Love The 35 d @washingtonrainbows and I also heard from Brett in case anyone was wondering about Manofcoins, he was banned for violating our terms of service. Admittedly, deleting his posts was a one-time unintentional error on our part. So I have no idea of what he Violated but it was a bummer that all his posts were deleted too. Always hate to see any of our brothers who have built Great sets Leave...
@washingtonrainbows Most of the varieties were cherry picked raw or in holders, don't know if you remember a member named Dale(Panther) but he was my mentor and got me totally hooked into the Varieties. I bought every book I could find including the 3 books by Mr. Wiles which have really helped in my quest.
If you go look at the Number 1 set Dr. Phillips you will see I traded him more than a few of my Top Pop Varieties since I knew a long time ago I was never going to get into the number 1 spot. This has allowed me to get other coins that I could never afford or find. 80 percent complete and each year it gets more Fun.
I haven't been very active lately but I did just pick up this 1943 MS66+ for my set.
Although I didn't capture it very well, please believe me that the luster is blazing and the pastels are beautiful.
"If I say something in the woods and my wife isn't there to hear it.....am I still wrong?"
Here is the latest addition to my registry set. I am now down to 12 to complete my set. Only the 36-D is the last key, the other 11 coins are readily available but I am looking for nice eye appeal to complete my set.
I think this coin meets my standard for eye appeal.
Sparky64 Love the 1943 and bet it does just pop and I like the 66+ coins as some just look better than the 67's.
Jay, you got lucky on the 1955 as I was watching that coin but since I blew 600 on this one Tuesday 6:45 in the morning, I figured I would hold out on bidding. I think you stole that coin for the price. I also got a great deal on this 1934 DDO 101 my second MS 62 coin.
I really like your coin. That is a coin on my list but I don't want to pay $1k for the coin. But for $600 I would pay that. That is a nice MS-62. Most 62's have no luster but yours look great for the grade.
Down to 31 coins left. Picked up both of these coins from the Brian Due Collection. Love the toning on both coins and was wondering if I would find a 1955 that I liked as Much as the one Jay (@Norcaljack) Bought. I did...…. If I ever upgrade the 1934 DDO I will let you know Jay...…. The 54 is a MS 67 and the 55 is a 66+
As soon as I saw your coin I knew it came from the Brian Due Collection. I have bought two coins from him and like yours they come with the Pedigree which I always think is cool. Nice coin and I screwed up when he listed his 1932 for sale I thought the coin was stolen and posted a note in his registry set to see if it was really for sale. (did not know he was the seller too on ebay)
By the time he saw my message someone hit the buy it now for 650. I saved the certificate number and will bet that it upgrades to a 66+. It was really a nice looking 1932. So now I refresh his page daily. He really did have some nice coins in his set.
Another Nice Pickup for your set and I love the toning on that coin. If you click on the true view it opens up to a bigger version. I notice the die polish lines on the Obverse and have seen that on a few other years. Including the 48 s/s I am searching for. I just find those lines interesting. There on the 43 s Goiter too. Just picked this one up on Thursday and love the description.
Enjoy Tom
Frosty and lustrous, the brilliant gem surfaces are tempered with varied golden toning highlights. First Coin Purchased in a Kagin's Auction. 27 to Go.
Mark @sparky64 Congrats on your newest purchases and I really enjoy seeing someone else who is on a buying spree.
Ken @cointime That is truly a beautiful 1943 and deserved the upgrade. Did you send all 9 in for regrade or reconsideration?
I picked up this 1964 802 ddr a week ago and it actually moved me into 5th place in the current finest sets.
Enjoy Tom
I really wanted to go after the 1964 sms quarter at heritage but looking at this coin being graded a SP 66 just blows my mind. After all these years collecting one series I have ms 64 coins that look better. Thoughts from everyone else on this coin? I know there rare and this is the first one to come up in many years. I just see to many hits...… I also wonder why this coin is included in the Variety set.
@1tommy I sent in all 9 for economy regrade so I could get 3 of them true view'd (one of them being a roosie 64-d p67fb I won at GC last year). This is the 1st silver Qtr I made in p67 (i'd have been tickled if this was a '64-p in 7). I don't have a big coin budget and trying to make the coins for my sets are so much more fun then buying them already made). I was really beginning to think I was never going to make a MS67 in silver and my eyes were missing something the grader was seeing. I had hopes these 2 MS66 had a chance Also I agree with you on the SMS at Heritage - it's not for me. I was hoping for a plus on either one of these
Ken. @cointime The 1960 Type B is one Nice coin and surprised it did not get a plus. Looking back the past 7 years I have never made a ms 67 coin from any of my raw purchases. I do have many coins that I will send back in one day.
Mark @sparky64 I am also happy that you and Ken both agree on the sms coin. Should be interesting auction.
There is a 67 that just popped up at GC in a few weeks and that coin looks really nice but I still think spending that kind of money on a coin that I do not think is a Variety may not be the brightest thing I have done. It's included in my set but that might be one hole that does not ever get filled. Oh and the 1935 DDO as no one has ever found even one of them.

At first, this went completely over my head.
I am not well versed on varieties.
I see it is listed and has prices in the CPG but I see NONE have been graded and thus not in any sets.
I feel kind of silly not realizing this before.
So...why is it required and what's the story?

I like your 1951-S quite a bit and it has a look consistent with many MS67 coins. The 1951 San Francisco cardboards and papers had the ability to impart strong toning onto their coins and, combined with the fact that the 1951-S WQ typically had well above average luster, means that these can take on a really vibrant look.

I've been looking for a 1936-P that had some character and I just received this one today.
1936-P appears to be a common date but I struggled to find one I liked.
Also for being relatively common, they seem to be a shade pricey compared to other so called common dates.
I paid up a little for it and it isn't the "perfect looker" but I'm happy to have it in my collection.

I hadn't noticed that my '36 was from the same seller until after I purchased it and re-looked at your pair above, lol.
Here's another one I just received today. (Not the same seller this time.)
Not everyone's cup of tea with the thick obv rim toning but I like how it frames the portrait.
Same with the rev.
