Sometimes they are very predictable in a totally PC way.

I have a few hundred movies on DVD, I have not seen a single new movie this year.

OK, is Lady Gaga that great of a singer??

I was most impressed with her Sound of Music tribute.....WOW!

    WOW!

Lady Ga-Ga can sing! She just got a new fan!

If they made a movie about coin collecting, then they'd really have something.

My wife insisted that I sit next to her while she was watching the Academy Awards. I read this week's Barron's Magazine, didn't look up at the television once, and left the room when I was done. I think it is very difficult to find a room filled with people so full of themselves as the academy awards. Mind you, I know a number of people who have made / are making a good living in the motion picture industry; but this is a different kettle of fish. You couldn't pay me enough to attend this event.

I got a little tired of the "causes".

I thought Lady Gaga and Oprah were big!

    I'd rather spend time with Goldbully's T$.

A televised event where people in the business award other people in the business recognition. Those were company affairs when I was in business...not national TV..... I never watch them...silly. Cheers, RickO

Not difficult at all -- watch the next televised draft for either the NFL or NBA.

At least the majority of persons in the film industry are highly educated, well-read, and deeply clever. I will admit Neil Patrick-Harris was an annoying host, but I enjoy seeing the winners in categories that are not the "faces" -- the sound editing, costume design, directors, etc.

On an aside, I always find it interesting when people complain about how much money "movie stars" make -- maybe $2 million for a film for a well-paid big-name cast member. A movie takes weeks/months to shoot. Yet, these same people don't blink an eye at the exorbitant amounts of money that sports stars make in a single game. Anyway, rant over. To each his/her own.

I took the night off from my usual 7 day work routine and actually had the awards on. It was mildly entertaining , a little more
so than looking at coins in slabs or going bowling.

I regret missing the Super Bowl this year. I hear there were a lot of clever Hollywood Short Moviettes that were good.

Indeed! I always thought of her as a good but gimicky pop singer. She has a great voice!

I call them the Politically Correct Awards. I don't watch them at all.

Edited to make the post numismatic.

Instead of watching the Academy Awards I took out my DVD of 1990's "Ghost" and watched it. Prominently featured in the film are an 1898 Indian Cent and a 1989 Lincoln Cent. Ditto.

Sad to say, the only part I think is interesting is the segment when they show the Stars that passed on.image

Not difficult at all -- watch the next televised draft for either the NFL or NBA. The NBA and NFL drafts don't pre-empt most everything else on television when they take place and don't get in your face about the event. They are far easier to ignore.

At least the majority of persons in the film industry are highly educated, well-read, and deeply clever. Highly educated? Hardly. If you listen to their rants, the answer is clearly 'no.'. Many of the best actors don't have college degrees, for openers. Deeply clever? A few of them may qualify. Most of these folks think they are far more intelligent than they actually are.

I don't complain about any of this. These days professional athletes are just entertainers of another sort.Anyway, rant over. To each his/her own. >>

    Two more thoughts:
First, Joan Rivers was ignored during the above segment.

I agree that a majority of the population would subscribe to both comments.

Apparently the ratings for this year's Academy Awards broadcast were down 16% from the previous year.

Also, Joan Rivers wasn't an actress so she wouldn't have been important to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. I don't know if she was involved in the "sciences" part ... perhaps she was?
