I don't see the Sox schedule as any worse really than Baltimore or Toronto. I really don't see the Yankees as a real contender.
I don't see why they can't win the series against the jays and o's. They have a great offense and price and porcello have been pitching well. I'm upbeat going into the weekend.

his second straight excellent outing. Is he thinking about the option year?
Impressive run.

The latest is sending Porcello out for the 8th inning when he had well over 100 pitches in already.

I'm sure somewhere in there Farrell made a mistake.
The fat lady is warming up.
He is just not the right manager for this team period, just not able to handle the players.
I agree they are going nowhere this year, the fat lady has been singing already.
Get ready for next year fat boy says he will be a different player for 2017!
Farrell ain't the problem...lack of professional play between the lines and too much hooplah over Ortiz's retirement is the problem.
I am not alone in my feelings about Farrell and I have no idea who would be in line to replace him.
He has been making glaring mistakes all year long and he sure does not have control of the club.
The Orioles and Jays are doing no better than the sox so maybe they can get through the season somehow.
Red Sox don't have the spark needed to plow through this field...I predict they will slowly, but steadily implode and the Yankees may well challenge them for a higher position in the AL East Division. I am not as good with words as you are but those are my exact feelings about what should be done.
Madden is thereupon the cubs are going to win the world series and until the sox get a manager like him they will go nowhere.
I got the MLB package for free this year and if Farrell is still there I will not get it next year.
Nicknames have no place in competitive sports by their manager.
It is last names only.

AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN !!!
Sometimes a replacing a couple of players can make a big difference.
Replace Tarawa with Kelly?
Replace Hill and Shaw with Moncada?
Worth a try because what they are replacing is not doing the job.
Moncada looked good at 3rd, walked in the 8th, scored on Shaw's double. He is fast.
Kelly looked great in the eighth.
MONCADA'S DEBUT
Moncada, the highly touted Cuban-born prospect who received a record $31.5 million signing bonus when he inked a deal with Boston last year, made his major league debut and drew a five-pitch walk in the eighth after being called up from Double-A Portland before the game. IRRATIONAL EXUBERANCE !!
I like what Shaw did and he will make a decent 1st baseman next year once he figures out what pitchers are doing to him.
Was glad to see what Moncada did even though he ran through a stop sign and he made a good play on the field .
He was very nervous in his first show in the majors and we need to cut him a little slack.
Shaw was fiesting off some pretty weak pitching as were the rest of the sox last night but his fielding has been erratic this year.
Farrell, I agree , is a moron.
As far as irrational exuberance goes, I am just happy to see them win once in a while at this point.
Interesting show coming up this weekend.
Sox need to take 2 out of 3 for sure to be relevant.
Bucky has come through in his last few starts.
Seven strikeouts for seven at bats. He is useless and should be sent back to wherever he came from.

Benintendi and Swihart are hurt but I was right about them.
Kelly looks great in relief.
I do not claim to be perfect!

I do think they have a rough road ahead off them but we shall see what happens by the end of the month.

I am a Red Sox and Patriots fan and do not deny it.
I wish they had a perfect team as do all other fans.
Can we not talk about who we think might or might not help the club.
As far as personal attacks go, every time I say something you always seem to attack me.
